  3. Did we ever lose a WC match in the KO phase against an opponent not part of the top 10?

  4. La Gazzetta with a comment on Oranje:

    Okay, let's ignore the whole group stage for a moment;

In that case the playing of Blind, Klaassen (bench warmers at Ajax), and Depay his form (given how dependent the attack has been on him), is still a big worry.

Dumfries: okay, with a rosy glass like Gazzetta has maybe extra gears to give (wishful thinking), but the other issues stand.

(Besides, vs Ecuador the team made more metres and more on high intensity as the opponent)

Memphis was quoted as saying he prefers playing with Bergwijn in attack although he praised Gakpo for his play.
I’m all for it with Gakpo as the 10, and don’t understand why Van Gaal would have messed with that tandem as they were excellent in many of the Qualifiers and Nations League matches.
Memphis injury has not helped Bergwijn who lacked support from the rather weak lineup in the Senegal and Ecuador matches.
All 3 can interchange between the forward and the 10 and that mobility is needed not Janssen or Klaassen.
Hoping Van Gaal goes back to that pairing and Cody as the 10.

Yeah, Holland were a bit lucky on the second goal that the Qatari defender's attempted clearance of the cross skipped right into Depay's path. As you noted, good work from there by Memphis to control and get a shot on frame. FdJ impressive to be alert and beat three Qatari defenders to the loose ball.

Ex-player pundits seem to be pretty much crap everywhere - be it England, NL, or the USA. I recommend the "Scuffed Podcast" for far superior (and even-handed/realistic) analysis and insight regarding the USA NT.

The USA aren't good, but I think its an exaggeration to say they're crap. They're in the morass of teams ranked between #15 to #30 who are all about the same level on a given day. Shouldn't pose a threat to a Holland team firing on all cylinders. But obviously that's not what we're seeing from the Oranje in this tournament so far.

I would certainly prefer Bergwijn over any of Janssen, Weghorst, or LdJ.

USA are less technical and less experienced.... they do compensate with their passion and energy. Last match v. Iran was obvious because they needed to win (it was their knockout game, practically speaking). But even the match before v. England, they were very much in the balance until the final whistle. If Oranje play flat and lethargic, just how they did against Ecuador, they will be in deep, deep trouble. The USA team will run them off the pitch.

That said, LVG is master tactician, and he's been "here" before.... I think he will make the necessary adjustment to make the Oranje team ready. Fingers crossed!

As we’ve already seem this tournament the underdog can always beat the favorite. The USA could certainly beat us. Especially looking at what we’ve displayed up to this point.

With that being said I’d absolutely hate going out against the USA. We wouldn’t hear the end of it.

  12. Memphis should STFU and start playing better.
Memphis Depay heeft wel een idee hoe Oranje het land achter zich krijgt: ‘Ik speel het liefst met Bergwijn’

Pushing for Bergwijn, who's been miserable for the last 8 weeks, thus dissing Gakpo.
If I was Gakpo I would kick Memphis the way van Hanegem and the other great ones did with players in training with a big mouth without performance to go with it.

    It can’t happen!
    It won’t happen.
No reason Oranje don’t get their shit together and take care of business and boss this match throughout.

Indeed. So disrespectful with so little to show for it. Even if this is his preference, why on earth would you publicly say this knowing Gakpo’s confidence is riding high at the moment? This could hurt us more than help us. Both him and Bergwijn have been way too below par to utter such nonsense.

  19. My guess is LvG will try to let the Orange Squad suck out the energy from the US players and bring in around the 60/65 minutes mark the fresh and very fast trickful legs of Xavi Simons and Noa Lang. Depay hasnot got the stamina yet to be full trottle longer than 60 minutes.

I read that Memphis first spoke of how well Gakpo has been playing and really complimented his overall play and production.
I think Van Gaal made “another” mistake in not having Memphis play with Bergwijn the other day as that partnership has done very well. Instead we had Klaassen as the 10.
    Play Gakpo as the 10!
There is a lot of mobility and switching between Memphis Bergwijn and Gakpo .
Bergwijn getting some grief about his performance in his 60 plus minutes vs Senegal and 45 minutes against Ecuador.
My question is how can you expect to play well when he’s not getting proper service?
The lack of quality wing back play hurts along with little supply, and playing with Janssen or Klaassen will not help.
Oranje need to showcase much better attacking quality, proactive movement, faster speed of play, and skill going forward.
For me I am hoping to see that combo of Bergwijn and Memphis with Gakpo at that 10 is a very strong group.
Sub in dynamic, younger, skillful, athletic players like Xavi and Lang.

  23. Louis talking shit:

So you select a player who has no right to be in Qatar, based on his performance sofar for Ajax, Taylor, and put him in the team against Qatar and to Xavi Simons you talk shit.
