You know that I wasn’t being negative about your football rivalry with South Korea? Nothing more than respect for Iran on my side, you know that.
My baby was born on the same day as this historical moment. I was at the hospital wearing my KNT shirt, watching the game on my phone, sitting in a bed while holding my newborn in my arms. Trying so hard not to wake the little one up. I'm so proud. This was the best day of my life!
아마도, 포르투갈이 필연적으로 경기를 지면, 호날두에게 초콜릿 상자를 위로 선물로 보내야 해요? ᄏᄏᄏᄏ (One thing I'm confused by, and have to constantly look up when writing in Korean, is spelling of foreign names. In South Korean standard language, countries usually have internationalized versions of names based on English, but person names are transcribed based on mother tongue spelling. I honestly thought Ronaldo was 로날도, not 호날두. In North Korean, I know countries have spellings based on their mother tongue names. But South Korean has different rules for different things.)
Nah, it's true. It was Cho Gue Sung who told him to get off the pitch. Funny thing is he said it in Portuguese too. I read that our boys know Portuguese profanities from working with the staff and when Portugal players were cursing, they shit-talked back in Portuguese.
Does that word mean "d*ckhead"? I put it into Google Translate, and the translation was "sharp head". If it does, I totally agree. One of the worst human beings to play football at a high level.
That's the thing. How is telling players to get off the pitch faster disrespectful? That's not "mocking" or "disrespecting". He was simply telling him to leave faster to save time. Ronaldo is just being Ronaldo as usual. He is just mad for his bad performance but he cant accept it bc of his ego so he's blaming others. And there's nothing wrong with talking shit bk. It is worse to be silent when getting disrespected. I am pretty sure he already knows ppl hate him in Korea.
That's because it's very difficult to romanize Korean. There are several ways to spell English words in Hangul. There's the McCune–Reischauer (classic version) or what Korea officially adopted (국어의 로마자 표기법) version. I think there were older systems too. For example, 창문 can be spelled, 'Chang moon' or 'Jang mun' or 'Jjang moon'. As a native English speaker and somewhat fluent Korean speaker, I personally would spell, 창문 as 'Cha-ah-ng moohn' but it still sounds unsatisfactory. Actually, no system is satisfactory.
I know about the issues regarding spelling of Korean when one has to use the Latin alphabet. But here, I'm having a confusion as to how to write foreign words in Korean. For example, I'm from Croatia, and my first Korean language teacher has been learning Croatian. She says the proper Korean letter to write the sound in my last name is not ᄐ, but rather ᄄ. Meanwhile, for English names, ᄐ is used to denote a T. My last name is written with a T, and that sound is pretty typical, it's the only T in my language- there are no aspirated T's, or double T's.
That's why its really arbitray with Korean. It doesn't really matter tbh. Your Korean teacher probably meant that it was more *approximately* closer to ᄄ than ᄐ. What vowels or consonants are next to your T?
It is transcribed in the native pronunciation. So the Portuguese Ronaldo and the Brazilian Ronaldo have the same Latin spelling but in Korean it is 호날두(Honaldoo) and 호나우두(Hona-udoo) respectively.
It's the initial consonant, followed by a long-ish O. I can't give a matching Korean vowel here, because 어 is too open to be a Croatian O, while 오 sometimes sounds like a U sound (lips get closed up a lot). So, British English O in "Tory" is probably the best fit.
Hahaha. I'm hoping a Croatian manager w/ staff takes over Korea one day, just so Korean players could learn from the kings of swearing- us. Portuguese swearwords are spicy, but Croatian swearwords are like nukes.
Expanding your point about native swearwords, Korean swearwords sound a LOT more sinister than English swearwords.
Portuguese reaction to the game They took it rather well probably because their 1st place was almost secure and Bento is Portuguese.. There were even some girls cheering for Korea. So let's defeat 2 Portuguese speaking countries back to back.
Yes, my thoughts exactly, hence why I stated that our win vs Portugal was possibly the best outcome for him. Had no idea CQ was hated in Portugal, ironically the Korean public don't view him all that well either, primarily because he was the manager for Iran and given the fact that from 2012 - 2017, we have not beaten them in four of our meetings at the 2014 and 2018 Fifa WCQs(0W 1D 2L). However, we have not lost to Iran once under Bento in three of our meetings (1W 2D 0L) and we sort of got our payback vs CQ when he was in charge of Colombia as well.
Well Queiroz is hated after his spell for Portugal and because he became a bitter man when he was Iran coach he really was provoking us in Russia when we were on the same group with Iran. But serious people recognize the importance he had developing our Youth Football at Federation level in the 80's and 90's, but that time is over. I do have a sense there is or was some sort of Asian Football rivalry between Iran and South Korea reading some posts by @Iranian Monitor . By the way, how is the Football rivalry between South Korea and Japan? Healthy, only on Football terms or there's more historical issues who add fuel to that?
To be quite frank, whether it's football, baseball, volleyball etc. 한일전 or Korea vs Japan match will always remain a rivalry match that's more than just your typical rivalry or sports in general. Some may say that they view it otherwise, but the history between the two countries is something that can't be erased for the people of Korea, if that makes any sense to you.
"By the way, how is the Football rivalry between South Korea and Japan? Healthy, only on Football terms or there's more historical issues who add fuel to that?" Think of the rivalries in all sports between Ireland vs England, Pakistan vs India, Germany vs Isarel, Iran vs Arab nations etc. Korea vs Japan trumps all of them imo
