    Is there any data on whether the Conference League has been a success this season or not?

  3. Well, for Feyenoord it has, because all matches were sold out and the away matches were pretty full too.

    I think UEFA either underestimated the interest for the final or wanted too give Albania a football boost by granting them this final. Both Feyenoord and Roma could fill the stadium by themselves (24,000), so it was a disappointment for tens of thousands of Feyenoord and Roma fans who were itching to be there.

    Summary

    1. Follow updates as Roma take on Feyenoord at 20:00 BST
    2. Tirana plays host to Albania's first ever European Cup final.
    3. Mourinho bids to become the first coach to win all three current men's UEFA club competitions.
    4. England's Tammy Abramham will be looking to level with Feyenoord's Cyriel Dessers for top goal scorer. Abramham has nine whilst Dessers tally is ten.
    5. A victory for Feyenoord would see them become the only club to win all three of the current major UEFA men's club trophies.

    Tough loss but feyenoord can be pleased with how they performed yesterday

  6. Well, focus now is on getting into the Europa League final.
    Giovanni van Bronckhorst proved with Rangers, a likewise budget constrained club, it's very much possible.
    Interested in what's going to happen in the coming transfer window.

  7. Ouch.

    Friendly against FC Kopenhagen with reserve players as stand in for almost all players from the Conf. League final but Bijlow and Toornstra.

    It was 5-0 when Cole came in ... 6-0 within a minute... hopefully the stink on him isn't too great

  9. FC K has a headstart of a few weeks in training, but a bit more resistance would have been nice.
    Doubt there will be stink, as these things happen when you start up and the core/spine of a team is on leave.

    One season isn't going to be enough to say whether this competition is goin to live up top UEFA's expectations, but the two finalists, Roma and Feyenoord, are typical "big clubs domestically who haven't won very much/anything in 20 years", so you can expect them to be milking the fact that they reached a UEFA final for all that it's worth.

    Since the competition was designed for teams like this, expect close scrutiny on all indicators (website traffic, social media engagement, sponsorship, balance sheet, transfer revenues, attendances, etc.) for Roma from the April to this time next year. Rinse and repeat for next season's winner and so on for the next 5 seasons.

  11. I guess the UEFA might be frustrated about the amount of money they missed out on by selecting a stadium that made about 40 thousand of Feyenoord and about the same amount of Roma fans having a stay in Tirana without a ticket.

    Yeah. I saw that and went "Tirana?!? That's gotta be a typo."

    It's a decent stadium and all that, but for a UEFA final, at any level never mind a club competition? And it looks like they're going to make the same mistake next season: they've selected the Eden Arena in Prague, capacity 20,000 and change.

    Officially, the UECL is supposed to give clubs from lower-ranked countries a chance of progressing beyond their usual "finished with UEFA by XMas" status. Of course it didn't work out that way. The knockout rounds had only a few minnows from the smaller leagues who gave a few bloody noses and even claimed a scalp - Bodo Glimt versus Celtic - but most ties went to the teams from the bigger leagues.*

    The cynics, like me, can't help but notice that it was launched as rumours of the Super League began to percolate and a new competition would help keep the Tier 2 teams from the Top 5 and the big-fish-in-small-ponds that weren't going to be invited to the cartel sweet and motivated to scupper that project, for a while anyway.

    Maybe they're choosing these tiny stadia to keep up a fig leaf of plausible deniability.

    * e.g.
    Leicester beat Randers, Rennes and PSV until they met Roma in the semis;
    Marseilles beat Qarabag, Basel and PAOK until they met Feyenoord in the other semi)

    He needs minutes. If he can’t get it at Feyenoord, I’ve got no problem with Feyenoord sending him inside the Eredivisie to get those minutes. Rumblings from those I know, Feyenoord still want to purchase and will probably have to do so in order for this loan to go through.

    If it's a purchase and loan, it's a very typical youth development. "We're interested, go get minutes, come back improved". If it's them sending him back and Colorado organizing another loan with a lesser team, well, that one doesn't taste as good. Either way, kid just has to win a spot and get game time. Then we'll see...
