A classic "We should win" match that I bet we cock up.

On a similar, but somewhat different note, I'm not at all looking forward to this WC.

Good luck in the World Cup, if you knock us out in the group stage then I hope at least that it leads to Southgate being sent packing.

That's what gets me about Gareth Southgate, over the last few tournaments we've had arguably the best squad but as soon as we come up against a good well organised team Southgate gets made to look like a draughts player in a chess tournament and we get out-played. The media won't criticise him because he likes to push all of the fashionable political messages, nice of him to make changes after 70mins of being played off the park though. Unlucky USA deserved 3 points.

    100% Agreed.

Also, some of my English friends here in the states pretty much agreed with you as well on Southgate.

Wednesday have come from behind to beat Mansfield Town 2-1 in the second round of the FA Cup. Two late goals from Michael Smith send them through. From the comments I've read, Wednesday were awful in the first half and lucky to still be in it at halftime. Moore's selections have folks scratching their heads every week, it seems. I don't see them enough to have an opinion on Moore's selections/tactics, but the results are there, aren't they?

Anyway, the third round draw is Monday night (afternoon in the US), and now the competition gets real as Prem & Championship clubs come into it. I've been saying for yonks that if Wednesday draw Spurs home or away in the Cup, I'd go over. But with my work schedule now, there's no way I can get the time off.

... so now it'll happen. Ok, probably not, but I'd still love it if they did. Spurs at Hillsborough would be brill.

They actually did draw each other a few years back in one of the Cups, but it was contingent upon one of them (Spurs, I think) winning a replay from the round prior, and they failed to do so. Naturally.

Looking forward to the draw. I love the Cup, me.

@pookspur - Is the FA Cup that WEdnesday in the same as the one Dumbarton FC are in? Is there. Scottish FA Cup that is seperate from the English one?

I ask because I noticed that The Sons are in round 3 and Wednesday are in round 2...

stupid question? Probably. Am I embarrassed to ask? Of course not.

Dumbarton are in the Scottish FA. Wednesday are in the English FA. Different associations, different tournaments.

Big one, the Derby match. Wednesday haven't won at Pride Park since 2006, though they've earned a few draws recently. Warne has them moving up the table and I'd think this a tough one for Wednesday to take all the points in. Should they, however, they will go top of the table, if only because both Plymouth and Ipswich are idle this weekend.

A draw will be a decent result, I'd think, but they're playing well and you'd really like to see them go for it. Gregory and Ihiekwe both questionable, as I understand it, and that won't help. Still, make a fist of it, Darren.

I should be off work tomorrow, but a 7:30 (my time) kickoff means I won't be watching/monitoring. USA/Netherlands at 10am sounds a bit more palatable to me.

Have you got any football apps on your phone?

I recommend Fotmob ... you can watch the USA match and check up on Wednesday on the app...

When posting earlier, I hadn't realized that Plymouth and Ipswich were both playing tonight. But the post still stands - Wednesday will go top with a win, because Plymouth lost and Ipswich gave up a late equalizer to Fleetwood! So even though a win may be a big ask, dropping points won't mean losing ground.

But, crikey, this would sure be a good time to turn it around at Derby.

Wednesday have had some bad results at Exeter within recent memory. It's a long way down to Devon (or Cornwall, or wherever the hell it is down southwest), and Wednesday fans come back proper grumpy when it doesn't go well.

With Exeter mid-table and Wednesday playing some decent stuff at the sharp end, you'd want to take all three points, but I won't be at all shocked if they come out of it with less. Derby and Exeter away back-to-back are tough fixtures, and to come away with four points from those won't be too bad. Only two, though, and it'll have been a slightly disappointing couple of weeks, I'd say.

0-0 at home to Oxford. And from the sound of things, another performance no better than the result. Bannan didn't play and apparently the midfield had nothing.

Good news is that Ipswich lost, but Plymouth won, and the upshot is that you just can't say it's been a good last couple weeks. This is the time of year that Wednesday really started to get their shit together last year, and anything similar this season will see them stroll to automatic promotion. It doesn't appear to be happening yet, though, does it?
