Sources confirm: New York Red Bulls finalizing signing of Jamaica int'l forward Cory Burke. The deal will be two years plus an option for 2025. @KristianRDyer first to report.Burke, 30, had 7g/5a in 1,177 mins for the Philadelphia Union last year. 25 career MLS goals. pic.twitter.com/GtQDINqMrJ— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) November 17, 2022
Makes sense when you think about it from a Union FO perspective. Do you give your third string 30 year old forward a 2+ year deal when you have Quinn Sullivan and likely two players on U2 that you want to bring up in the next couple years (one who cost at least a million dollars earlier in the year to bring in)? Burke is a different forward than any of those other players, but does he do more than all those other assets? And does he do it so much better that you risk stagnating possibly $10+ million in future assets? I'm going to say that you probably don't if you are looking at building through youth. I'd also say that it is likely that Jose Riasco gets moved into the first team to replace Burke.
Yeah, this move is line for the Union under Tanner. Burke likely wanted more money than the Union were willing to commit to for a substitute. Which, if we're being honest is likely the best spot for Burke at this stage of his career and the style he plays with. Like you said it allows the Union to get minutes for their talented young players as well. It also frees up some cap space for potential moves. It's a good move for Red Bull too, who lack goals. Not sure if Burke will get them enough to move them further up the table or help them advance in the playoffs.

Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford.#MUFC— Manchester United (@ManUtd) November 22, 2022 I kinda suspect it's not the move CR7 is looking to make in response to what has happened over the past year, but I'm sure MLS will make their case.

🔺EXCLUSIVE: Inter Miami are close to signing Lionel Messi. The deal will make the 35-year-old the highest paid player in the history of the MLShttps://t.co/g2vmg4xzSV— Times Sport (@TimesSport) November 27, 2022
Now we just need Ronaldo to sign on the west coast and we'll be set coast to coast. I wonder if Messi knows they play in a temp stadium outside of Miami...
This is why MLS is rightfully called a crappy retirement league. Why make those gimmicky signings when you could develop and play homegrowns for lower costs and actually improve the league with American talent?
1. Because you can do both. Duh. And MLS has continually done both. 2. Because the latter things cost money which this would generate 3. Because you play to win the game and Messi is still among the world's best players and Inter Miami would be a much stronger team with him 4. Because as much as this fits within a broader pattern of bringing in players to generate attention and interest in the United States, Messi is global and with Apple, MLS TV distribution is global. There are horizons beyond our shores with something like this.
Is it really fun to watch Busquets and/or Messi not caring and only playing casually for basically a paid vacation? Those past-it superstars don't want to play competitively, they just want to be the center of attention for media and fans.
"This is why MLS is rightfully called a crappy retirement league." was the point where you should have realized responding to him was pointless
