But but but, look at what Messi did! If you talk to people outside of the Real Madrid bubble, you understand why they don't like Ronaldo, and it's a self engineered tragedy. The only thing I hope for Ronaldo is that he pumps the breaks and doesn't go out sad and humiliated overdoing it. That Piers Morgan Interview was a horrifying insight into the mind of a guy that feels he's absolutely flawless and anything that goes wrong is the cause of others. People make fun of Messi all the time, but he's applauded for showing weakness, while Ronaldo mostly shows his emotions in anger and frustration. When that is the energy you project, that is the energy you attract.
I thought the US - Iran game was one of the worst of the tournament, from a neutral standpoint. Second division level football, but I understand if you have interest in the result it heightens the tension. Personally I couldn't wait for it to be over.
If you look outside this forum you’ll realise why people call out Real Madrid fans for disrespecting their legends and this is classical example. Literally every sentence in your reply can be turned on its head and applied with perfection to criticise Messi yet he’s the hero for showing weakness? Gimme a goddamn break! He’s just as insecure and as a matter of fact I’d argue that this facet of character is rather a byproduct of greatness. You don’t become great at something without having people bickering at the back for some petty things to pick on you. At the end of the day, Portugal won and that’s all matters to him. He isn’t losing sleep over one goal you haters are trying to rip him off from. He’s got far far many goals to in his illustrious career to boast about while all we have here are some meaningless posts On a forum!
You mean the babies on twitter? Or real people? I've seen people cry when meeting Raul in person. Grown men, in shirts of teams completely unrelated to Real Madrid. Football has changed. There are no players around ready to sacrifice the final payday for a chance of dignified retirement. Ramos went to Paris to be a lackey. Where was his loyalty when it came down to it? People realize that. What you need to do is take Messi away from any Ronaldo argument and people still don't like Ronaldo. The dislike for Ronaldo's antics doesn't have anything to do with anybody other than Ronaldo. Also, controversial as it may be, Ronaldo is not a Real Madrid legend. He's one of the best players in the club's history, but he doesn't speak the language to the club. He isn't the voice of the team he was on.
People that diss Messi even when you take Ronaldo comparison away from Messi also do exist! So yeah that point is moot. Also, Cristiano is absolute definition of club legend in my book so let’s agree to disagree. You take out Ronaldo from last decade and the trophy cabinet looks significantly different.
Aurélien Tchouaméni has the highest pass completion rate (97%) among midfielders with min. 100 passes at the World Cup. He’s also the player with the most combined tackles & interceptions among midfielders (13). @OptaJoe pic.twitter.com/PlpVyJq3qn— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) November 29, 2022
Yeah I don’t know how we are supposed to defend such a cringy and petty behavior because he was a Madrid legend. If anything, it’s embarrassing
No he isn't, he badmouthed us the moment he left the club and proclaimed how Juventus is family. This idiot thinks he is bigger than Madrid, otherwise he would have never left us. Him winning the Ballon d'or so many times has got lot to do with the amazing support cast he has had over the years. Guess what, after he left two Ballon d'ors from our club while he has had none, and he is so terrible and cheap he didn't even bother to congratulate Modric and Benzema, terrible terrible human being. He is an absolute monster ( the best) when it comes to goal scoring, he is nothing more than that on an institution level.
Historical revisionism at its best. How quickly people forget. What Ronaldo was doing when he was here was absolutely unprecedented. Its only when your ego exceeds your ability that things start to look bad, and that wasn't the case while Ronaldo was at Madrid.
Who denied that he is the best goalscorer in the history of Madrid ? Who denied that he was otherworldly during his tenure here ? He is not half a Madridista when compared to a Zidane or a Ramos or Modric or Benzema. Guy's thinking starts and ends with him. All of us knew he won't retire without embarrassing himself, good that we don't have to deal with that problem anymore. He is so stupid and myopic he is tarnishing his legacy now, he already did that with ManU, really has the brains of a 5 years old.
None of this matters when assessing his legend status. He performed miracles when he was here. He was as good as Messi was for Barcelona, do you realize what that means. So sorry, I'm not going to put more weight to his behaviour now wherever his, than his outworldly performances while he was here when I decide when I decide whether I consider him a legend.
When you win everything that you can possibly as a player with the most decorated club of the world and then like a prick go and say your new club is family, you lose your legend status atleast to people like us who has been following football for 25+ years. Over time people will forget all this and what will matter is stats. Right now he is just a steaming pile of shit both on and off the field. Also,it would have been much better to retire here while slowly diminishing his game time( becoming an impact sub) rather than retiring at Saudi clubs, really really shameful if that happens.
To be fair, he was lied to by Florentino Perez. It's common knowledge. I'd actually say he didn't match what Messi did at Barcelona, he exceeded it because Ronaldo drove Real Madrid to 4 Champions League titles, 3 in a row, while no other club was able to even win 2 in a row. He delivered beyond any possible expectations. And what was his reward from the club? Them going back on their promise. And I say the club because as president, Florentino, de facto, represents it. Tell me, how would you feel if you went above and beyond for your employer and then they basked in the glory you produced for them and then lied to you. You'd be thrilled, I'm guessing, right?

It’s odd, but I wonder if Ancelotti is going to watch Camavinga play LB with the idea that perhaps it might be a useful option situationally in the future.
This US team doesn't exactly inspire Americans to take up soccer like some of the past US world cup teams did. I guess that shouldn't really be the job of any WC team, nevertheless I can't help have that thought in the back of my mind whenever I watch the US in a World Cup.
Oh yeah I’m sure it was absolutely awful for a neutral. We played some good football in the first half but based on both Wales and Iran it seems this team just doesn’t know how to play with a lead.
God I hope not. I’m sure he’d be an improvement over Mendy even though he’s never played there before but Cama needs to be in the CM position.
Maybe it's my love for the team, maybe it's recency bias, but I disagree with you relative to historical US teams. I find this team to be much more technical, dynamic, and aesthetically pleasing than virtually every version of the usmnt before it. We used to be a team that would park the bus and hoof it 80 yards downfield hoping for a miracle goal. A set piece goal team. We have never had a midfield that can genuinely dominate the ball against most nations. Of course, this team has significant weaknesses, particularly at striker, but I think this team has way more quality on the ball. Even the legendary 2002 usmnt team that made it to a quarterfinal was under 40% possession in practically every game primarily because they didn’t have the technical ability. Its been a hard knock life as a usmnt fan lol. To go from a team that missed the last World Cup to this team is night and day.
