@gauchodan - Thanks again for taking your time and doing these daily updates all season. It's much appreciated.
Sure, just wondering how 7 unseeded in the sweet 16 compares historically (and too lazy to research it myself!)
I hate to single out the GK when the whole defense made mistakes, but UCLA’s GK Crockford really did poorly on Vermont’s two goals to make it 2-0 with 15 or so minutes to go. The first one he didn’t even react and the second was perfectly set up for a dive to his right and he inexplicably tried to stay on his feet and shuffle over for it. He’s a good GK and certainly made some great saves in the first half, but those two were head scratchers.
Saturday's results Vermont 3, UCLA 0 -- UCLA eliminated Creighton 2, (15) Tulsa 1 -- Tulsa eliminated Portland 1, Western Michigan 0 -- Western Michigan eliminated
The Duke-FIU match has been postponed from 1p to 3p today. I surmise that Duke didn't want FIU to have any advantage of playing in a rain storm after surving in similar conditions against NH.
Opinions on the Tulsa penalty call? 1:40 in the video: https://www.ncaa.com/video/soccer-men/2022-11-26/late-second-half-pk-pushes-creighton-past-tulsa-2-1
It's 2:42pm EST. Here's the ESPN+ feed for the Syracuse game: #14 CORNELL VS. #3 SYRACUSE (THIRD ROUND) -- Sunday, November 27 at 2:00 PM --This event has not yet started.
OK, you guys are all far more expert than me, but: it looked to me like the GK got to the ball first, punched it away, and then the Creighton forward tripped over him.
In the Pitt-KY match, I thought a yellow card not a red card was appropriate for the Pitt MF. IMO, the Pitt player lost his feet and slid into the player in atrocious conditions. Then again, Jacqueson (sp) hit a pretty shot with little pressure on him [EDIT] in the final minutes...
Sunday's results (3) Syracuse 1, (14) Cornell 0 -- Cornell eliminated (7) Duke 1, (10) FIU 0 -- FIU eliminated Pittsburgh 2, (1) Kentucky 1 -- Kentucky eliminated (13) Indiana 1, Marshall 0 -- Marshall eliminated (12) UNCG 1, (5) Stanford 1 (SO, UNCG wins shootout) -- Stanford eliminated
Don't disagree. Vermont played well and deserved the win, but the whole UCLA team was exhausted, including Crockford. Two cross country flights in a week and most of the team had a rough stomach bug for the days in between so they were unable to practice. Combine that with a coach who has a weirdly short rotation for college soccer and inexplicably refuses to play a lot of talented, Junior and Senior players, and you can see why UCLA, who'd dominated much of the first half, clearly ran out of gas in the second.
