Probably has to do with length of contracts.

ESPN dropped US Soccer, Euros, going to downgrade MLS... they're getting out of the soccer business. Kinda sad. They were the only major ones who were broadcasting it for a while.

Perhaps they are asking too much money for US broadcasting rights.

EDIT: I might be wrong but I think the EPL handle all their foreign broadcasting rights directly and don't use a third party. Eredivisie is probably too small for this but they need to recognize that IMG is not doing them any favors by not getting a US broadcast partner. Huge opportunity lost!!

Paramount+ is carrying a lot of footie now. For example, they carry the Argentine league, the Brazilian league, Serie A (Italy), and a few matches from the Scottish Premier League. (Going to watch the Edinburgh derby tomorrow morning in lieu of no Feyenoord match.)

I wish that IMG would realize some money is better than no money. The USA is a large market despite being inundated with sporting events. ESPN+ keeps adding stuff that is dodgy. Northwoods summer baseball? Little League baseball games? Every women's soccer match under the sun?

three VAR decisions and Ajax got two of them which were two of the three goals in the 2nd half. A great free kick from Burak Yilmaz made it 2-3 but Ajax scrambled the ball away every time it got close to Pasveer's goal. Brobbey ended up with the match winner. Any thoughts of moving Blind into the MF were ended with this match (I hope) as he is just too slow and cannot defend the position.

    Player Ratings:

Pasveer (6) - no chance on either goal but did not have a save to make and his kicking was sub-par
Rensch (5.5) - had some nice runs and got the 2nd goal but he was easily beaten by slower players, a disappointing match
    Timber (6) - decent enough
Schuurs (5.5) - partly responsible for the first goal from Fortuna along with Blind and subbed off at half time; could be his last match in an Ajax shirt
Wijndal (6) - OK match but nothing special
Blind (4.5) - bad in the MF and better at CB in the 2nd half
Taylor (6.5) - one of the better players on the field with some good quickness, runs and passing
Berghuis (4) - undistinguished to be charitable
Antony (5) - aimless cross after aimless cross but did track back and defend
Tadic (5.5) - I don't think he is an automatic starter anymore and Brobbey was much more dangerous as a striker
Bergwijn (6) - had a nice goal called by by VAR
Brobbey (6) - had the match winner but should have had another goal when he had the ball inside the box but his feet got tangled up
Klaassen (6) - worked really hard as always and was the recipient of a nice cross in for the first goal
Magallan (NR) - on for Rensch late and didn't have much to do
Kudus (NR) - very late sub

Schreuder still has a lot to sort out. Alvarez is back next week and Bassey the week after. Groningen up next weekend.

If I were the head of the Eredivisie, I would have the head of IMG on the phone right now and read him/her the riot act. It's really unacceptable for the firm that is given the responsibility for foreign rights to forsake a huge media market in the US. Eredivisie matches are really fun to watch and even the mighty teams struggle against lower table clubs.

Honestly I would bet a few hundred people watch most Eredivisie matches on ESPN+. Most companies right now are trying to cut costs -- no matter the sector. I get why they don't renew the Eredivisie. I'm hopeful Peacock, Paramount+, someone will pick it up.

Little League games are part of the LLWS package. Those rate really well. Women's soccer I don't really know.

The truth is unless Ajax/PSV/Feyenoord start to buy and play some legit American talents, no one will follow the league in the US. I wish Ajax would have been in on Aaronson-- he would awesome for Ajax. I think Tyler Adams would have been great too as a RB and/or DM.

Really? Who is getting the Euro’s?
ESPN has done a good job over the years.

ESPN has plenty of trash on. Absolutely no reason not to have more football availability in my opinion.
I remember when Ajax had John O’ Brien who was okay, but nothing special.
Ajax international scouting has had some pretty good players over the years, but I’m guessing there’s been nothing of interest from the US that’s been worthwhile plain and simple.
I thought PSV has had a couple of Americans recently but their names escape me. Midfielder and Defender I believe.
The media here overhypes and certainly overrates the American players terribly.
It’s over the top and just awkward from Paramount Plus and NBC, but nothing is worse then Fox.

  13. Actually I like Ledezma as a player at PSV. He's technically good and reads the game well. He has been unfortunate to have been out for a long time with a knee injury, just at the moment he was geting time in the first team.

FOX which means it'll suck. ESPN was incredible on WC + Euros + US WCQs... now they've got nothing. Stinks.

I agree media / fans overhype Americans. Some of the posts in YA forums are delusional about US players. But I think there a few Ajax quality right now which I couldn't have said a few years ago.

Anyone watch Man U today? I was curious how Martinez/ten Hag would be...

I thought the quality of the team is awful. Eriksen as a false 9 was interesting-- not sure they had many other options. Martinez was pretty solid outside of the YC and he probably should have given up a PK.

They desperately need de Jong. He would change their entire club because the current CMs (unfortunately including Donny) just aren't good enough. I also think Ziyech would really help them.

OK guys, no more posts about things other than Ajax. there are lots of places to discuss ManU but this thread is not one of them. We've also discussed the lack of a US carrier for Eredivisie matches so we don't need to hear any more about that either.

KEEP TO AJAX STUFF. OTHER POSTS WILL BE DELETED.

    thanks, O-14

There has been a lot posted today in various Ajax forums. I suspect his career is over. There is supposed to be a meeting with him this week and Ajax want him to work with a psychologist but he does not think it is necessary. He was not assigned a number when the announced things last week which was not a good sign. As someone posted over on the Ajax Reddit page, how long can it take for a 20 year old to get in shape. I saw him play in a couple of the early friendlies and he looked OK. I suspect that Ajax made the deal for the Portuguese winger because they were not certain about Ihattaren. It's a sad story.

Supposedly he leant out his car to some organized crime figure. The police had him under surveillance, and when the criminal found out about he lit the car on fire to destroy all evidence.

Rumor has it was an Ajax issued car

Caught the 2nd half of the Jong Ajax - Telstar match this afternoon. Ended up at 1-1 with Concelcao getting the Ajax goal. He is really fast and was constantly beating his defender. Telstar was doing a lot of grabbing and pushing as Jong Ajax were too quick. I think Perie will stay with the team as a sub on the back line. He's really good on the ball but still has issues defending.
    Line up and subs:

Kremers; Gooijer (Aertssen 66'), Warmerdam (Jermoumi 46'), Pierie, Baas; Regeer, Fitz-Jim, Hlynsson (Vos 80'); Conceição (Martha 80'), Rasmussen, Hansen (Van Axel Dongen 62').

Kudos to Ajax for selling Martinez to ManUre for a pile of money. He was in central defense today when Brentford hit MU for 4 goals in a 35-minute span in the first half. The little Argentine was subbed off at half time, and MU conceded no goals after that.

ManUre are now bottom of the table. Made my day!

EDIT by O-14 - Martinez is from Argentina so I changed it.
