The FA being shown to cover up charges to help a World Cup would destroy them. They already had the chairman of the Culture and Sport committee in parliament saying how serious it was. If it emerged they covered it up further it would have been a massive scandal that I don’t think anyone involved with could have survived.

Well I think they said Toney was not in due to "footballing" reasons only. Waiting and covering up can be different.

I mean he did play that last round in the PL, he should not have is this was very serious.

There is a difference between not suspending from all football and still calling up. The mI unite politicians effectively said he shouldn’t be called up the FA knew they couldn’t do it without it being the major story.

Let's be honest, England is disliked abroad because of the right-wing rags like the scum, the hate-mail and sexpress. People think that we're ALL like that... complete tossers who are basically nazis and racists.

If they actually READ the bloody things they'd realise the tabloids are JUST as likely to give the players and the team a kicking and, if anything, they DESPISE the team and supporters like us. They're desperate to find any little flaw in a player so they can rip them to shreds.

I seriously doubt the average foreigner knows or cares about what is printed in the English tabloid press. We're disliked because we've exported colonialism and hooliganism, and because English is the lingua franca of the world, so people have actually interacted with us and found us to be arrogant, ignorant and obnoxious, especially when it comes to football.

I Remember at the time they said the injury was mild at first but it sounds like they knew straight away he would be out for weeks.

Well, that too but, since the rise of the internet it's only got worse.

It’s like I predicted after the first couple of games .. the refs are letting too much go .
The cynical players know they can whack a few even injure them ( Neymar now Jesus ) without even getting a warning !!

Two of the world’s best forwards are now effectively out of the WC .

Also Messi and Mitrovic , Foden , Kane plus tigers are all carrying ankle / foot injuries.

The majority of knee injures are normally non contact anyway.

The current crop are all ankle injuries from over zealous tackles ( unpunished assaults)

The English national team is THE most hated national team on the planet.......... and it's not even close! People are 'taught' to hate England with a passion and particularly over the last few years where 'the country of England' itself has been particularly attacked (because of Brexit perhaps? I don't know), most of it is stereotypical bollox (the whole arrogance cr*p we get) people will come out with that kind of sh*t despite never even actually meeting an Englishman! Trust me NO 'Johnny Foreigner' will want an English victory against ANY of the other nations in this World Cup (or any other), I sometimes wonder if we truly do understand the hatred we evoke in other nations when it comes to football and pretty much everything else really!
:-D, not that we really care lol.

I am sure Brazilians would prefer England to beat Argentina in any match up.

To be honest, I’m not sure it’s as bad as you think. I mean I’m an Englishman living in Sweden and I’ve met plenty of Swedes that want us to win due to their love of the the Premier League and especially those from Kosovo who absolutely want us to win if it’s not Kosovo from the guys I’ve met and work with. I don’t think think the hate is quite that bad other than ex colonial Countries. In my 15 years of living abroad I’ve never met anyone that cheers for the opposition due to our arrogance etc and they’re not that shallow to think we all follow pundits that big us up. I’m not disagreeing with your general statement as I’m sure we’re probably hated the most but we do have supporters but I think so social media blows up this perception.

Isn't the truth of the matter that most football supporters are more concerned with their OWN team and only ever consider other teams based on their experience of individual players and teams?

I think the so-called 'Golden generation' didn't win us any friends but this bunch of lads, (many of whom have familial backgrounds from ex-colonial countries), are probably better regarded, simply because of who they are and what they represent. They're also blended into a mix which is more attractive because it represents a rejection of what some people think we were like... even though we weren't.

They also come across as more 'normal' which people like, both here AND abroad.

Surprised Sterling is dropped, but think you can't ignore the form of the others tbh. Hope we can put in a good performance today, it won't be an easy game at all.

Also here's to Poland upsetting France

The Sun also say Sterling might start instead of Saka.
