On that note, my suggestion to Todd was we have a World Series of Soccer.

Premiership All Stars vs MLS [insert name, not sure what to call them].

The game will be played in a brand new stadium in a different middle east country every July. Standard tickets cost $5,000. $10,000 if you want air-conditioning.

Winners are crowned soccer champions of the Universe. Losers do dishes for Doris.

very interesting ..... let the speculation continue ....

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/63679055

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has confirmed the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), are looking at selling the Reds.

FSG recently said it "would consider new shareholders" amid reports it had put the Merseysiders up for sale. "We're exploring a sale, but there's no urgency, no time frame for us, and as far as I'm concerned, it's business as usual," Werner told the Boston Globe. "One outcome could be our continued stewardship for quite a while."

Manchester United believe their global fanbase will lure potential Liverpool buyers to Old Trafford.

Perhaps but then their aging decrepit stadium may drive them away again.

I've seen reports that it'd take a billion quid to fix the place up.

    oh ffs ... NO!!!!!

Saudi Arabia's sports minister says its government would "definitely support" private sector Saudi bids for Manchester United and Liverpool.

    and again .... NO !!!!

The state is in the running to host the women's and men's Asian Cup in 2026 and 2027 respectively and, if the bids are successful, he believes it will "for sure" increase the chance of Saudi bidding for the World Cup.

"Why not? Who wouldn't want to host the World Cup?" he added.

By ALEX MILLER FOR THE MAIL ON SUNDAY
    PUBLISHED: 00:55, 27 November 2022 | UPDATED: 01:17, 27 November 2022

Liverpool have held discussions with two Middle East-based consortiums over a £3billion takeover.

The Mail on Sunday has learned that representatives of consortiums from Saudi Arabia and Qatar have expressed an interest in buying the club.

Several sources report that consortium officials have approached Fenway Sports Group director Mike Gordon - the man responsible for the sale of Liverpool - to register their interest.

It is understood both groups are private companies rather than state-owned.

However both consortiums are thought to have close links with their country’s ruling families.

Saudi Arabia’s Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal this week encouraged takeover bids for both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Both clubs have been exploring potential sales options over the past month.

He said: ‘From the private sector, I can’t speak on their behalf, but there is a lot of interest and appetite and there’s a lot of passion about football.

‘We will definitely support it if any [Saudi] private sector comes in, because we know that’s going to reflect positively on sports within the kingdom.’

The kingdom’s state-backed Public Investment Fund (PIF) have already acquired Newcastle United.

Liverpool are also in discussions with a US-based buyer, while Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe and tech-giants Apple have been linked with United bids.

I think pretty much any potential buyer who has the billions in cash required to buy Liverpool is unlikely to be of the type of character we'd want as our owners.

Definitely. In fact it's hard to imagine a scenario where someone could accumulate enough wealth to be a viable owner of our club, yet remain appealing to some sort of ethical, moral or political ethos that seems to resonate with the club's core supporters.

I wonder if an ESL-type economic model will start to look a bit more acceptable to those supporters, at least long-term.

Guys, my daddy has Oil wells !!!

: ) On a serious note tho, that would take 4 clubs to the Shiek money in the PL alone. Footballers get paid millions just to kick a football, kind of senseless if you think about it. Its like all the pretensions with art, where the nueveau are buying up names for the sake of it. well, at least you'll be able to afford Bellingham now, I personally don't think he is worth that kind of paper, but hey...

Also seems like Klopp is kicking out the recruiting staff as a power grab behind the scenes, no way Julian Ward leaves after just 6 months in charge if there weren't serious strenuations.

Wouldn't be surprised if Jurgen and Pep are using it as a way to exert more control. Not sure it was all that necessary given Ward was new to the job and unlikely to have much power. Maybe he wanted less concentration on Portuguese speaking players.
