Ironically I saw D10 play in the previous round. That game had three reds overall I believe. https://thecup.us/2022/11/20/2023-u...n-with-d10-lions-players-as-dfeeters-advance/
Generally speaking, is spitting at the ref always grounds for abandoning a match? I certainly don't mind if it is. Just wondering if that's a hard-and-fast rule. I don't see anything specific in the LOTG.
Totally at the discretion of the referee. However, given the number of cards already accumulated by the losing team, I completely understand the decision.
From the article: “The opposing team were getting abusive physically and verbally with [the referees], so they left for their safety,” said D’Feeters head coach Edgar Hernandez. He added that the center official “wasn’t even calling the game poorly” in his opinion.

At the same time, the referee didn't seem like he was doing much to manage the situation other than pull out cards and point at players. The 2nd goal (about 24:30) was interesting with the keeper picking up the ball outside the PA (to the side) and then tossing the ball back to the other team for the free kick while he was still out of goal resulting in a quick retake and easy tap in.
I’ve got no issue with the 2nd goal. The kicking team was already delayed when the keeper walked away with the ball to begin with. Serves them right.
Lol a few weeks ago I was offered to be match commissioner for a USOC match. I was glad to be out of town so I couldn’t do it- I mean I have no qualifications other than being a referee and being oldish enough that people think I know what I’m doing.
I don't remember what I was paid for being MC on Dynamo vs RGV. I had to earn my keep though because RGV started a player that was listed as reserve. That means the listed starter can't play, however, the ROC don't spell it out that way. So I had to call Chicago to get an official ruling then be the bad guy to say one of the 7 reserves they brought couldn't play. As AR1, I can confirm that. They had a red to their keeper for handling DOGSO outside the PA and a red for VC, throwing an elbow off the ball into someone's face, before the opponent got a 2CT. They were jerks and we played ~9 minutes of stoppage while they were winning in the second half because of all of the shenanigans and time wasting. I totally see them as a team that devolves into forgetting that they are there to play soccer if things aren't going well for them. I'm glad the field for the league they play in is ~90 minutes away so I'm not tempted to work it.
