You have to understand some context. AFA is not happy with this deal since it was signed by a previous administration with not so favorable terms for us.

Last time the teams played in Australia (June 2017) the branding was "Brazil global tour" as if our team are just their sparrings.
The current AFA administration deserves criticism for many things but at least they usually act based when it's about defending our NT image and rights.

I'd rather wait before making any such statements. Pitch is the company that holds the contract which the federations sign. I want to know if AFA breached unilaterally or if something else happened before making a judgment.

As i wrote above, I too don't mind the cancellation other than the fact that CBF would likely deserve some form of reimbursement.

When the 2021 match was called off and I participated in your forum, I used tough language at times. However, I tried my best to present the facts as they were available and as I knew them.

You on the other hand have come here blaming CBF and saying irrelevant things like "Pitch isn't FIFA."

If AFA was against this match, then why should CBF make the call? If there is a contractual obligation for both federations and it is AFA which wanted out, the burden was on AFA to reach out to CBF to express its side of the story.

As Ombak wrote, it's hysterical and sad. Some of your compatriots immediately assumed the match was going to happen when Ombak wrote in clear and plain English the match had been canceled. Anti-Brazilian autopilot indeed.... Pavlovian, that's what I'd call it. :p

This context you present may well be true, but it is irrelevant to CBF and to Pitch as well. If there is a valid contract which AFA signed in the past, a new administration does not have the legal right to unilaterally breach the contract.

For clarity, I am not accusing AFA of any wrongdoing here - I do want to know, frankly, who is the party who wanted out AND took action to make the cancellation happen. I want to know if Pitch itself decided to call off the match.

It wouldn't surprise me if Grondona, when he signed this deal, got everything up front (and CBF too). Making it even less relevant to the people in power today. I suppose there's one more scenario I didn't think of before, which is that AFA could try to delay the match into next year. After all, if it could be postponed before, why not again in this super congested calendar year?

Just for fun, I decided to find Pitch and see how they frame these matches:
    https://pitchinternational.com/case-studies/argentina-national-football-team-afa

    "Working Together
Due to our agreements with the Football Associations of Brazil and Argentina, Pitch is the exclusive owner of the Superclásico. Working with CBF & AFA, we take this huge game around the world, promoting both federations in the process."

    "Results
Pitch has staged four Superclásico matches in some of the world’s most iconic stadiums, with the next edition planned for June 2022. These matches have seen an average attendance of 60,000, including a 96,000 sell-out at the MCG in Australia."

I guarantee you, they're the only ones who see it this way. Not AFA or CBF today. CBF are currently recovering from an administration that was basically still a puppet of Del Nero and got ousted due to sexual harassment cases.

And of course, certainly not our coaching staff and neither set of fans want this.

Vini Jr. notched his first hat-trick for Real Madrid today. Even had a disallowed goal too. The match felt like Real's celebration of the La Liga title. They now have two weekend matches left before the May 28 CL final.

Vini also has over 20 goals (all competitions) on the season now.

Emerson got 90 minutes in the Tottenham win over Arsenal. Gabriel Magalhães and Martinelli started for Arsenal, but the other central defender, Holding, got a red card after 33 minutes.

As for the June matches, there will only be 2:
    https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...-enfrentar-apenas-coreia-do-sul-e-japao.ghtml

"discutidas as opções sugeridas nos últimos dias, a comissão técnica entende que as dificuldades logísticas interfeririam na preparação da equipe"

TLDR, the coaching staff does not think it is worth it. Based on the options they were presented, the logistics of a third friendly at the last minute would interfere too much with the squads training time.

So the UEFA teams will play 4 Nations League matches in June and we will play 2 friendly matches.

What about Argentina, are they only playing the Italy game on the 1st of June?

I really don’t understand, from a teams’ chemistry and development perspectice, why any Brazilian/Argentinian would be against this game. You can give me political/bureaucratic reasons, but all we should think about now is to increase our chances of winning the WC.

I believe Argentina is scheduling a friendly with Israel. Not sure if that is still TBD.

Since Russia is suspended, their group opponents have free dates available. However, those opponents are Israel, Iceland and Albania. Albania would be available after June 10, but aren't a team Brazil is looking at for friendlies.

I'm surprised Brazil couldn't schedule a match with Senegal or Ivory Coast though. Those teams play 2 games in June for AFCON qualifying and would be available after June 7 and 9 respectively. But considering how the article put it, the problem was more than just scheduling.

Just one more week of league soccer in Europe, plus the CL final left to play. Brazil x South Korea is 5 days after the CL final.

Alisson, Fabinho, Militão, Casemiro, Vini Jr., Rodyrgo are all in the CL final (May 28th) and as a result will be joining the team late. Other players will be in Seoul as early as May 26.

Militão's form is concerning enough that there is speculation he might be benched for the CL final. They have one match next Sunday before the CL final.

Liverpool play Tuesday and Sunday. If they win Tuesday then every match they play this season will count for something as the title will still be possible.

It's disappointing that we won't have a third friendly, especially considering how many players could be rested for the first match. I have seen discussions in Brazil about whether we would perform better now or in November. Some people are looking at Vini Jr and Rodrygo and wishing the World Cup were now, but considering the form of our defenders, I think we should be happy the World Cup is later.

For the South Korea match, if we do rest Vini Jr. and others, maybe we see a 4-4-2, using Neymar as a second striker and Paquetá + Coutinho or Raphinha + Paquetá as right and left mids depending on who lines up behind them.

    Maybe

Ederson; Danilo, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Arana; Bruno Guimarães, Fred, Paquetá, Coutinho; Neymar, Matheus Cunha

We all know and have known for many years that the calendar makes a friendly vs. a UEFA team very difficult. As far as the friendly matches against Korea and Japan are concerned, there's far less of a time zone adjustment for people who live in Europe.

Regarding Korea, I remember two friendlies vividly. One was in 1997; Brazil was losing until the end and then scored 2. Then in 1999, Brazil lost 0-1 at Korea as the hosts scored very late.

As far as Japan is concerned, based on my memory, I don't remember Brazil ever losing a friendly match to them, although they did defeat Brazil during the group stage of the 1996 Olympics.

If I were asked which Asian team I see as the likeliest to win the World Cup first, I would have to say Japan. Their work ethic, their openness to learn (they have had exchange programs with Brazilian players and managers for decades), their discipline, and their persistence makes them, to me, the most logical candidate. We mustn't forget they were up 2-0 on Belgium in 2018 before the Belgians made tactical changes in the second half. Based on my memory, again, a bit of South American-style malandragem may have helped them not lose that match.

2022 probably won't be Japan's year, though.... they have Germany and Japan in the group stage.

Tite has had a few major interviews this year. Today he sat down with Jovem Pan Esportes for a 90 minute interview you can watch here:

I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but they have already released some shorter clips worth watching, including this one that begins during a portion where they break down some of the offensive formations they've used recently and then goes into how Neymar is used now and how he is no longer the only focal point:

I encourage everyone to watch if you can and point out interesting clips or portions if you see something worth sharing!

I watched the Neymar segment. He does say Neymar doesn't need to be the focal point anymore but I think the more interesting question in how he is thinking Neymar will operate tactically. He doesn't really go into it unless I missed something.

Good thing Thiago Asmar wasn't part of this :ROFLMAO:

With Mbappe moving to Madrid, it could create sort of a problem for Vin Jr. ... being that he may get moved to the right wing. Perhaps it's not a huge deal, but it can mess with his confidence. I think he used to play RW for Flamengo but I believe Tite wants to use him on the left.

Also, while Rodrygo hasn't been a starter this season, I could see him seeing less minutes in the months leading up to the WC.

European league season is over. Only the CL remains.

Raphinha and Richarlison stay up, but will they stay with their clubs? It should be an exciting off-season as far as the national team goes. (Starting with what you guys mentioned, about Vini Jr. and Rodrygo and some guy named Mbappé not moving to Real Madrid.)

After the friendlies, leagues in Europe won't start again until Aug 6 or 13 but a number of seleção players could move in the off-season.

When the September call-up happens Brazilian teams will be in the semis of the Libertadores and Copa do Brasil and the league will be more than halfway done. European teams will probably only have a few league matches played (maybe 5?) but the first Champions League group matches won't even happen until after the call-up.

Hard to imagine anything happening between now and then that could make a difference in the September roster, but who knows.

CBF wants USD 1.5 million from Pitch as compensation for the match in Australia which Argentina gave up on.

As well, the link above states Ednaldo Rodrigues, current CBF president, wants FIFA to award Brazil the 3 points for the September 2021 match and he again makes the point Argentina's delegation made trouble from the start by violating the rules which were in place at that time.

I would be very surprised if FIFA changes its mind and rather than obligating CBF and AFA to play in September, it awards the 3 points to Brazil (or to Argentina).

I mean ... European groups for WCQ and EuroQ are typically a joke. The UEFA Nations League started only recently after Europeans started winning the WCs consecutively. I guess they play each other once every 4 years in the Euros. But big Euro teams have not steamrolled the CONMEBOL teams not named Brazil/Argentina in WCs. France squeaked past Peru in 2018. Spain probably should have lost to Paraguay in 2010 and etc ... not to mention Argentina could have easily won it in 2014 final.

The problem is another. Europe just has more teams that can win a WC. Germany, Spain, France, Italy (not recently obviously but historically) are all WC winners ... and you could argue that Holland has had teams good enough to win it at one point or anther. In SA we have Brazil and Argentina. And that's it. If one of them is going through a bad patch, that leaves one contender. In Europe you could 2 or 3 going through a bad generation (or bad form) ... and you have 2 others left that are strong.

All Brazilian and Argentinean players already play in Europe vs European players (and from rest of the world). So that's not it either.

    That's my take anyways.

Danilo has been cut from the June friendlies due to injury.

No word on a replacement yet. We'll see if Emerson comes in. This could make the friendlies more useful - since right-back could use some testing - or it could just be another setback in this window.

    https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...selecao-brasileira-de-amistosos-na-asia.ghtml

    Update:

Looks like no one will be called up to replace Danilo, which is bizarre. Just seems like the coaching staff are already done with this window, between the decision to not play a third match after Argentina bowed out and now this.

Besides the Champions League participants, there are still some players missing, but Saturday training (keep in mind Korea is 12 hours ahead of Brazil) has a couple of signs of what we might see Thursday.

    https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...-jesus-richarlison-lucas-paqueta-coreia.ghtml

Notably Danilo and Fred started training, and Bruno Guimarães and Fred ended it, suggesting Danilo might start, but either way it will likely be Fred at the 8 position.

Up front it was Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison, with Paquetá in midfield. (This means Raphinha, Matheus Cunha and Martinelli up front and Coutinho in midfield for the reserves.)

Definitely some testing being prioritized with the options that are available. The Japan match will have everyone available and I imagine we'll all available starters (barring additional cuts).

Militão had a great final after all. Casemiro had an amazing final. And Vini Jr. scored the winning goal for Real Madrid to crown his amazing season.

Rodrygo came on in added time, not enough time to do anything.

Alisson had one mistake late in the first half but it didn't result in anything. He wasn't really tested though (while Courtois had an insane match). Fabinho was good and played the whole match despite the injury concern. Firmino came in and was useful but not enough.

They'll join the national team in a few days but unlikely to play the first match.

The team with more Brazilians won.

To help the team get used to the time difference more quickly, they were encouraged to leave the hotel and spend the days outside. Neymar posted on his instagram and there are videos of them on a roller coaster and at other spots.

It's nice to see. I'm a little disappointed with the June window overall (as I noted in my previous posts) but the camaraderie and bonding we see in these videos is definitely a huge positive.
