Exactly. I wouldn’t mind him in that role and as “defensive coordinator” where he is normally good at structuring a sound defensive although we didn’t see that today.

He’s just so poor offensively and making the right decisions with roster selection that I really hope that we find someone who has the acumen to take us to the next level. I’m afraid that’s going to be our ceiling under Gregg.

It's in the top-3. You need 'super creativity' somewhere. You can't have cyborgs everywhere.

I think Gregg deserves a ton of credit. I would welcome a new coach for 2026.

I think Gregg should have done more before the second goal to refocus the team to a bunker mentality for the last 30 seconds. The chances of the US scoring when the Dutch have a throw in deep in 30 seconds is zero, but giving up a goal could happen and would be an absolute disaster.

And it did and was. Dest missed it, but Gregg has to help his team mange there.

For what it's worth, I think 2010 Donovan > 2022 Pulisic. Pulisic is technically better, but Donovan was a better player.

This is true. If we had a better backup 6--or been more clinical with our chances in the first three matches--we might've rested him for 45 or 90 minutes in the group stage, and wouldn't have conceded that first goal.

But that's why winning the World Cup is hard. In the end, I believe it's going to be the French or the Brazilians yet again, because they not only have quality all across their first XI, but all across their bench. And nobody else does to the extent that they do.

I'm just saying... project all you want, this cup doesn't predict his demise by 2026. Maybe that does happen, but I think it's wrong to count him out, and I've seen growth just in this past year. Time will tell and we'll see who emerges, but I would wager that he'll still be front and center in 4 years.

Chelsea sucks - I hope he goes to Newcastle and kicks their asses.

fair enough - you made my point …

with our possession and pressure style of play you have to rotate and rest to sustain that approach.

we ran out of gas today and Holland made us pay.

Got it. Then xG is weird to me. I guess it can’t factor in the defensive positioning. Because those 2 finishes were much simpler than the combo of all of ours in the first half

It will be nice when the WC is over, the trolls disappear, and we can get back to more productive discussions with realistic goals and such.

After the fist goal it was incredibly frustrating watching the Dutch sit back and dare the US to move the ball up the field. Incredibly slow decisions and execution of passes out of the back. And then not being able for the mids to turn up the field and get things moving. Contrasting with de Jong was sad.

Wright's donkey touch rounding the keeper was super painful.

    Things the US really needs:
    1. At least one ball playing CB
    2. Midfield creativity
    3. Depth
    4. A STRIKER
Playing Reyna a lot more would have helped with 2 and 3.

Overall, 2nd in the group and then playing competitively against but ultimately losing to a more talented Netherlands side was exactly our level. I'm not embarrassed by the US performance, but of course wanted more.

We had, what, 17 shots? Not all good ones, but you have to do more with those chances to be a team that deserves to advance in the WC. We had to rely on too small a player pool for our athletic approach to the game and we have no top-level finisher (and haven't had one for a while.) Weah might be the most effective scorer we have. CP too. It reminiscent of when we had to try Demps as a 1 because we just don't have "that guy." Sarge would have helped today, I think, as he is better at dropping the ball to CP, Weah or Musah, but the Dutch were pretty solid, at the end of the day. Never really looked like they couldn't answer pretty much at will.

The Pulisic chance was like 0.42 for us.

It does factor in defensive positioning (in good xG models).

Scoring goals is very very hard.

This will quickly devolve into an intra-tribal warfare, but I agree. Landon is still tops in my book.

Sorry to disrupt the Berhalter narrative, but what did the Dutch team do in the 7th minute that changed the game? We came out dominating and all of a sudden in the 7th minute our CBs couldn't find anyone to pass to. Ream then passes to a Dutch player leading to the counterattack goal. The TV camera didn't show the whole field so we couldn't tell what was happening in the midfield.

Shame our players couldn't really celebrate on two of the three we scored. Getting to do a knee slide in the World Cup has to be a fantastic feeling.

I think Pulisic thought he was offside on his early chance as he looked a little nonchalant. I thought he was offside in real time.

Sad to say, but I think sitting back, playing a lot of negative balls, and then sending hopeful balls forward in the air would probably have been the 'smarter' approach to a tournament game like this, all things considered. The Dutch were just licking their chops waiting to counter.

Pulisic certainly doesn’t score that Slovenia goal.
