interesting but on the first one...even if there was only very minimal contact, tripping or attempting to trip is still a foul, even if the attacker was jumping.

Clattenburg was on ESPN FC yesterday talking about Moss and the two calls. He noted that Oliver and Atwell did the semifinals and thought it was hugely wrong to have picked Moss for the final match as a 'farewell gift'. He thought that Moss should have gone to VAR for both calls but because he called a dive on the first one, VAR probably thought that they could not overrule the call on the field as it was not a clear and obvious mistake.

Amazing that Clatts has been gone from English football for 5 years already.

He wasn't the only one thinking this way as many posts on here showed.

It was clear and obvious to almost everyone else who saw it, including the defender who made the tackle who was seen on TV genuflecting when the decision was upheld!

Technically, he only made the sign of the cross but didn't bend the knee---so slightly less guilty.

    :D

Tom Brammall from Sheffield has been promoted to the Premier League for next season.

Joining him in Select Group 1 are three ARs - Nick Greenhalgh, Steve Meredith and Natalie Aspinall.

And the definition of "gaining one" will be tested. How many games did Harrington and Salisbury do this season? I think I'm seeing three each.

Edit to say Brooks with four and Gillett with nine. Forgot all four came in together last year.

Regardless, that probably reinforces the point. Gillett is a bit of a special case. Outside him, PGMOL has seen fit to give 3-4 matches to a new referee recently. And most of those were at the end of the year.

You're losing about 75 matches between Moss, Dean and Atkinson in the EPL alone. You might be adding 4 with Brammall. There's a math problem here. Your lower tier referees like Bankes, Hooper, Coote, etc. are going to have to pick up like 6-8 games each in addition to at least few more for last year's debutants.

That's a good point. I guess a better question is how many of those 75 matches will the promoted guys from last season pick up past what they did last season.

That is a famous name in Sheffield :D
Any other top referees with names the same as stadiums?

Webb has seemed like the logical and inevitable choice for about two years now.

PGMOL wanted to promote another referee called Joshua Smith to SG1 but, as per the RateTheRef forum, he failed the fitness test so didn't make the jump (he tested positive for COVID the next day :/).

No one in PGMOL management suggested that maybe, you know, he might get a makeup attempt?
