At least she's doing journalism rather than just... well, you know.

I think she deserves a bit of slack here, given this:

I agree. I appreciated the two assistant call outs because I literally didn't think of either of them. The rest are a little obvious but thats true for this group but probably not the average dispatch sports reader. She is trying and cares about doing a good job

That resume doesn't scream "future Crew head coach". 13-35-10 isn't a good record at any level.

There are several candidates in Johnson's article who would be clear upgrades from Porter. Nancy would be a great addition if we can get him.

This is the answer to @Bill Archer question as well. I think Frank Yallop technically counts as a foreign manager too! :)

Sigi moved to California as a child and never coached a day anywhere except the US. We're not talking about birth certificates here.

He is 32 so he was 30 not ideal or young gorba winger to be signed to a 3 year deal at that age. If he never had injuries maybe but this guy is hurt every other year.

Everyone offered a 1 yr deal so you tell him that’s the best you can do is 2 years (with a team option so we can get rid of him if he isn’t healthy )

but instead we gave him 3x better offer to start for a team off a mls cup . We went all in on a often injured 30 yr old winger and we desperately needed winger production but if your hurt you can’t help. We all know what happened he got hurt ( the irony !)

Can you add anything new or are you going to continue to regurgitate the same, tired arguments over and over again?

We have argued the Molino thing a month ago. Where is your source saying that everyone else offered him only a one year deal?

The Athletic has this quote from Minnesota's manager.
    Screenshot_20221012-193125_The Athletic.jpg

Either way, yes we agree the Molino signing looks bad now. At the time everyone here and in the media (who are more privy to the contract details than we are) raved about the signing even with the injury history.

Molino and Bez are staying. It's over.

One facet of the Porter era that we tend to forget is that Bez really wasn't the one who hired him. The bigshots in Cleveland did, announcing both hires at the same time. And in fact Porter may have been hired first.

But with Bez seemingly running the process this time around, it changes the dynamic between coach and General Manager. The new guy will be more beholden to his boss and the boss in turn may need the new.coach to do well in order to keep his own job.

And while it's probably inappropriate to say this - I never know, truly - the Haslem organization in general is very very big on diversity hiring. Very big. That may play a role in this whole deal.

The Scotsman, and former Liverpool legend, Steve Nichol may not have won an MLS cup, but his NE Revs were in the final four times and in the Eastern Conf. Final 6 times. He had a very good 10 year run coaching the Revs with his trusty assistant Paul Mariner. How many other MLS head coaches have lasted 10 years at the same club? I think it's only Peter Vermes and Ben Olsen.

Adrian Heath has not won a cup either, but has been decent with Orlando and now Minnesota. He is in his 8th year of coaching in MLS.

He also had a habit of smacking the crap out of some very good Crew teams as I recall.

Just going to keep saying facts about how bad some of the contracts have been which is on Bez. You kept piling on Porter when everything wasn’t his fault . Porter definitely didn’t do his job well that’s a fact . It’s also a fact that Bez has not done well outside of the LZ & Cucho

there are 9 other starters and 18 other guys dressed for a game. We need to get younger and more talented. Not a good look to say we won’t likely spend big and double down on your roster saying you will keep most of the same players.

That says nothing and the max contract gives no details . I repeatedly heard multiple media say only Columbus offered him more than one year. You guys keep spinning it all you want. If the reports are wrong , I’ll still say any team who offered him a multi year deal without a option to get rid him after one was stupid.

Browns contract with Watson is stupid to 100% guarantee a contract. Ravens don’t want to give Lamar Jackson 100% and no team wants to give any player 100%. It’s just not smart business. It could work out but it’s extremely risky.

    i have concerns with Bez

i do not have concerns with Molino he is on the last year of his contract my only hope is he is healthy because he is a good player if he actually gets on the field. I still would trade him in a heartbeat if any possibility arrived to get him off the books.

I hope we just hire the best coach and not take a chance on someone for anything but their ability to coach.

Please provide one single source out of the many you apparently “repeatedly heard” about from a credible site or podcast that clearly states only Cbus offered him a contract longer than a single season.

    I’ll wait.

I don't have access to the Dispatch. Anyone want to share that list?

Even without access to the Dispatch, just reading Bailey's updates on twitter and here, it seems to me she is miles beyond any coverage we have had in years. I appreciate the humility in the above tweet though. Honestly, when people ask what is the highlight of the 2022 Columbus Crew season, the acquisition of Bailey Johnson ranks only slightly behind Cucho. And, further to her credit, at least she showed up for the last 8 games.

Bent, Courtois, Donovan, Llamosa, Fraser, Martino, Matarazzo, Nancy, Torrent.

Fraser and Nancy would just be making lateral moves, so not sure why they’d be interested.

Just can’t see Martini or Torrent coning here.

    Bent and Llamosa, no idea.

    Donovan… I’ll pass.

    Matarazzo ain’t coning to MLS.

    Courtois I can see.

    Llamosa is an interesting name.

I am higher on Fraser than you, but I don't think he should be first choice.

That said if the Truck Stop Jimmy, Sweet Dee, and Pete ownership group is as special as some would have us believe, moving out from under Kroenke Sports Group to these guys would be a bit better than lateral.

Rams and Avalanche just won championships and Arsenal looking pretty good right now. Just sayin’.

Fraser…. Just don’t know what to make of him.

Each year’s conference finish and goal differential.

    2019: 9th, -5 GD

    2020: 5th, +4 GD

    2021: 1st, +16 GD

    2022: 10th, -11 GD

Two good, two bad. That’s a big fall off this year. Lost Kaye, Bassett, Vines, and Trusty, brought is Zardes, Bryan Acosta… and not much else.

Perhaps this year’s dip can be explained away with roster moves, but I just don’t watch enough of Colorado to know for sure.
