From CM's like Oberdorf, Lattwein, Nüsken, Lohmann, Feldkamp, all being used in defense, to Marozsan being a DM, or someone like Krumbiegel appearing absolutely lost among the seniors for numerous games... if MVT reverts back to doing anything like this again, after establishing the foundations of a Euro winning side, I honestly feel like the her coaches and players would openly revolt lol.
Magull in one tournament, might have eclipsed Marozsan's entire tournament career with the senior team... It should be said, Marozsan's biggest moments were also part of tournament winning teams; peaking with her 2013 semi final goal Vs Sweden, and her beautiful finish in the 2016 Olympic final Vs Sweden again. But a consistent run of form has simply not been there for a player who's constantly rated as one of the worlds best creative talents in women's football...
Lets see how Marozsan will look when she returns to be part of a wnt with a genuine system of play again. But I don't feel she's better than Magull in the CAM role, instead seeing her a direct replacement for MVT's CAM back up role filled by Dallmann during the Euro's. I mean, does anyone actually believe Marozsan will continue playing ahead of Oberdorf in CM anymore..? While I also see Lohmann, Lattwein, Nüsken, all being superior CM options over Däbritz, Marozsan, or Leupolz, come the WC too... Germany having Oberdorf and Magull appearing elite, I see Lattwein, Lohmann, Nüsken, next in line to show what they can do now; and without genuinely world class performances from Marozsan, Däbritz, Leupolz, many should only consider it a step backwards to see any seniority allow anyone to walk back into the side come the WC.
Popp is the leader and best player upfront. MVT knows it and I bet deep-down Schuller does too. Magull has to play. She was fantastic and Marozsan coming from the bench would be perfect. She still has that magical unpredictability in her that you can`t learn and in a tournament that could be a factor late in games.
Totally forgot all the details from that tournament. I think I was still suffering from the prior tournament. PTSD: Post-traumatic Steffi Jones disorder. But jokes aside...makes the Popp-Marozsan drama even worse.
The more I look at the handball, the funnier it gets. https://www.kapwing.com/videos/62ec29c98d976f00b626320c https://www.kapwing.com/videos/62ec37ccfe140000703a6ff3 https://www.kapwing.com/videos/62ec3b5ee77f44006cdd99bb
on this possibly official site, it has something "landenspiele in den USA" for N0V 16, but it doesn't say directly vs the USA https://www.dfb.de/frauen-nationalmannschaft/spiele-termine/termine/ actually a good time to play us since we're currently missing 5 of our best starters. We're taking on England at Wembley in October(hopefully we affford or out bribe the refs! lol)
The only other Top nation in CONCACAF is Canada. Germany will not travel to America for games against Jamaica or Costa Rica.
complicating things there’s no information/or posted schedule on the official US soccer fed site. Saw that Germany got back their #2 ranking, so maybe MVT wants to go for the gusto & pick up #1 while the US is so vulnerable?(while the US missing 5 key starters).
I've always known Popp's general play with the ball superior to Schüller, but like I thought it would be... it was still mainly complete chance that played the biggest role in MVT fully accepting Popp as her #1 forward for these Euro's... As we shouldn't forget, Schüller still producing one of the best scoring rates of any European forward in Popp's absence, while Waßmuth's club from last season showcasing potentially elite scoring traits too; Popp simply being selected for this Euro's squad, a potential point of contention given the nature of her return for Wolfsburg, only seeing her being a second choice CM option... It's crazy to think Popp would be so good at these Euro's, only using recent club form to assess her progress. But here we are... discussing the qualities of Popp, knowing she was likely only a smooth warm up away from potentially being given tournaments MVP/scoring titles lol.
If Magull can stop overdoing things (taking too many touches), and try to focus on releasing the ball quicker, she'll be an even better player for this team come the WC. I often felt Magull, and Däbritz, appearing dangerous, but without ever really doing enough in the area of assisting their forwards. As we saw over and over again at these Euro's, if Magull as the CAM not performing to a standard you'd expect, she was basically irreplaceable in a side only a truly ineffectual Dallmann MVT's main option to replace her. And this where Marozsan could be perfect come the WC. Scoring, and assisting as a world class CAM for a long time now, but never having produced a tournament performance like Magull, Marozsan's role would appear perfect as a joker for what could be her final senior wnt tournament...
I don't know about this being funny, considering the VAR team will have 100% seen this with the same/better angles, and didn't even think the ref should take a look at the incident... I'd repeat the fates clearly already decided it didn't want anything but an English win for this tournament... but the fates have nothing to do with a team of video officials being completely incompetent, when we all know this ever happened inside Germany's PK box, we'd see no hesitation from the same VAR team bringing this to the attention of the on field officials...
Ughhhh... what is this, lol...? You honestly believe the USwnt facing England at Wembley some form of early measurement of WWC credentials...? MVT saw awful team performances peak in a WC qualifier defeat to Serbia in April, before going on to feel unlucky, and highly indignant, losing a Euro final come the end of July lol... Yeah.. this sound reasonable lol. If the idea of WUCL clubs allowing their players to take part in a pleasant mid season excursion to the US (for one match) didn't already seem asinine, then doing so for the prestige of FIFA ranking points appears straight up...
coaches can be very egotistical, Vlatko(US coach) trying to make a statement that he can beat England at Wembley when no one else can. France’s Diacre reminds me of Jones post 2017 Euros where she needed an desperate big win to retain her job(thus she took on arch nemesis France). MVT canceled the previous trip to the US back last year in June even though it would of been an better time since the season was over. Now she feels way more prepared that she can taken them on, You yourself made a big deal about Germany’s temp downfall in the rankings from #2 to #5(so don’t tell me it’s all of an sudden unimportant). The DFB website clearly says their coming over for an “Landenspiel den USA” on Nov 16, the only question is who their playing?
Definitely feel there’s an behind-the-scenes politics that keeps Wiegman from not rocking the boat just let & stuck picking Man City players(10 of them) compared to only 3 from Man U, even though they keep finishing an close 3rd & 4th place in league standings(these are the two best, English player dominated clubs). Not picked from Man U were winger Galton(8 goals, 5 assists) CM Zelem(5 goals 5 assists) & the two Turner’s Amy & Mia at CB. Williamson was CM in 2of the 3 warmup games & very dominate in their excellent 5-1 over an them full Dutch squad. I guess Wiegman lost confidence in what she had(Greenwood Carter or Wubben-Moy) and decided to go back to Williamson to CB for security. There’s a few other non picks that are making waves for the English like wingers J Park & E Salmon(but then they got enough wingers already considering they turned Kirby into an AM. Fair to say though, Wiegman ala previously ring Netherlands didn’t use some of her subs at all in this tourney(Stokes Carter, Beth E) but sooner or later she would have to put some of t E he poor performing old guard to rest(especially White Scott Greenwood Stokes) though with their new crown, probably got to wait till after the WC
Seeing all the assistance England would need to get past both Spain, and Germany, the US coach really isn't saying anything crazy here; as I'll say this again... Germany facing Spain, and France, would actually have them in far tougher tests than their eventual encounter with England. German players and coaches continue to say as much right now, very eager to face England again too. And I'm sure the USwnt coach knows he won't need to beat England at Wembley in November, for his side to still be chasing another WC final in Australia come the 20th of August...
HA! On the back of a poor Euro's, you do realize Jones had lost to Iceland at home before that particular 4-0 win Vs France...? This should remind you how Diacre still NOWHERE near this level of desperation, with her team only failing to reach a Euro's final due to them facing a renewed German side, featuring a key in form player like Popp on a mission to recoup lost time.
It's honestly more important MVT continue building on the renewed identity she's finally brought back to this team. So if she feels this the continued path to do this, then fine. But I feel you completely missed my past issues, if you saw my complaints about Germany's 5 year collapse, and only thought it was about me crying over a damn FIFA rank lol... I mean, did you miss when Germany openly mocked by Iceland, became a trophy for Serbia to hang on their wall, and even worse not even considered contenders for a Euro's competition they've previously won 8 times...
@hotjam2 The FIFA rank simply the easiest showcase of Germany's period of unparalleled failure. From seeing a gap between #2 and #1 not being that far apart, the absence of Germany has only seen the US continue to increase it's lead year on year. Seeing Germany's Euro performance though, I'm sure the only reason for MVT wanting a good FIFA ranking right now, is to establish a good seeding for the WC, to avoid another group of death scenario; which of course means they don't actually need to face the USwnt to accomplish any of this. If Germany face the US in a friendly for the first time since... 2018.., it should be for improving their tactical approach towards counter pressing, not chasing FIFA rankings. Germany's senior level record Vs US being so poor, another defeat without actually learning anything seeming pretty pointless, no..?
If this true, even if it's within a FIFA international window, I honestly wouldn't expect to see a full strength German side facing the USwnt while Wolfsburg, Bayern, Frankfurt, all likely involved within WUCL group stage matches during this period of time...
OK... so your telling me it's all internal politics stopping Wiegman from selecting superior options from within the English league...? Hmmm, but later acknowledge how she's probably recreating the same situation we all witnessed saw with the Netherland's, where it's about maximizing the potential of a small player pool.. Similar to her previous wnt, Wiegman is clearly making a small group of players typically viewed as OK, or good, into being considered part of the elite. It's should always be noted no coincidence, England's best clubs are consistently constructed of predominantly foreign talent... LOL... I honestly pleased to see you at least attempt to showcase some receipts on your assertion England has better players to add to their team, but identifying Galton, Zelem, Turner, when they aren't close to the current players Wiegman's selecting for her team...
@hotjam2 We're in here pondering if Magull retains her place ahead of Marozsan, discussing MVT's attacking options while never believing Waßmuth actually close to being a starter, for a side Leupolz returning will mean absolutely nothing if she's challenging Lohmann, Nüsken, Lattwein, for a starting role again. But you think Wiegman bringing options like Galton, Zelem, Salmon into her team, makes it better... wow... ; You could literally build a pretty strong 11 from the various players France didn't take to the Euro's lol, this being the kind of depth I expect to see for this topic on depth. It simply highlights how good Wiegman is making the most of what she has to work with. Even with Netherland's she'd get to use a legit world class forward with Miedema, yet she' currently making people believe someone like Mead part of the elite...
@hotjam2 Team 1... Bühl ---------------- Popp ---------------------- Huth ---------------------- Magull ---------------------------- ------------ Oberdorf ------ Lohmann --------------- Rauch ----- Hegering ---- Hendrich ------ Gwinn ---------------------- Frohms --------------------------- Team 2... Brand ------------- Schüller -------------- Waßmuth --------------------- Marozsan -------------------- ------------- Lattwein ------ Däbritz ------------- Rall ------ Doorsoun ---- Kleinherne ------ Anyomi ------------------------ Schult -------------------------- I think we'd consider these MVT's top 22, and even this has issues...
Team 3... Wieder ------------- Cerci -------------- Kossler --------------------- Freigang -------------------- ------------ Nüsken ------ Leupolz ------------- Simon ------ Küver ---- Wedemeyer ---- Linder ----------------------- Berger ------------------------- Team 4... Dallmann ------- Peterman --------- Bremer ------------------------ Hagel ------------------------ ---------- Feldkamp ---- Demann ------------- Gerhardt --- Steuerwald --- Wolter --- Helcer --------------------- Tufekovic -------------------------- Now look... even if you disagree, I'm thinking I would need to be selecting players from group 4, to match the type of quality your suggesting supposedly good enough to improve Wiegman's England team... And even then, I feel that's being harsh on some players in group 4, who I'd still think better than the various options your suggesting make Wiegman's England team better...
