That’s goal number 1 for next cycle. We have a good core, and now we have to find more guys who help us make sure we don’t run those guys into the ground.
What is fantastic is that the last three hits of the ball are all one touch -- boom, boom, boom. Just great recognition and execution. And I think this is the element of tactical coaching we never, ever see here -- this is a play we do from time to time (see the Nations League v Honduras), but we clearly saw something against Iran.
Bone bruises heal extremely slowly; I had one go on for months. But, I was an older man. And I did it reeling in a bass, believe it or not. Slipped down the creek bank and somehow popped my knee which resulted in a bone bruise somehow on the upper shin. I am not making this up.
Fair enough. I think one difference between me and other posters is that while I am certainly both in support of this statement and guilty of breaking it, I think we should extend it to the players and coaching staff. I get that is the minority here. But there can be discussion and criticism without some of the level of vitriol. Agree.
Yeah me too. And lack of rotation may come back to haunt us in fatigue, injuries or YC accumulation. But the same thing has been going on at Arsenal this season and look where it's gotten us. Sometimes a coach will just find his preferred XI and just wanna stick with it. But I agree that in a tournament where you're playing every 4-5 days it would be nice if we could still succeed while rotating more.
Early on, I definitely had hopes that we'd reach the point this cycle where qualifying would be easy. Whether it was youth, COVID, depth, injuries, lack of time together, coaching, or me wildly underestimating CONCACAF -- or, more likely, all of the above, it was readily apparent that that was not in the cards pretty quickly. I think I was a little aggressive thinking we could be the Germany or Brazil of CONCACAF (relatively speaking). I definitely did not think we were going to bulldoze the group stage. Even if they were people's original January 1, 2018 expectations ... I mean, it's time to let that go.
The Guardian I think it was had three people on saying they think the US will best Holland because the US midfield is too good for Holland. So maybe that’s the general English perspective. biggest difference is we had a tough game 3…they had Qatar…they may be fresher.
Name a social media site or message board where people don’t tell each other how to feel about a subject of common interest, and scold those who see things differently. You can’t. There isn’t one. It’s half of what social media is. Stupid and pointless? Yes. But “agree to disagree” is just not a common thing online.
I think he has, but I wouldn't necessarily say that he's earned it more than Adams and Pulisic have. That said, there's at least 90 minutes more soccer left to play, and maybe another 90+ after that! Lots of stories can still be written.
I like the idea but we were lost once McKinney couldn’t close down in the corner. We already subbed our best attaching player due to injury and then we had only Acosta as a reasonable sub option. (I would have dropped Brendan back and put in Reyna…) Then Sarge who was having a good game got hurt. So now we are at a place where we just don’t have the bench. The only subs that have played were are Aaronson and today Zimmerman..,out of three games. The talent just isn’t there.
I wouldn't, especially because he's left footed, always plays on the left, and there's simply no way that he merits a spot over Tim Ream right now.
I don't know... maybe you could give, crazy idea, Gio Reyna some serious playing time. That de la Torre guy ain't bad, either... There's also Pepi....
If anybody knows this girl and she’s looking for a green card to escape the tyranny of Iran, my DMs are open. pic.twitter.com/kC8y6mpElJ— Joey Knish (@JoeyKnish22) November 29, 2022
I was wondering all match why Wes spent so much time on the left side after being so good on the right side against England.
We had some of our best moments when Pulisic was out in the first half. Including a great cross by Sargent Pulisic might have finished.
I'm not Gregg's biggest fan, but it wasn't too long ago when it was commonly acknowledged that our defense was a train wreck. That had to be job one, and he deserves total credit for that. And while our talent is much improved, most of the starting lineup picks itself. There, I'm not saying anything else, or the negative vibes will ruin some folks' night! (p.s.: Gio, if you're reading, I'm really hoping you get a few more minutes over the next four matches...)
He will deliver results until his limited approach fails because of a lack of goals. And no extension. Period. No one should get two cycles. Klinmann achieve led the same thing and extending him was a disaster
Every minute of this WC has been do or die and we don’t have quality depth. We have to ask our best players to carry a heavy burden. It’s just how it is with the talent pool right now. Especially with MMA… the drop off from any of those three to Acosta/Roldan/LDLT is very large. We desperately need a few more quality 6s and 8s. Aaronson and Reyna can provide some cover there but they are also needed on the wings and who knows what’s going on with Reyna. He’s just unavailable basically.
Feel I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I don’t agree. Teams I’m sure are better: England (as silly as it sounds) Argentina France Denmark Croatia Brazil Portugal There are other teams that when fully healthy and on form could be like Senegal, Japan, Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Serbia etc but Friday afternoon if people ranked r16 teams I’m betting we’d be 8-12. Even some of the teams I have ahead of us like Argentina and Denmark have not been better than us so far.
