PL clubs would be pushing their players to withdraw if he wanted to use the fitness methods he used at Leeds.

Plus I’m not sure English players really enjoy playing for England enough to put up with his style of training. Argentine’s and Chileans did and England Players do enjoy playing at the Moment but I think a lot of them find it more relaxing than their clubs and we could end up with Capello era miserable squads and players trying to find reasons not to go.

Plus he has a habit of quitting after falling out with management and the FA don’t tend to like managers who would clash with them.

Seriously through it will be a fraught process replacing Southgate. No option that feels either viable or particularly popular.

He would fit in with the FA’s preferred style of manager (More than Tuchel or Rodgers would) but will they go non English/British again. Just not sure they will. Plus I’m not sure how it would go down in his home country and if talk of accepting would cause such a backlash there that he declines.

According to the Telegraph Southgate might decide to quit but the FA are desperate for him to stay and wouldn’t even be likely to sack him if we get eliminated on Tuesday. It sounds like they don’t want him to go because they hope in 2024 they could get Potter or Howe while at the moment they don’t rate any of likely contenders. (And it has never turned out well when the FA hire someone they don’t really want.)

He seems to want to stay with Canada until 2026 when they co - hosting the World Cup.

Yeah Herdman seems a very good international coach, comes across as quite arrogant and combative at time, but to be honest I think that's something we miss as a team. We're very respectful, but often overly so. Always more concerned with what teams could do to us rather than what we could do to other teams.

We wouldn't have gone so aggressive against Belgium, we'd have feared their players and what they can do with space, we wouldn't have started like this against Croatia.

Of course he is also very embedded into the Canadian system so how his work would translate elsewhere remains to be seen, and there is always a difference between managing underdogs and teams expected to win - Hodgson was a fantastic underdog manager but terrible England manager.

The FA would likely order him to tone done his off pitch arrogance and combativeness. Their would surely not be that comfortable being seen as arrogant by other nations.

FA again being reported as being desperate for Southgate not to quit. They must really not like the idea of Rodgers or Copper or Gerrard or Lampard then.

Steve Holland is a contender if Southgate goes because while many of the public (But many absolutely will not want an non English manager again) want Pochentino or Tuchel they will be pressure also to keep English. Potter and Howe are seen as unlikely.

Personally I just don’t see the FA going foreign again. The FA have always tried to appease as many as people as possible and hiring either of those wouldn’t because so many people want English only.

I find it slightly interesting Steve Holland is rarely mentioned then the day after he is reported to be a contender for the Main job we get reports claiming he had a disagreement with a player.

I think we should go English, foreign managers were not a success here and it would be an utter failure of the St georges Park project to have to go back foreign

There is not many to go from then. Howe and Potter unachievable. Gerrard, Lampard, Dyche, Scott Parker, Steve Bruce, Dean Smith all possibles I Suppose.

I can see it ending up with Dyche.

Rodgers is as foreign as I would go. Hiring an Argentinian or a German is just absurd to me.

I would find It odd and a bit embarrassing if a foreign manager would manage a football rich nation. I mean there must then be something from with the FA coaching system

Not really. The FA is not very good at producing managers.

Don't they work on coach development in their st. Park academy? I mean france has a pretty rich and good coaching development in clairefontaine.....and the St. Park is modeled after that

St. George's Park is not modelled on Clairefontaine, and Clairefontaine is a youth development centre, it doesn't produce coaches.
