I don't like the South American mentality then I guess. I share much more values of European (especially Balkan) and Asian people I feel.
Either of them would have given Brazil more of a fight. I mentioned Uruguay specifically because they only conceded one open goal in the tournament. Brazil would still have won in the end, but you would get the feeling that Uruguay, with luck on their side, could make the last 45 minutes more interesting for a neutral. Ghana would've been fun too, if they performed like they did in the first two group stage games.
Each game has its own dynamics and some teams match up better against say Brazil than S. Korea does. That doesn't mean they are better than S. Korea in other games against other opponents where different dynamics apply. While Brazil's first half demolition of S. Korea in part reflected the tendency of S. Korean sides to struggle against teams with very good dribblers and technical players, a lot of it was also coincidental. A soft penalty demoralized the Korean team and took the game outside their reach inside the first 10 minutes; the Brazilians were uncharacteristically ruthless in the 1st half (and disinterested and wasteful in the 2nd); while S. Korea created more chances against Brazil than all 3 of Brazil's group stage opponents combined.
What it does say about Korea's defense is not that its full-backs are trash. It means that unlike what Serbia and Switzerland did, Korea went against Brazil all-out; it attempted to play Brazil head on rather than establishing a steady defensive line on the back. This was one of the major reasons Brazil took a while to score in its first two matches; the Serbians and the Swiss did not opt for a gameplan which produced the spaces afforded to Brazil by Korea. This is no knock on Korea; Korea defeated Portugal (Brazil has NEVER defeated Portugal in World Cup play). Basically, Korea adopted the wrong approach against Brazil.
I'll actually admit I think this score is a reasonable prediction, although of course it can go the other way. As much as I "rivalize" with Argentina and never want them to succeed, you did almost come across a bit dismissive of them. Anything can happen during 90 minutes. On Friday, we will all know.
You realize that South America is a large continent with much diversity, right? Or do you think there are no differences in "mentality" and thus culture, between Germany and Slovakia or Spain and Sweden or Portugal and Austria? Asia? Do you mean the Japanese and the Burmese have the same "mentality?" Or the Mongolians and the Taiwanese? Not to be hostile or sarcastic, but these sweeping generalizations about entire continents' worth of peoples, cultures, and nations from people from other continents is more than a bit annoying. There are marked differences in history and cultural development between western and eastern Europe due to factors that far precede this sport. Do not presume that South Americans are all the same because they are not, in the same way not all Europeans are the same and not all Asians are the same.
It is just a silly game in which you kick a ball around and hope it goes into a net. People take it and themselves too seriously. Dancing is a part of South American cultures for many types of occasions and celebrations. If people get uptight when a team expresses their joy on the biggest stage in the world during a game then screw them. If opposing players and coaches and fans get offended because their team is losing then their team should have stopped them from scoring.
And if a random Irishman says he does not like it, he is entitled to his opinion but I have the right to say I don't care and Brazil probably does not care what he thinks.
A lot of Brazilians are talking like they won the world cup already, and they gotta be real careful with that because I've seen this come back and bite teams in the ass
Not the least because that Irishman's own career includes some stuff far more deleterious and detrimental to sportsmanship than a dance Some people look at others and are quick to condemn but think theirs are lives bereft of anything deserving criticism.
As long as France, England, Spain and the Netherlands are in the tournament nothing is certain for Brazil. I can confidently say that France's attack would outshine Brazil's attack in a match up. Brazil's attack is pretty much overrated. Brazil's strength is the way how they defend as a team. Otherwise I see nothing champions worthy in that side.
Lol Louis van Gaal doesn’t have good words to say about Brazil and Argentina. I hope this doesn’t bite us back.
i get it if it makes any difference, south americans do this to each other too. The chileans to the colombians, or amongst their own people too (Uruguayans and Uruguayans etc.) So its not particularly exclusive to any set group of people or targeted to anyone in particular
It is not arrogance, silly; It is the way we express ourself. Disrespectful, IMO, were if we kept going full steam and score 8/9 goals... I don't have problem with Germany scoring 7 on us. It was Brazil playing in Brazil. But I see no reason for Spain to score 7 on mighty Costa Rica; But this is how Spain plays so I get they don't share my views. Brazilian arrogance is thinking we could field more than one competitive team - we don't have as many world class player as we like to think (but again every fan think their country have great players). We have a good team that might take us to the final (to be seen) but we are one of a hand full of in form teams; and we definitely do not have enough world class players to form more than one WC contender team.
I see over-confidence in the players, forum comments, youtube comments, tiktok comments, twitter comments......etc.....etc. Not everyone of course, but a fair amount
Is Netherlands a UEFA 1st tier team? Just asking... If ARG beat them will you change your mind? Don't worry, if Brazil is as good as we rate them they will eventually play against UEFA 1st tier team.
Kumbaya my Lord Kumbaya It's getting hot in here Ima take off all my clothes (I am getting so hot ima take my clothes off)
I don't think you saw it in the players. They are confident but you need some confidence to win. A lot of it is playful banter rather than over confidence and underestimating rivals. As for fans, you're always going to find a mix of over confident, realistic, pessimistic fans. It's just that you're looking for them. I mean FFS ... you're checking out twitter and YT comments. Our forum here has been pretty realistic. If you want some overconfidence and underestimating opponents you should check the Argie forum. Not everyone ... but definitely some posters.
What do you mean by 'of course'; Netherland under Van Gall failed to even qualify for the 2002 WC and only won a penalty shoutout against Costa Rica to reach the semi where they lost to ARG in 2014 (they did beat a shell shocked Brazil to win Bronze). Not sure how you judge UEFA's tier system; doesn't seem to be based on EURO games results.
