I’m still a happy the that China made it into the first Women's World Cup. They played great to make the final and that was a good match. until near the end a Chinese lady put her hand on Mia Hamm’s shoulder in the penalty area. That first WWC was a really grass movement moment though.
Yeah, I was in Northern China on a cold October night watching a match at a park on a giant screen, some 20 years ago, and I still remember the happiness of the long suffering common folk when they made it to their first WC. I think they beat Oman, or UAE, or Quatar, I don’t recall which one was the clincher, I watched several games there. But everybody was excited, drinking and partying all night, and including this foreigner in their celebrations.
I'm sure you are aware that the 4th is there to not only manage both benches and subs, assist the CR with on field calls and, last but not, least be ready to take over the CR's duties should he not be able to continue.
She was, she had a good game in the final as well. Then when she ran along the face of the crowd slapping hands in celebration Some Fkn stupid twit grabbed her hand and pow, dislocated shoulder.!!! I believe that lead to her retirement.
I remember she had a hard time getting over the shoulder injury. Guess I should have googled how long she stayed playing.
After all my compliments about Peacock I’ve just looked at the fixtures and times for tomorrow Well probably not the cocks cockup that both big matches for group B are being played at the same time. It could well be that FIFA in all their care for the sport is trying to prevent a West Germany, Austria fiasco happening again.
Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s been standard practice for awhile to play the final group games simultaneously, for exactly that reason.
The managing subs part is overrated, and can be done by an inanimate object, in all honesty. The rest can be done from the center of the pitch, and even better than from the touchline, as in a lead-and-trail system when there are only 2 officials on-hand. Hell, if a ref only has to run from one 18 yard line to the midfield stripe (while a 2nd ref covers the other half of the pitch), (s)he can probably do a better job than having to run from 18 to 18 for 90 minutes. I maintain that the 4th ref is among the most useless official in all of sports; most of his/her duties can be done by an inanimate object.
Lots of Xenophobia from Mexican media and fans towards Tata Martino right now. Accusing him of losing on purpose. Dude should have been fired last year for losing 3 times to the USA, but Mexico fans are just looking for scape goats on why Mexico can't beat Argentina. It would be funny if Fures Mori plays and scores a hat trick to get Mexico to the next round.
US Soccer had no business doing that, if they're the party responsible for it. I'd like to see Iran, Saudi Arabia and Qatar change the US flag to resemble a Confederate flag and see how the US folks like it.
Mexican fans (or soccer fans in general) being xenophobic? Color me surprised. The Mexicans are delusional as well. This current team may be their worst for the last 20 years.
