By the way I ask everybody to double check your scores.

It's not impossible that there is somewhere an error but honestly there shouldn't be as I took my time.

I am a drama seeker. It has to be with drama and favorites on paper can't all pass in the next round.

USA, Australia, and Poland all have something in common. They reached the round of 16 despite only scoring two goals. I don't think that's going to cut it against Holland, Argentina, and France respectively, all of whom scored at least five goals.

    1. Holland (N) over USA

    2. Argentina (N) over Australia

    3. France (N) over Poland

England and Spain also have something in common. They were by far the most prolific goal-scoring countries in group play, with nine goals each, I think they have too much firepower for their R16 opponents.

    4. England (N) over Senegal

    5. Spain (N) over Morocco

Japan and South Korea had almost carbon-copy third matches in group play, going behind by 0-1, only to come back and win 2-1 against opponents it could be argued were not fielding their best lineup (Portugal) or putting forth less than 100% effort (Spain). I'm still a bit skeptical about both of them. South Korea have a mountain to climb in any event against Brazil.

    6. Brazil (N) over ROK

    7. Croatia (N) over Japan (My Japanese wife would punch me if she knew about this pick).

Finally, while I respect Portugal, I really like Switzerland in this tournament. They are solid both at the back and in midfield, and have proven they can score a bit as well. I do think they need Jann Sommer back in goal, as he is a special keeper.

    8. Switzerland (PK) over Portugal

I don't mean to be picky and it doesn't really affect your analysis at all but we did score 3 goals. One per game. This may not be enough to get past Argentina but while there's life there's hope.

It happens when you have world class attack but poor defense. Actually, scratch that - no defense. Our coach should be sacked yesterday but he has the gumption to talk about Germany, Belgium, and Denmark. Oh, well…typical Serbian auto-destruct mode.

I have decided my crystal ball needs a lot of cleaning up before I join in the knock-out stage contest. Like my team, I feel I was eliminated at the group stage.

A for @Hayaka winning the predictions contest, my congratulations to him. Well done. At least he has something to lessen the pain of seeing his Denmark fail and finish 4th in their group, behind not just France, but Australia and Tunisia as well. But that is football for you: a lot of banter, a lot of stats, 90 minutes or more with 11 players (or less) on each side chasing a ball, where the Germans now days lose too.
