But them you have rules that are not being properly enforced. It would be easier to try and least find a definition that says it’s go to be the whole body ahead or the feet ahead.
But you're still going down to measuring millimetres. Different refs have different thresholds for fouls, but we carry on with that always potentially being different from game to game. Leave the main decisions to onfield and just focus on eliminating the big errors and stop all the delays to the game flow. You're never going to get controversy out of the game. If the only arguments are someone scored despite having half a foot offside, then we're not in a bad place.
It would require removing the semi automated offside or we would have situations then where teams would be saying the tech has shown it was an offside but the ref didn’t get told that or disobeyed that.
Yeah, when I first saw it on real time it looked to me that he was a whole body off and I was getting pissed with the penalty call. But that VAR pic is rubbish.
I'd like to see feet only, not shirt crease lines, with a built in 6-12 inch margin built in so if you feel hard done by missing out of the margin by a bit it is still offsides either way, and it more captures the essence of ties go to the attacker
Offside rule is fine. Rule is black and white, not open to interpretation. You can score with your shoulder.
A lot of people on Twitter seem to think Man City are planning on offering Phillips to West Ham in return for Rice.
This video of Shearer and co laughing hysterically at Germany could be a big own goal. In this world cup everything can happen, as we saw today. Even Senegal could win on Sunday.
Pretty awful, ball is very clearly out. However, this was not what sent Germany out of the World Cup. It was themselves, by scoring that 2-2 goal. That basically locked this group. When doing that Spain could safely lose against Japan and secure the valuable second place. Best strategy for Germany would have been to stay behind Costa Rica, to make sure Spain needed to score, and after Spain scored, get the result they needed against Costa Rica, a draw.
Yeah, I just cringe when they do this sort of thing! I’m sure they just do it for attention or something because you know it will just come back and bite them in their backside and the rest of us get tarnished with the same brush.
I don't really see it, I mean whats the scenario here? It's not the players doing it so I don't really see how its an own goal. People will also be laughing when England get knocked out regardless of when or how it happens, just how it is.
Will many people be laughing if England lose to France or Spain or another big side? That’s just a close matchup. Germant don’t care quite as much about England as we do about them. The Dutch are their biggest rivals.
Yeah, course they will be laughing, the Scottish, Irish, Welsh and Paddy Pimblett plus the rest be sat there wearing the shirts of whoever we’re playing and rejoicing in our demise.
Is this the same scotland, Ireland and Wales that aren't at the world Cup? They really have nothing to be laughing about.
I see the Ghana politicians are the latest to mock Harry Maguire during a session in their parliament. I have to say, if we somehow managed to win this World Cup ( very unlikely I know ) and seeing Maguire lift the trophy would be the biggest shithousery this century considering all the mocking he has had to endure from rival fans and England fans also to be fair.
They surely will. It's just totally unnecessary and I felt embarrassed about it. And you can bet, this video will be over Twitter whenever England is eliminated in the future.
And anyway in 2014 it was us going out at the group stage and it could be us going out again at a group stage at upcoming tournaments.
Sorry but this idea that we can’t and shouldn’t enjoy a laugh at Germany’s expense is utter tripe. In the Euro’s final there were videos of them supporting Italy, go on YouTube and see. Perfectly set up for my next point, which is that we are probably the most hated nation on earth in sport after the US. Everyone was rooting for Italy in the final last year, go on YouTube and look at the comments in any of the videos, even countries who aren’t traditional rivals were saying they hated us and wanted Italy to win. Whenever England fail, people from all over the globe dish it out to us so we more than have the right to give it back. Finally, Germany’s time will come again, as will a lean period for us, so we should make the most of it while it lasts.
I suspect they were also many Germans prehaps more quietly supporting England considering Germany and Italy have a long football rivalry as well.
What does everyone think the likely teams will be. I'd be happy with something like Pickford Walker (assuming judged to be match fit) Stones Maguire Shaw Rice Phillips (again if fit) Bellingham Saka Kane Foden
