  1. Ah, you're right. It's been only for the Orange Lionesses, not for the tournements.

By just reading the names, it seems incredibly deep, with quite a load of experienced veterans mixed up with younger solid talents.

Considering that they're #2 in the World FIFA Rankings and that they just lost the Olympics at the penalty shootout one year ago, it seems to me that Sweden are the most serious candidate to the title. :coffee:

God knows, if they reach the finals, I hope they win*. I don't think my heart can take seeing Seger's face after losing another gold. Last summer almost killed me.

(* unless they're playing Norway. Obvs.)

    Stand by selection:

This upcoming Euros will be tough for all teams. Even Spain won’t be able to breeze through after seeing how England played against them in Arnold Cup.

From the Guardian who interviewed Bev Ward, the Football Association executive responsible for that tournament’s marketing and communications strategy

"With well over 400,000 tickets sold and more than 96,000 supporters from 95 countries travelling to England, has the FA missed an open goal? “Cities were invited to be hosts and, sadly, no one from the north-east, Midlands or south-west applied,” Ward says. “These tournaments place a lot of work on local authorities, and grounds that meet Uefa’s criteria aren’t always available in July."

That's why there are a lot of small grounds. A lot off clubs/council did not apply to host games.

    • Well, IMO if there are cities with stadiums that would be good for the tournament, but local officials are reluctant to bid for one reason or another, the FA must step in and provide whatever assistance and persuasion is needed to secure them as hosts. That's rather the FA's job, no? Just saying, "well, no one from the Northeast applied," isn't good enough, IMO, if you're going to be left with sites/grounds that are too small for a tournament of this caliber.
    • I thought France did a excellent job with the last WC--a good mix of mostly high-quality stadiums of the right size scattered around the country, all accessible to train, though there were problems with some cities not providing enough information or transportation for crowds coming in for games.

  25. I think it's a show of contempt towards the women game not to offer suitable venues to compete for being hosts.
