The senior team is pretty pragmatic these days. I think this is more the natural progression of back and forth as people feel out decision making between playing out and being safe. You have 18/19 year olds; there's going to be some bad choices. You also have the movement required to go through a press being a little more complex, and youth players often don't have the off ball chops. I also think people way over-attribute every potential issue in the back as something that should have scored -- we've had four years of this and very few actual goals against; it's time to stop pretending every error should be punished. If people scored goals at the % assumed here, we'd have conceded 3 ... but scored 7 or 8. From a systematic point, I'm worried far more about how soft the team is -- half the issues out of the back is just getting knocked off the ball when they shouldn't.
The biggest sign of the soccer IQ of this age group is how unaffected they are by the random bobbles this field creates. They are adaptable and (most) have the technical ability to react quickly to the bad bounce.
Exactly. That is what most presses want you to do. I am saying that the US should be trying to play through it. We are playing this exactly how CR desired. They simply couldn't finish to save their lives.
Post game is worse than USA vs Mexico...Some CR players chasing US players for blood...Maybe some one says something
We need more of these type of players. Plenty of rugged dawgs in the NT currently but have trouble prying open a bunker. This team knows how to ball. Defense seems plenty decent since they've only given up two fluke goals.
Looks like a player from Costa Rica came up and shoved one of our players in the back long after the whistle.
Roster seems so imbalanced. Wings, attacking mid and the 8 seem to have plenty of options but FBs, CBs, the 6 and the 9 seem to be weaker.
I only saw the 2nd half, but I feel like Costa Rica was a bit unlucky not to get more out of this one. I don't think they deserved to win, as they didn't create many great chances, but they probably deserved at least one goal.
Quoting myself to make something clear -- been to Costa Rica multiple times. LOVE Costa Rica and the Costa Rican people. Great country. I am speaking only of the team that was out there acting the fool at the final whistle, chasing US players around and trying to start a brouhaha.
this is my first time watching him. when he receives the ball he controls it and moves it up the field without any fear or concern. unflappable based on what I saw.
