He played left back some in 2021 and all last season. Definitely not the position he played when he entered MLS as a DP.
So, was this a classic Beasley/Zusi situation, then? IIRC, Santos is pretty much footy-dextrous and plays both sides. If we don't re-sign OA, this gives us 5 outside backs, assuming that's where we'd play Santos, which I don't think is a given. Our offensive midfield, inside and out, is not particularly notable. Santos could feature there, at least from time to time. He covers a lot of bases.
Liar! It’s finally out. Congrats to Garth and @ATLUTD for the right hire. #MLS https://t.co/NGWLw6Pa1j— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) November 22, 2022 Whoever asked their god to send him to United needs to be more damned specific next time
This was just from last week! Garth IN. pic.twitter.com/mJMuzYngCs— Seattle Sounders FC (@SoundersFC) November 17, 2022 I guess a lot can change in the span of a few days.
DC gets $50k more 2023 GAM and swaps second stage re-entry draft places with New England today. DC didn't take anyone again in the draft, so getting $100k GAM for picks they weren't going to use anyway is pretty good business by Kasper and co.
1st to 9th. But as I said in my edited post above, they didn't take anyone, so getting $100k GAM for two picks they weren't going to use anyway is not bad business.
What is bad business is that two teams better than DC see value in selecting players in these drafts, and aren't afraid to spend, modestly, to do it.
I'd disagree with that. Keeping Djeffal around (which is who Austin took last round) would have required going out and getting an international roster spot - that's gonna be at least $200k GAM, if not more. Is Djeffal worth his salary + that much GAM? I don't think so. As for the 2nd stage, no one who was selected is better than Pedro Santos, who DC already acquired as a free agent. Why waste a pick on someone you don't want who you then *have* to make an offer to when you can get GAM instead?
Every single sports "journalist" in existence - and unfortunately way too many current "political journalists" - but that's a totally different problem; sports has always been covered that way.
Miller was arguably the best goalie in MLS three years ago. I'm not sure what happened in LAFC that cost him his position. He's only 29. If there was a capable defense in front of him, he could be a great addition.
He totally should of had that angled covered! See, I can pick up the slack on rampant and unnecessary and unwarranted negativity, if I have to...
Sight unseen for this season but I'm seeing some positives in these signings. Maybe not make the playoffs but above the wooden spoon guaranteed spot... I would settle for a season of mid-table mediocrity after the last few years...
