Yeah I totally agree. I loved seeing such a local side being fielded. I just thought that the mostly local side can also be supplemented with some elite naturalized talent, say a Jared Lum or an Everton.

Yes, I am a proponent of sending our top squad for every possible A match precisely for this reason, and because we have so few matches to begin with we can't afford too many rotations.

Personally, I wouldn't mind the senior squad using the E-1 EAFF East Asia Cup finals as an opportunity as a build-up for the 2023 Asian Cup finals even though I would like to have a mix of players who had featured in the third round qualifiers and some fresh faces (mainly those who were named in the training squad for the postponed 2022 Asian Games.)

Any players you want to see dropped / added for the EAFF EAC?

    For me:

    - Ng Wai Him replacing Paulo
    - Tsang Yi Hang replacing Tomas
    - Defender - not sure who - to replace Wong Tsz Ho's spot (we have a serious lack of depth at this position! Tsui Wang Kit would be the natural replacement)
    - Sohgo or Lai Pui Kei replacing Diego Eli

Based on the players that had featured during the third round qualifiers as well as the young players who were initially named in the E-1 EAFF Cup finals:

    Goalkeepers:
I think it is likely they will keep Yapp Hung Fai on board and name Ng Wai Him and perhaps either between Wang Zhenpeng or Yuen Ho Chun.

    Defenders:
Could see the likes of Yue Tsz Nam and Law Tsz Chun being named as does Tsui Wang Kit and Fung Hing Wa. I could see the likes of HK-U23's Wong Ho Yin, Lee Man's Yung Hui To, Southern's Chan Hoi Pak and Rangers' Cheng Tsz Sum as candidates.

I don't exactly know at what odds Helio will make a return to the national team having been absent from the third round qualifiers.

    Midfielders:
Huang Yang, Ju Yingzhi, Wong Wai, Chan Siu Kwan and Jesse Yu Joy Yin should be able to maintain their places. In addition, I'd like to see Sohgo Ichikawa, Cheng Chin Lung and Lai Pui Kei take the spots.

    Forwards:
I think Matt Orr, Sun Ming Him, Jahangir Khan and Fernando should maintain their place. Its hard to consider which other strikers should also be named unless they give an opportunity to another young player such as Ng Man Hei in which he along with Wong Ho Yin were late call-ups for Hong Kong's third round qualifers before they were dropped.

Chan Man-Chun of KC Southern District spoke on RTHK radio interview, he claims HKFA expects 10 clubs to take part in the 2022-23 HKPL. Wofoo Tai Po will return, HKFC will remain but Sham Shui Po FC has yet to confirm.

The prize money will also increase to HK$1.8 million, an increase of 50%. HKFA Cup will also has a $400,000 prize fund.

Hopefully we do get 10 good clubs for the new season.

Wen Wei Po reports that Fung thinks he cannot past the COVID-19 PCR test, which makes him ineligible for the AFC Cup group matches. I guess he leaves the club now so he can return to HK and look for a new club, as 10 clubs are expected to join HKPL in the new season, his chances of finding a club are good.

No comment from Matt Lam on whether he is staying in Hong Kong or not.

Fung HW definitely helped his stock during this round of the Asia Cup, he will definitely find a new club. Good strong local CB's are hard to find in the league right now.

Full Time: Lee Man Vs Eastern Long Lions - 1:3

Eastern's AFC Cup campaign had gotten off to a winning start to give them three points against fellow HK club Lee Man. Although Gil Martins opened his account for Lee Man at the start, Eastern struck back with goals from youngster Ma Hei Wai and a Victor Bertemou double was enough to give them the win.

Full Time: Lee Man Vs Tainan City FC - 3:1

Lee Man pounced back from their defeat against Eastern with a win against Tainan City FC which was led by former Yuen Long and Pegasus coach Kenneth Kwok to keep their feint chances of qualifying to the next round. Second half goals by Yung Hui To, Junior Dutra and Chang Hei Yin were enough to seal the three points whilst Marcus Fenelus scored a goal back after Tsui Wang Kit conceded a penalty.

With the E-1 East Asia Cup 2022 finals within a couple of weeks, I am eager to see which players will be picked by Andersen.

Lee Man has gotten a win and a loss, i.e. 3 points and GD is 0. I really don't see how Lee Man can go through now. All Eastern needs is a draw to win the group.

But maybe it is a blessing in disguise. Because this year the South East Asian group winners will actually play the Group J winners in the Inter-zone play-off semi-finals in early Sept. That will coincide with the beginning of the HKPL season and might be disruptive to their preparations.

Apparently it looks like Chan Siu Kwan is set to leave Kitchee according to his social media post.

Justin Ho should be able to return from injury next season and Ngan Cheuk Pan may also return so in the long run, this won't hurt Kitchee.

It will only hurt them in the short term for ACL, and even that's debatable since Alex Chu only used Philip once in four matches.

    https://www.scmp.com/sport/hong-kon...pions-get-50-cent-more-prize-money-hong-kongs

Premier League champions to get 50 per cent more prize money as Hong Kong’s clubs mobilise

Two clubs contribute HK$3 million in seed money as teams form group to attract more sponsors and fans during three-year trial

‘It has been under discussion for a long period of time that the Premier League clubs should run their own competition,’ Kwoon Chung Southern chairman says

The clubs in the Hong Kong Premier League are to set up their own committee to boost prize money and manage costs – and they could eventually seek a greater say in running the competition.

A working group has been established to form the “Hong Kong Premier League Committee”, including seven out of the top division’s eight current clubs, with only HK U23 not part of it.

And the clubs announced initial extra funding that will hand next season’s league champions a 50 per cent rise in prize money.

“We have formed a working group and the immediate task is to find ways to lower the clubs’ expenses and, at the same time, increase our income,” said Chan Man-chun, chairman of Kwoon Chung Southern.

“It has been under discussion for a long period of time that the Premier League clubs should run their own competition, and we are happy to have taken the initial step and start a trial for the next three seasons. We’ll see how it works out and decide the next step.”

With the support of HK$3 million in seed money contributed by two clubs, believed to be Kitchee and Lee Man, they plan to increase prize money for the league and the FA Cup.

The total prize money for the Premier League competition will increase from HK$1.2 million to HK$1.8 million, with the champions receiving HK$720,000 – up 50 per cent from the existing HK$480,000.

Prize money for the other teams in the standings will also increase. The total winning purse for the FA Cup will rise to HK$400,000, with half of that sum going to the winners.

Besides separately bearing the costs of hiring referees and ball boys, clubs will have to pay HK$5,000 for each match to cover expenses such as rental costs and other ground charges. This revenue will go into a pool, and if there is any profit at the end of the season, it will be shared by the clubs, except the bottom team.

At the moment, the home team has to bear all of the expenses for each league match, which come to an average of HK$25,000, but they can also take all of the gate receipts.

Chan said there would not be any change to the title of the Premier League.
“BOC Life will remain the title sponsor of the league, and the extra HK$600,000 in prize money will come from the seed money,” he said.

“We will also set up a marketing team for the Premier League and see if we can secure more financial backing from the commercial sector. The FA has its own marketing team, but they serve the FA in general. Our marketing team will be more specific, with the Premier League the only target.”

Chan said the clubs had no plan to break away from the FA, and the Premier League would still be under the body’s supervision, but they wanted to introduce some new elements to attract more sponsors and bring back fans.

“We want to give it a try for the next three seasons, and if there is still no improvement, Hong Kong football may have to consider other ways forward,” he said. “We hope we can work on the right track to prove that Hong Kong football still has a future.”

    ====================================================
It seems Kitchee and Lee Man are willing to subsidize other clubs in their hopes to maximize their chances of competing in the ACL group stage.

Goals from Mikael, Sun Ming Him and Victor Bertemou were enough to take Eastern Long Lions to the Inter-Zone Play-Off Semi-Finals for the first time.

I'm pretty sure that Jorn Andersen will be monitoring the matches to see which players caught his attention as he should be naming his squad for the E-1 EAFF East Asia Cup finals that is coming up within the middle of July.

In other news, Lee Man had announced several departures that include Kim Seong-Yong who announced his retirement, Junior Dutra and Anson Wong Ho Chun are all leaving the club:

Its not just Yapp Hung Fai who had been omitted, but also no Huang Yang or Law Tsz Chun. Diego Eli also missed out and I believe that was due to an injury he sustained during the AFC Cup.

Having watched all three of the AFC Cup ties, I'm surprised that not even Ma Hei Wai and Yung Hui To were called in considering how well they had performed during their matches. In addition, had they not been under a one year suspension by the HKFA, I predict Chang Hei Yin and Chu Wai Kwan might had an opportunity to make the cut.

I am surprised that Lee Ka Yiu and Cheng Siu Kwan earned call-ups considering that they had either not featured or barely clocked enough minutes to justify their place.

In other news, Kitchee have announced that in addition to Chan Siu Kwan, Tong Kin Man, Bosely Yu Yang, Guo Jiangquo and Sean Tse are to depart from the club.

Sham Shui Po FC and Wofoo Tai Po FC, both aspiring to move up to the HKPL, are the finalists of the HK First Division League Cup. The final will be held this Sunday at Kowloon Bay Sports Ground.

The mass exodus continues at Eastern

Fernando, Lee Ka Yiu, Ng Ka Yeung, Jared Lum, Lam Lok Yin, Lui Cheuk Kan, Mikael and Chung Wai Keung have all departed the club. Some suggestions that Mikael will sign with Kitchee.

Take nothing away from Eastern - they earned their spot in the AFC knockout round. Unfortunately for them and for Hong Kong, it is coming at a time when they're looking to cut budget and focus more on developing young players rather than compete for trophies.
