Number of viewers [in US] on TV for the soccer finals this year, according to
    @Nielsen

    5,361m - UCL (CBS/Univ)
    2,495m - LMX AL2 (Univ)
    2,155m - MLS (FOX/Univ)
    2,137m - LMX AL1 (Univ)
    0,915m - NWSL (CBS)

#MLS multiplied 2.3x to #NWSL and was in the range of #LigaMX. Very good.

I wouldn't say that the NHL has declined in popularity so much as it is much more of a local market sport at this juncture. The NHL also has a very good combined media rights deal currently.

How many kids are playing it and how much media play does it get vs how much $$$ those players are earning?

t's on TNT and ESPN 3-4 nights a week. Once the NFL season has concluded it will also be shown on ABC on weekends. The combined deal is worth north of $600M/year. With Turner paying $225M annually and ESPN paying $400M annually.

    According to USA Hockey:

In 2021-2022: 547K which is an increase of ~100K from the year prior.

The NHL is not declining in popularity. The average revenue for an NHL team has more than doubled from 2005-2019, from $75 million to $164 million.

Just wait until we host it in 2026.

Records will be shattered both ratings wise and attendance wise.

    Ratings for the US-England game:

    https://deadline.com/2022/11/world-cup-ratings-usa-vs-england-fox-telemundo-1235182094/

The United States went head-to-head with England on Friday in a historic World Cup match that drew 15.4M viewers for Fox.

The current record holder is still the USA’s 2-2 draw against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in 2014, which was watched by 24.7M people.

Another 4.6M tuned in via Telemundo Deportes’ Spanish-language coverage of the match on Telemundo, Peacock and digital platforms. That’s the second most-watched World Cup Group Stage Match featuring a U.S. team in Spanish-language history — up 33% for the U.S.’ first match against Wales.

Yesterday, S&P 500 trading fell below its 10-day average as investors ditched their Bloomberg Terminals for a soccer match.

This has happened before. When the USMNT was playing in the 2010 World Cup, US equities trading plunged 43%.

If I did my arithmetic right, there are 56 games through the quarterfinals of the WC.

There are 67 (?) for the NCAA tournament in total? So, yeah, pretty good.

If USSF wants to grow the game even more then they need to probably not have so many matches on subscription streaming services. I mean, I have Paramount+ but it's pretty ridiculous you can't turn on one of MANY sports channels that are part of nearly every cable package to watch the matches.

I mean I suppose UNI is part of most, and I actually enjoy the spanish broadcasts, but the average kid can't just be flipping channels and watch a match.
