From his Fox rambling “I want to be prez again. My bank account is down. Quote from JohnR “1) Said the U.S. left $85 billion of equipment in Afghanistan. The actual figure is $7 billion. 2) Said he was the first President ever to level tariffs on China. The U.S. has had Chinese tariffs for 200 years. 3) Made that nutty statement about ocean levels. 4) Said that Obama also took Presidential records that he was supposed to leave behind. A complete and utter lie. 5) Said the Mexican border wall is finished. Ha! 6) Said that he sent the National Guard to Minnesota against the governor's objection. The governor requested the Guard. 7) Said that Biden confused Idaho with Florida. A lie, that never happened. 8) Said that 10 million undocumented aliens have enterered the U.S. from Mexico under Biden. A complete invention. 9) Said that turkey prices are "three to four times" higher than last year. They are 10% higher. 10) Said that he went "decades without a war." Drool. 11) Said that he got rid of the 60-year old bombers in the military. False. They are still there. 12) Said that he won the vote in all the areas that border Mexico. Not even close to being true.”
It might be because he knows it's bullshit to drum up the clapping seals that say shit like... Stupid is as stupid does, indeed...
You know one thing that we all easily forget is that in the purest form in which these elected officials were imagined by the constitutional writers is that the "actual" role of these elected officials is to be "a servant" of the people who elect them. This means that they should enact the will of the populace of the state, or congressional district, that actually elected them. There was always the intention that these elected officials would be able to exercise good judgement and wisdom in carrying out these duties, but this basic concept of what it means to be a "public servant" has really been lost in modern politics. I think in these modern times we too often view, and elect, our congresspeople and senators based on who they are rather than whether they will represent their constituencies with good faith and appropriate wisdom and foresight. In this case, like it was when Liz Cheney politically disowned her own sister, McConnell has caved to the political calculus of his constituency... In a truly honest world these people would disown their constituencies and refuse to represent views that they do not likely believe. But as is all too clear, honor in our current politicians is almost completely absent. Worse even, often they only abandon their wisdom and good judgement when it benefits them politically. God forbid a modern politician vote against the will of their constituency for their own good!
Well, they have a stereotype to defend after all. How difficult is it in this Republican Party to stand up and say “I’m against any ban on gay or interracial marriage”? Extraordinarily so, it would appear. Now, next question, to exactly what constituency do they believe they are pandering or supporting by opposing a ban on interracial marriage? Are there some extra votes out there they think they are not getting, but a vote against gay and interracial marriage here gets them?
I was thinking we've been in dire straits here with world politics and the economy; that got me to remembering Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler's genius. So, here is John Illsley's (original DS bassist) re-make of Sultans of Swing. Robbie McIntosh doing a great Knopfler imitation and John's daughter DeeDee covering the background vocals. The arl git can still rock.
John Illsley has a great live album with traditional Irish group Cúnla and Greg Pearle Live in Les Baux De Provence. If you like him and Dire Straits, it’s a great listen.

So the invasion of Ukraine is perhaps not going so well for Putin, and his supporters and allies are finding it increasingly difficult to justify and support the state of play. But there’s always a silver lining. The mothers who have sons who were killed in Ukraine have been gifted, by the Russian state…a set of towels. So thoughtful. I can’t wait for Tucker Carlson to hammer Biden for not also giving towels to the mothers of the January 6th attempted coup d’etat.
Joe Biden sided with the railroad owners and snubbed the workers today once again proving for the umpteenth time that calling him a socialist or a radical leftist is utterly absurd. He has always been a center-right politician and today he put profits over people.
Always has been, always will be. The notion that the Democrats are somehow a left wing party would get laughed out of the voting booth in pretty much all of Europe. But, compared to the Republicans, well…
Few things on this planet do I detest more than rats...... (Trump, of course) but the list is short....
The European Union has reportedly threatened to ban Twitter unless Elon Musk abides by its strict content moderation rules. The warning, which has been reported by The Financial Times, could be the start of a regulatory battle over the future of the social media platform across Europe.
