Eh… he’ll be on a free transfer and his salary will only count $600,000ish against the cap. Higuain retired. There’s your DP spot right there.

Ronaldo's rape allegations might be a huge negative.

That case was either dismissed or settled.

I don’t hear the same hate for Ronaldo then. Funny that. Almost like people don’t care and are hypocrites.

Who shames Ronaldo for his accusations?

A young woman who is employed as a model and cocktail hostess in Las Vegas spent an evening in a swanky club drinking and canoodling with maybe the richest and most famous athlete on Earth (there's video) , and then around one AM she accompanied him up to his hotel room. There's little doubt as to what was on the agenda.

Ronaldo says it was consensual, model/hostess says it was rape. She went to the police, they looked into it and refused to get involved. She later agreed to STFU for a one time $350,000 payment. Her lawyer calls it hush money, most others consider it nuisence money.

Then NINE YEARS LATER a particularly slimy lawyer talked her into filing a lawsuit demanding a whopping $25 million. The police looked at it again and said no thanks and the judge was so wildly offended by the so-called attorney's shenanigans that he tossed the whole thing out and got the lawyer sanctioned.

I'm not going to pass judgement either way. I wasn't there. What I will say with certainty is that this case bears virtually no resemblance to the DeShaun Watson deal.

Well, looks like we're out of the running for Ronaldo.

Reports.say that he is on the verge of.signing with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia for half a billion dollars over roughly 30 months ($207 million a year) , which works out to $17.2 million a month.

I'm not sure but I'm gonna guess that's a little rich for Dee and Jimmy's blood.

Complete lack of ambition. They need to sell the team now.

His annual salary would be a good four or five-year deal in American sports. MLS could get as big as MLB or the NBA and still mot be in the running to sign the creme de la creme.

This is in contrast to Major League Rugby, who could sign whoever they want if they could only get to MLS-size payrolls.

    https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/majo...ions-for-la-galaxy-for-violating-salary-budge

NEW YORK (Friday, December 2, 2022) – Major League Soccer today announced sanctions imposed on the LA Galaxy for violating salary budget and roster guidelines during the 2019 season. The LA Galaxy entered into agreements that were not disclosed that included payments that were not accounted for in the calculation of Cristian Pavón’s salary budget and roster category. The undisclosed agreements and payments resulted in the improper classification of Pavón as a Target Allocation Money (TAM) player in 2019, who should have occupied a Designated Player slot.

The sanctions for the LA Galaxy include a $1 million fine for the club and a $1 million loss of available future General Allocation Money (GAM), and the Galaxy will be prohibited from registering a player who requires the receipt of an International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from outside of the United States and Canada during the Secondary Transfer Window in 2023.

For his involvement in the agreements, LA Galaxy President Chris Klein has been suspended from any sporting-related responsibilities through the conclusion of the Primary Transfer Window in 2023. During that time, Greg Vanney will be promoted to Sporting Director and will report directly to AEG President and CEO, Dan Beckerman.

Additionally, former General Manager Dennis te Kloese will be required to submit an application with the Office of the Commissioner should he wish to secure employment with any MLS club.

    Stick with me here…

    • LA Galaxy just sent Kevin Cabral to Colorado for $1 million GAM. He is a left winger / striker.

    • LA Galaxy just got fined $1 million GAM for financial shenanigans, so this move basically nullifies that while getting rid of a shit player. Win win honestly.

    • LA Galaxy have also been banned from bringing in players this summer in the secondary window, which means players can only be brought in during the first window. Even if someone is signing now but not coming until later, they have to come in the first window. This only applies to players from foreign leagues.

    • LA will need to fill out their roster this winter mainly, and make any splashy moves now as well.

    • Cristiano Ronaldo, a left winger / striker, is a free agent right now, and Leo Messi is rumored to be coming to Miami in the summer. Messi and Ronaldo in the same league, I’m just sayin’………

How is a player with his career stats worth $1M in GAM?

They just used fake money to sign a guy with big potential to replace Zardes.

To be fair, Cabral actually is good, he’s a good dribbler, gets in dangerous positions etc, he’s just a bad finisher right now (maybe forever, who knows).

Holy shit man, these mofos can’t just leave shit alone. So frustrating.

This appears to be in motion. Plan, I'm told, is for a total overhaul of the MLS postseason, featuring a "World Cup-style" competition - top 8 teams in each conference advance into a group stage, with the top 8 group stage finishers advancing to a single-elimination bracket.

    Hate.

If you want to have groups where teams play several other teams, there's a format for that already: The season.

Still not as bad as the Belgian playoff system

Edit: NVM I just remembered the weird seeding and hosting rules. Imagine being top seed and clinching your advancement to the next round in game 2, and then hosting a meaningless game 3. They may need to incentivize points in the group stage
