I like Potter but him at Chelsea has a very Moyes/United feel to it. You don’t know until you know with these small club managers. Some have the skills to play another style when they’ve never had the talent to do it before. Others try to play the way that got them the job and that just doesn’t work at big clubs with big talent.

He wants to take his staff, I would leave them.

Garbage. He will be granted a budget a big one and will join. Note he had no budget upon joining a finished squad.

Part of the problem is getting his ideas to the players without a preseason. How does he do that without a staff? Big job.

AND playing every 3 days until the WC.

What is the thought process here? Can't picture a situation where he would not want to bring his staff.

Exactly, they don't. Training will be light from now until the end of the season. This season is bonkers.

Unrelated... I just watched one of the Napoli goals where TAA absolutely mails it in. It is (and this is saying something) by FAR the worst effort I've ever seen on the pitch from any player defending. Actually pathetic. Like, we get on players when they don't do something perfect, or they don't do something well... but the truth is, at their worst, they are better than just about everyone watching. But my god. That is not what this was. This was not giving a ********.

It was so bad, I'd offer them AWB in January bad.

I think the idea is the staff that Brighton can afford is not the staff Chelsea can afford but whomever he brings in, he'll need to build a relationship with them and it will take time to get on the same page... unless he's already worked with them in the past.

If I were Chelsea, (I wouldn't have sacked Tuchel at this stage) I'd let him bring whomever he wants from Brighton on short term contracts - the rest of this season + 1 more year at generous wages. If it works out, fine, if not, hire the right staff and send these on gardening leave.

Too much turnover for players, also smaller clubs staff are not using to handle big club players.

They have a few issues but Trent doing the “can’t be arsed to track” on one-twos then walking back is a familiar look to what some of our defenders were doing.

Think they are also missing Matip who clearly did a better job of keeping TAA in check. TAA / Gomez on their right-side is killing them.

Midfield has been weak for them too with injuries. Means the pressure on the ball is also not right which is killing their high-line (which refuses to drop off when required).

Add to that a manager who only knows how to play one way and won’t adjust tactics for the deficiencies in his starting eleven. Plus won’t drop some players (ahem Trent).

    Loving it :)

Trent 20 years ago would have been a midfielder like Beckham. He was unlucky not to have gotten an assist yesterday; Salah miscontrolled the ball with only the keeper to beat.

He's not a bad defender, but it's not a strength of his to defend. When we played them, I don't think EtH looked at him and thought, 'he'll make mistakes and we'll score.' He thought, 'I need to pin this guy back and keep him occupied defensively because what he has to offer in attack is one of Liverpool's key threats.' Even Kvara didn't try to go at him directly and beat him much. Most of Napoli's attacks came down Robertson's flank and that left Trent having to track and mark players inside his box rather getting on the front foot more and helping Salah have a run at Napoli's defense. Salah was very poor last night. Nothing was clicking for him.

So, it's looking like Potter will ask. It's going to be a huge, huge ask of his talents.

How patient will Boehly be if they can't get top 4 this season?

Not a royalist at all - understand it will make some folks sad, but this extended mourning (heard 12 days “official” mourning) stuff forced on people is wrong.

Have to wait to see what that means in practice in terms of cancelled events.

TV already wall-to-wall - at least these days there is still streaming :)

Plus at least Eriksen finally gets a rest ;)
