Don't the easy draws give a fake sense of being better than you actually are? Senegal are tough. My only issue with them i they're reactive amd only push when things are tight. Let me ask you, does Rashford make a case to start ahead of Sterling?
It will forever be our problem I’m afraid. I liked the subs, thought TAA philips grealish raised the technical level of the team. Rashford obviously had a great game. As I feared Foden will never play well on the wing for England, not powerful enough, it should be either the center either the bench.
Sure, easy draws, it makes you look better than what you are, but at the same time it does not give much opportunity to show how good you are. But an advantage may be the opportunity to rest. That may be important when you play a tournament like this with games every fourth day. Yeah, Senegal are tough, but at this level, they are not the worst opponent. I mean if England cant beat them, we just have tor write off nothing more than a decent minus tourament. Rashford vs Sterling. I would choose Sterling. Solely based on his Euro 20 performance. He got the tap ins that put England in the final. Could Rashford do that, maybe, but we can never see both. But Rashford can be an asset when England really need a goal ...
Can we just enjoy each game as it comes. Holy moly. Let's just enjoy a nice win and watch the rest of the group stages.
If Rashford gets on against Senegal it will be his 50th cap. Will be the fourth youngest behind Sterling, Owen and Rooney.
There’s SO much talent in the team. Southgate just needs to use it well. So far in this tournament I have to give him that he’s been smarter in his game management and his subs. Not perfect but a bit better than in the last competitions.
Luke Shaw says memory of grandmother is inspiring him to succeed at #Qatar2022. Bereavement came on eve of 1st England game & #ENG boss Southgate offered 27yo time off. But #MUFC left-back says he has grieved + full focus is on #FIFAWorldCup @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/GEXkvAqfpm— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) November 29, 2022
Was disappointed with trent. I thought he would try and impress a bit more. He didn't try any of his long raking balls
Felt Shaw was poor, really wasteful having gotten into some good positions, he has to provide accurate crosses/cut backs
American fan here… Congrats on winning the group. Our game was a nail biter and we made it through, barely. Iran could have easily nicked a goal in the waning moments. Actually scoring goals is not something we seem to do enough of. Good luck in the round of sixteen.
Kouyate should be back according to reports. Back in training. Gana Gueye is a bit past it. Papa Gueye a good replacement.
Thought he played really well, involved in the 3rd goal and very comfy on the ball. There’s a gulf in quality on the ball between him and the other options
Really not quite sure what everyone expects Trent to do in a 20 minute cameo! I thought he was fine to be honest. Defended what he had to defend played the right balls. He’s not just going to look for Hollywood passes when probably told by Southgate to keep control of the game.
Sterling Vs Rashford reminds me of Delle Ali Vs Barkley back in the day. Sterling, like Delle, has a lot of technical and positional qualities but Rashford has a level of explosiveness that is perfect for international football.
See how dropping Mount and Sterling for Foden and Rashford gave us the direct play we were missing . The 4-3-3 we used worked well. I would drop Henderson for Phillips and that is the lineup we have to go with .
An awful lot of folk are raving about the influence of Henderson in midfield .. organising and barking orders ( from Southgate) .. he is the only vocal player we have aside from Conor Coady who never gets a chance Random fact .. apparently Coady is the dressing room ‘brainbox’ I always imagined that Saka was the brightest player ..
He has to do what he’s told by Southgate or he will never play ! Same applies to Grealish at City .. he’s not allowed to play his normal game . Pep instructs him to stay out wide on the touch line then hold the ball and attract opponents to him which frees up loads of space for the others Grealish should have gone to Liverpool imho
Saka and Maguire got the best exam results. Rice said during the euros he thinks he is the thickest member of the squad.
