Furthermore...it's the World Cup!!! There are no easy games. Every team is there for s reason. Not to mention that the USA is still by and large viewed as a minnow in world football.

I'm not a Fire Berhalter! guy by any means. Despite some imperfections, I think he's done a terrific job. But I think that one cycle should be enough for almost anybody, except for spectacularly successful people like Didier Deschamps or Helmut Schoen.

Nobody expected him to try for goal. His job was to dribble the ball to the corner and/or maintain possession for as long as possible, maybe draw a foul or two. He did none of that.

Name another US coach that's done what Berhalter has done so far. The list is literally just Bruce Arena.

    37-10-11
    Won the Nations League
Won the Gold Cup (nearly completely different roster)

World Cup - Qualified for Round of 16, conceded 0 goals from the run of play, and did that with the 2nd youngest roster at the WC. If they somehow beat the Dutch and make the Round of 8, it would be criminal to not give him another cycle.

Getting us to the Quarters would go a long way in helping him find a job in club football.

If Berhalter goes some people actually think we can just magically find a better alternative?

    News flash:
It will be tough to find a manager that wants to come in and change things to his new philosophy within three and a half years time with only Nations League and a couple of Gold Cups as official prep? Maybe some no pressure friendlies sprinkled in?
Makes me sick just thinking about it. There would be major growing pains and transitional bumps in the road.

It may have been said before, but no NT coach has had a team of this quality, period. IMHO, this team is winning in spite of the coach. Sure, he puts the players on the field, but that's pretty clear who should be there. Even some of his picks were/are suspect. The defense is holding it down, but the offense is hanging by a thread. Through injury, unfortunately , we are missing some quality defenders so I feel we would have been even stronger with them present. We pretty much have the offensive players we all hoped would finally be able to play together. We should be producing. more shots on goal. And then the Reyna mystery. I have nothing to really say except we are not in the locker room. There are a couple of American coaches that have had success at higher levels than MLS. Some have inspired their team to fight off relegation or achieve promotion. You can't do that without scoring goals. Enough of me with this stuff, but to win tourneys, you must score and create an environment of offense.

You sure about that? Whole lot of spotlight on these games. His coaching acumen on display with the talent we have.

Berhalter certainly has earned the right to make the decision himself about whether to stay or not, but I think he would be doing himself a favor if he didn't stay. Remember that as impressive as Bruce Arena's record is, it would be even better if he had only coached one cycle.

Uhm, every team is filled with quality players, it's called the World Cup. Every team has dangerous players. It's incredulous how many people downplay and complete disrespect the talent other teams have.
Iran needed a goal or they were out. They were going to pour everything into going forward. We were going to have to absorb that pressure. That fans refuse to acknowledge that is their problem.
And our talent? Our best player is riding the bench in London. Dest and Mckennie are coming off injuries and not playing full matches for their clubs. Reyna is pulling a hammy every minute, our starting keeper is riding the bench, our captain starts for a pretty bad team in England, and our strikers all stink.
We have good players, but so do all the other teams.

I'm sorry, but if we were ENGLAND I would agree. Southgate is crap, probably worse than Berhalter, but he has still done a fantastic job resurrecting the US program.

I'm not a Berhalter fan, but a lot of people can't man up and admit A. He's doing well and B. They may have been wrong.

Results? I dont think so. We tied a Wales team that everybody else beat easily. 0-0 against England was ok. But the biggest LACK OF RESULTS is 2 goals in 3 games. That is not going to take us any further than we are now. I am not one to blame the forward, who ever he is, but I do blame GB. He has no idea how to build an attacking team plus he's a fool. Look at all the players he brought that are useless and have not seen a minute. So why did he waste a roster spot on them?
If we want to mover forward then GB is not the coach to take us there. Oh yean, he could get us qualified and if getting out of the group stage is the goal, he can do that but I for one want more. We have enough talent go go further but not with GB. We're rather lucky to not get tied by Iran. It's hard to bunker for over 30 minutes and not get scored on.
GB has taken this team as far as he can. Time to move on

That, to put it as politely as I can, is asinine. England scored 9, that's NINE, goals in their other two games. The US game was 0-0 and we were clearly the better side from start to finish.

Nations League, Gold Cup, WC qualification, Round of 16. That's 4.5 years after literally none of those things happened. To claim Berhalter isn't getting results is either disingenuous or outright stupid.

Some people are so miserable they always want to complain. Don't let the haters bring down the fact that we have played great. Our team has matured and evolved so much since 2017. Let's just enjoy this moment, as a fan base, we deserve it too.

At this point I'm just having fun trashing the morons. I rarely venture into this part of BS specifically because of how insufferable and indignant the standard USMNT tool "fan" is, but it's enjoyable right now seeing them just spin everything they can into the worst possible take instead of admitting they have no clue what they're talking about.

Keep in mind that all these people did was bash Arena, Bradley, Klinsmann, etc. Its what they do. They're never happy. If Berhalter actually won the World Cup, then they'd still say the squad won "in spite of him."

There will ALWAYS be players picked for squads that I don't agree with. There will ALWAYS be tactics that I don't agree with. There will always be certain aspects of the USSF, USMNT, USYNTs that I wish were better.

But hell...............we just qualified for the knockout stages of the World Cup. If you can't enjoy this, then you've got problems. What can you actually enjoy? Have a beer, take a deep breath, and just have fun.

I'm far from a Berhalter fan to be honest but he's done the job he was hired to do. We're through to the knockout rounds and if we can win one more game, it will match our best run ever. Whether you like his style or not his results have been good, and he deserves some respect. I feel like a lot of the people who are still unimpressed think we should be able to run and gun with the world and that our small collection of guys on big teams means we should do nothing but dance on the ball for 90. But that's extremely naive. We are winning the only way you could reasonably expect a team of our level to win, hard work, defending as a team, making it incredibly difficult for the opponent and grinding out wins, exactly what we did in the God Cup and Nations League. Contrary to the media narrative, the Berhalter way isn't about being pretty on the ball as much as it is working as a team. defending all over the field, staying in the game and taking our chances. There are certainly some areas I'd still like to see improvement, particularly in set pieces and generating more chances, but this team has performed well and we're now in the last 16 in the world. That's not too shabby and the guy in charge should get at least some of the credit.
