For you mathletes out there, if Cucho kept up his pace from the last 8 games, what does he get for a season? Five goals? Four and a half? Yeah, I am cherry picking a bit, but I lean heavily towards the league figuring him out explanation. Kind of like the September call-up who hits .300 and mashes HR's until the league figures out he cannot hit a slider. Or a backup QB who has two great games until the league figures out what throws he cannot make. Is Chcho our problem? No, of course not. But him being the solution is another question entirely.
Couple roster thoughts. 1. Morris has to be a locked in starter. He brings some of the steel in the midfield that we have to have if he is next to Nagbe with Lucas in front of them. He needs to improve his passing but he needs to be on the field. 2. JRR and Farsi both need to get minutes next season. They can’t spend the year with Crew 2. The level is so bad overall that it’s not challenging for either of them. I like both of them so curious how they get integrated. 3. What is our center back pairing? Feels like something has to change there. 4. Will Room get traded or sold to someone? 5. What other side attacking player are we going to bring in Yaw was bad like really really bad. We need to add a real wide attacker.
He started out like gangbusters. Porter neutered him. Lets see what he does under a coach who wants to attack the goal instead of playing dink ball.
meh, height is overrated. In fact, I think it become detrimental once you get past about 6'1"-6'2" or so. Not to say there aren't freak athletes above that that can be excellent soccer players, but it does seem like there is a bit of a cap For example, statistically Holland is the worlds tallest country averaging and even 6' tall for males. Here are the field player heights for their UEFA Nations League (per ESPN): 6'6" 6'4" 6'3" 6'2" (x3) 6'1" 6'0" (x3) 5'11 (x4) 5'10" (x5) 5'7" Only 6/20 are above 6'. Only one of their forwards are above 6'0"
About some of our youngsters... I suspect you already know this (others may not), but Farsi, JRR and few other guys who always play for Crew 2 (Parente, Zawadsi, Schulte, J. Morris) are already on MLS contracts, on the first team roster. So as we anticipate a lot of roster change this off-season - I assume Matan, Hurtado, Hairston and some other veterans will be leaving) it certainly opens up the door for more first team playing time for at least some players who've logged a lot of Crew 2 minutes. I mean, they're already on the roster, after all. Furthermore, with Porter gone, every player should be looking in the mirror and realizing that their job is on the line. Whoever the new coach ends up being presumably won't have any history with these players. I just pray that person is committed to developing young players.
Any way you slice it the Crew simply has to get younger and faster. In 2021 the Crew had the oldest roster in MLS. In 2022 they improved to the second oldest. (and that's with guys like Erienne, Diaz, Morris and Matan) Everybody, including our own Jordan Angeli, says - out loud- what our own eyes tell us: they play slowly. Painfully slowly. The thing with the kids they put out there towards the end wasn't so much that they're all budding international superstars. It's that they ran and fought and clawed and pressed. Here's the thing, and I've said this repeatedly in the last couple years: yes of course when you send a bunch of young guys out there you sometimes get fried, sautéed and fricaseed. Look at Toronto this year. Or Chicago. But I truly believe that Columbus fans are sophisticated enough to take the lumps of there's some good reason, like working a bunch of kids into the lineup. What we can't stand any more.of is the fact that the four minutes-played leaders on this team were all over 31 (Nagbe, Santos, Mensah and Room.) Go ahead and try to convince me those guys didn't run out of gas.
We have the second fasted player in the league. Might be a good idea for our next coach to utilize that a bit more. Fastest MLS players in 2022, per Second Spectrum's top sustained speed:1. Cade Cowell, 10.18 m/s2. Luis Diaz, 10.17 m/s3. Jesus Ferreira, 10.12 m/s4. John Nelson, 10.11 m/s5. Yimmi Chara, 10.04 m/s6. Alvas Powell, 10.027. Patryk Klimala, 10.0108. Jordan Morris, 10.009— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) October 12, 2022
Ik but it was actually possible he just needed to start somewhere. But with us having Room it was impossible here in Columbus.
Seems from Bez comments he has doubled down that we have a top 4 east conf roster , i strongly disagree. He specifically mentioned we are not likely to see and signing like LZ/Cucho which tells me Nagbe stays here as a DP and thst next year is going to be a waste. We may mske the playoffs with a better coach but we won’t get far with this group unless there is a bunch of roster turnover
Porter did that to protect the defense from leaking goals the strategy had a lot to do with our roster and lack of depth . Although he was also reluctant to play some of the guys unless forced. I just think the lack of depth was in attackers
Not just over the course if the season, but within games. Especially Nagbe. He should be coming off late with us in the lead.
Caleb Porter never had any doubts. He never wondered, never waffled. From the moment the Columbus Crew head coach began scouting Lucas Zelarayán, he knew what the Argentine would be in MLS. If the club could simply sign him, they would have a star. “Excuse my French,” Porter said earlier this week, “but I just couldn’t ********ing believe how good he was.” “I brought him here to win championships, but when I brought him here he seemed to be looking for something new to stimulate him, reinvigorate him,” said Porter. https://theathletic.com/2257229/2020/12/13/lucas-zelarayan-mls-cup/?source=user_shared_article Well look at that, proof that Porter is involved in transfers. Now that TRUJDUB21 has been shown that he’s talking out of his ass, I’m sure he’ll settle down.
Yea i do . A lot of our guys are old right ? he doesn’t want to play a fast paced open game when we don’t have the legs to be successful. Would make sense to pick and choose when to press and counter otherwise hold for possession and create.
Did you not say this Bill ? What we can't stand any more.of is the fact that the four minutes-played leaders on this team were all over 31 (Nagbe, Santos, Mensah and Room.) Go ahead and try to convince me those guys didn't run out of gas.
Take Bush spot yes , but unless he thrives in his opportunities you don’t start him over Room. That’s sounds as smart as Starting MB over GZ last year
No shit Sherlock ! but he does not do contracts and you do not sign horrible contracts like Molino . You simply say we couldn’t reach an agreement instead he got bent over by Molinos agent who laughed all the way to the bank
