It starts tonight in Atlanta ladies and gentlemen. The megabus has been a megabust, now we’re braving the choppy water of MLS with the hype roweboat for JRR. Grab a paddle and come aboard.
Sir, there is clearly a transportation theme here: megabus, LZ hyperloop, Zardes hype train, and now the Roweboat.
JRR was on Inside the Crew with BigSoccer's own @Chris Doran and had a spectacular answer to the question, "What do you expect from the 1st team players when they come play on Crew2?". His answer was (paraphrasing) for them to adapt to the style of Crew2 because they are professionals and professionals should be able to do that. The rest of the interview is good but that part stuck out to me.
That's a good answer. Porter probably thinks Crew 2 should follow his methods but it's hard to hold playing good football against Courtois. Has Matan gotten any time with C2? He seems like someone who obviously needs minutes.
He got a game or two to start but i watched their last game and they played 5-3-2, no spot for him in that formation. And it seems Courtois wants runners in attack, people that will move off the ball. Matan is definitely a ball watcher who waits to get the ball and then do stuff. I don’t think he fits in with Courtois’ system or tactics honestly.
JRR ended the game with two goals. So that’s 9 goals and 2 assists in 10 games (8 starts, 740 minutes). A goal/90 of 1.09 which is ridiculous. Golden Boot leader in MNP right now. He has 14 shots on target on 27 shots, a SOT% of 51.9%. Berry’s SOT% is 21.1% (4 SOT, 17 S). Can we please give JRR some minutes with the first team??
Ah yes, the second-string QB is always the fan's darling..... I'm not really trying to poke fun at you, personally, Kyle--just to note that this is a common theme among fanbases everywhere, especially when a team, like ours, is struggling. While I do want to see him get first team minutes at some point, realistically we really don't know how big the jump from MSLNext to the first team is. Is MLSNext AAA, AA, or Rookie? It's too new to know, yet.
Our current depth chart is: 1) Erik Hurtado (let that sink in for a minute) 2) Miguelol ‘Megabust’ Berry (no further comment required) 3) ?????????????? The only thing that needs poked fun at is our depth chart. I know you’re insanely cautious, I get that. But look at our first two strikers and give me a reason not to give JRR minutes. I’m not talking about a start, I’m talking about 15-30 minutes.
All due respect to Ken, but this is the point here. No sane person would turn the offense over to the kid, but theres no good reason not to send him on at 70- 80 minutes just to get his feet wet a couple times. After that, we'll see, but as you rightly note, given the current alternatives what in the world is there to lose?
I was about to say that he won't be able to play tonight due to the loan rules, but I see he's been signed to the big club. Rowe, Rowe, Rowe your boat!

Yup. Potential start tonight? (J/k. He will be backup to Miguel two-goals-on-the-season Berry.) How appropriate with the forum’s pride and joy, @Kyle Crew, at the game.
Answer to the future trivia question: Who was the first player off the MLS Next roster to sign with the senior club? JRR has been signed through 2024 with a club option for 2025 and 2026. And lest we forget he was poached from Moronto for 50k in TAM
