My big weakness is that I don't follow K-League (bad timezone for me). But what you said is good news. They just need more training sessions together.

Cant really blame KSG. The defender line was too deep so he couldnt really get out. Also, KJS blocked his vision temporarily for the 3rd goal.

Aside from the fact that both Cho Gue-sung and Kim Jin-su are teammates for Jeonbuk, the Cho Gue-sung+Lee Kang-in link up worked out really well. I don't know what would have been had Lee Kang-in not come in during the second half, but Kwon Chang-hoon's form really killed the tempo.

KCH should never be picked for our NT. He went downhill after he went to the army.

I want to witness history being made on Friday morning as I spur on our team toward great success from LA.

Everyone loves a good redemption story so SHM pls make us proud after all that you went through in prep for Qatar mask and all. You're in your prime. This is it, brotha. Be bold. Be selfish. Be an arsehole. Knock in them worldies like there is no tomorrow. YOU ARE THE MAN.

KMJ, get that bag, dude. You may well be our next captain.

LKI, you're getting the baton passed to you. You're our greatest hope for the next decade with big shoes to fill. Make your mark in Qatar. I do hope you start.

HHC, we need your physical presence and directness to complement SHM. Massage up.

CGS, you're the real Burberry ambassador. If you net a goal, surely you'll feature in a top 3 league in Europe and in a Vogue feature.

Everything is on the line. The Qatar opportunity you're being given as Korea's top ballers is a once in a lifetime privilege. Make grown men cry. Seize it and enjoy it! FIGHTING!

I don't even care anymore about the rest of this WC. I'm already so proud of our boys even only after 2 games and with a single point to show for it. Don't know why, but I'm proud.

Also, I'm not delusional. I know what our chances are against POR. Given that, I don't know the extent to KMJ's injury, but I really hope he's not risking his career for this game. He shouldn't have played against GHA as well... but I can understand why he'd power through that one. But against POR, I wouldn't mind him just resting. I hope he can continue at Napoli right where he left off.

And as many posters have said. WTF. How the HELL was LKI not featured at every fking game this year!?!?!?

Review of Ghana and preview of Portugal

    Summary in English

    Negatives from Ghana:
    • Hwang Hee Chan missing (missing a player with ability to proceed the ball forward 1on1)
    • Son's injury (peripheral vision hampered by the mask)
      • Putting more pressure on Kim Jin Su due to Son not being 100%, asking KJS to do a lot more than ever asked previously and leading to mistakes (but they praised KJS for doing the best he can as he was never supposed to do this much under normal circumstances)
    • Lee Jae Sung not playing hurts the mid field
    • Kim Min Jae not 100% has hurt the back line and organization
    • We were terrible in set piece defense (one of main criticism of Bento era)
    Positives from Ghana:
    • Cho Gue Sung - much needed presence in the box, style fits who we need for how we play
    • Big Woo Young - good defending, helping with build up from the back
    • Lee Kang In - changes the game
    Looking ahead to Portugal:
    • Hoping for HHC to play, rotate some tired players
    • Lee Jae Sung pivotal
    • Should think about starting Lee Kang In
    • Higher defensive line even if KMJ can't play

I'm proud as well. The way they fought to keep it level vs a tough opponent in Uruguay and the way they continued to battle after going down 2:0 vs Ghana.

Having said that, I made the mistake of reading the comments from "2002 World Cup conspiracy" videos saying how Korea's run is the most corrupt thing ever in football... Soooooo I want to see us beat Portugal again and shove it in their faces. (The commenters were mostly Italian btw)

I wouldn’t mind if HHC and LKI are used as subs. This matchup against Portugal is the worst for LKI since they are going to dominate the midfield against us. And starting HHC is a risk with his health and questionable form. Maybe LJS should start as he is well rested and his workrate is super high. Little Wooyeong was invisible last game but his energy and pressing could be useful for a half, either him or NSH. Then sub on LKI at 50’ and HHC at 60’

LKI will still be one of the most valuable players for this team against Portugal because of his elite crossing ability. If Portugal dominates the midfield, crossing from the flanks and from dead ball situations becomes even more important for us.

His left foot crosses are extremely dangerous and game changing. We absolutely cannot afford to not start him.

Kim MJ skipped the practice session on 30th. Removing Kim MJ Son HM Hwang IB from the starting lineup should be considered. Kim MJ is good but I don't think injured Kim MJ is better than a health average Kim on the NT. Son HM is a different matter. His presence alone can affect the game as he is internationally known.

Immense motivation speech. Someone forward this to the team base in Qatar. And to boot, you've put up a clip of Aegukga. Never fails to get the hairs on my body to stand up. In the current tune, or Auld Lang Syne, it's beautiful either way.

The guys out there on Friday will need to think of the 2. and 3. (my favorite) stanza a lot. It'll get nasty at times, but- stand firm, and then counterattack!

I must say posts like yours are filling me with positive energy. I struggle with a form of depression. But like 4 years ago, Korea ignited something positive in me. A belief that teamwork pays off. That there are heroes in the shape of normal people and decent human beings.

I've wondered what Bento thought about having to go against his home country. No, I don't believe he got sent off as a calculated move. He just has a nasty temper. He's had red cards as a player, on the big stage too. But it must be tough for him. If I were the KNT manager and had to face Croatia, my heart would be wrapped in barbed wire. Too much respect for Korea to just stay silent during the Aegukga, or to not use every bit my knowledge of Croatian mindset, players and habits to maximize the chances of a win for Korea. But I most likely wouldn't jump about in joy, if Croatia lost.

This being said, perhaps it's best that a Korean member of the coaching staff give team talks to galvanize the players.

B team could be better than their A team depending on who they rotate.

we beat POR and hope URU beats GHA ;) i also think on world stage physicality matters a lot. AUS players are physically imposing.

Clearly Australia used up all the luck allocated to AFC for the 3rd round. Korea are doomed.

The referee is Facundo Tello. He once issued 10 red cards in a game. He also loves to give out yellow cards. Korea ia so unlucky in this world cup. Used up all their luck when Uru hit the goalpost twice.

I would start Son injured. I don't know how many times I've seen 2 or 3 defenders marking him in the first two games. Even if he can't do anything much with all that attention, it opens up things for others.

Kim Minjae skipped the final practice session. He did the bicycle routine, the same as before the Ghana match.
