I think it's a few things: 1) Despite his shortcomings, there isn't someone who can replace him who's better. 2) I was watching some Korean commentary and someone said due to SHM not being 100%, more gets put on KJS on that left side. I can buy that. 3) KMJ not being 100% also limits KJS's effectiveness on defense. KJS is going to have his defense mistakes which KMJ sometimes erases but with him not there, KJS's mistakes are magnified (i.e. 5' goal vs Portugal when he let his guy get by him)
I watched the youtube video that showed Japan's controversial 2nd goal. The ball might have been in. The ball was travelling mostly latitudinally. It is still too close to call but the camera refresh rate may not be a factor in this case. Ironically the youtuber uploaded this to show that the ball was out but I saw something different. The frame that is the closest to the moment of contact is a blur so the ball still might have been out but I withdraw my earlier conviction that it was out. P.S. I will post this just here. I hate to post this in the German forum because all those who upvoted me will be mighty disappointed.
It's just that our players aren't good enough individually to beat 1v1.. KJS would be playing for big teams if he could. But still, he's making too many mistakes in every match. And I seriously hate seeing him stop moving when he fails to tackle as if he's frozen. Remember how we lost in the final in the Asian Cup? He did the same thing again and again in this WC. GET THE FK UP AND FOLLOW THE BALL.
Tbh too much is expected from fullbacks in Bento’s system. They basically get all the action on both the defensive and offensive end - it’s inevitable that they have bad moments. I just wish KJS had better crossing but at least he had that nice assist to CGS Maybe we need to look into converting Lee Dongjun into fullback. From what I’ve seen he’s blazingly fast and sturdy enough
Japan/Croatia match is very competitive, a slight edge to Japan. I hope they pull through. I want us to play them at QF (also I have a substantial bet on them making to QF).
Even though Japan doesn't have a target man up top, their accurate crossing has been creating a lot of danger for the Croatian defense.
You must have large balls to do the penalty kicks in such a huge tournament.. I just can't even think about putting myself in these players' shoes.
Yeah this is a rivalry. I wouldn't be able to stomach a Japan win and I don't fault any Japanese fans for cheering for Brazil to demolish us (which they did). Glory to Croatia.
Also, I was surprised how nervous Yoshida was given his experience. He was glancing constantly at the area in which he'd hit it and the Croatian GK read him like a 10 cent newspaper. Then again, I've only taken one penalty during my college years and I was nervous af. Ended up just shooting with all my might and somehow it ended up in the back of the net. The pressure must be unreal on these guys.
His contract is done since we hit the exit today, and I highly doubt he'll accept a contract extension considering he’s been looking to revitalize his coaching career and land a club team job back in Europe.
I would rather have Bento on than for us to find a third-rate K-League manager. I heard Hiddink wanted to return.
