Let's see if I can get through the qualifying roundup in one piece...

    CARIBBEAN

Let's switch up the order for once ;)

Former Concacaf League semifinalist Arcahaie bit the dust, losing both of its group stage matches in the Championship to send Vega Real and Waterhouse to the semifinals.

Violette, on the other hand, defeated Jamaica's Cavalier; the latter now must beat Cibao to stave off elimination.

Btw, that tree on one end of Cibao's stadium may be my new favorite Concacaf landmark :D

    CENTRAL AMERICA

Guatemala - The Clausura semifinals are set:

    Comunicaciones vs. Malacateco
    Municipal vs. Guastatoya

    El Salvador
    -

    Honduras
    - Motagua and Real España will contest the Clausura Final. The latter topped the full-year table and ended up as runners-up last time, so we have our catracho contingent for the Concacaf League.

    Nicaragua -

Walter Ferretti have to pull off the comeback, or they'll watch as Real Estelí grab the NCA2 berth as the best runner-up in the full-year table.

Costa Rica - There's one game left in the regular season... and Saprissa must win, or they'll miss out on both the Clausura Round 2 playoffs and the Concacaf League

...if they do make it, however, they'll also leapfrog Cartaginés in the full-year table, and will take at least the CRC3 berth if anyone other than Cartaginés win the Clausura.

    Panama -

    NORTH AMERICA

    Canada -

    https://twitter.com/CanadaSoccerEN/status/1525174286000046080

USA - Nothing on the immediate horizon, other than the Open Cup now at the Round of 16:

    https://twitter.com/opencup/status/1525085534137241600

Mexico - All the top seeds won out, so we have our Clausura semifinalists:

    Pachuca vs. Club América
    Tigres UANL vs. Atlas

The only hand-me-down left in play is that Pachuca have two shots at qualifying (if either they or Atlas make the Final); a Pachuca-Atlas Final drags Tigres in as well, albeit as the dreaded MEX4 seed down in Pot 2 of the draw o_O

    2023 CCL Qualifiers

    1. Club León [MEX2 or MEX3]
    2. Atlas [MEX1]

    2022 CL Qualifiers

    1. Pacific [CAN2]
    2. Tauro [PAN1 or PAN2]

So, you know the feeling the rest of the world has about Real Madrid in the Champions League ("They can't keep getting away with it!")? That's how other clubs in Costa Rica feel about Saprissa

And just like that, the morados jumped to 3rd in the full-year table, so only Cartaginés winning the Round 2 playoffs, and then beating Alajuelense in the Grand Final, could stop Saprissa returning to the continental stage.

The group stage of the Caribbean Club Championship wrapped up yesterday, with Cavalier going from group winners to eliminated in the space of 30 minutes

    And the semifinals are set:

Waterhouse FC (JAM) vs. Violette (HAI)
Cibao FC (DOM) vs. Atlético Vega Real (DOM)

Depends on who they face there. The main principle is that hand-me-down berths get passed down the corresponding half-season table - and León's absence means that the MEX3 berth is going nowhere, so the Clausura table is the only one we care about.

To wit: if Atlas play América in the Final, then América become MEX2 and Pachuca MEX4.

But if Altas play Pachuca, then Pachuca get the MEX2 berth and Tigres inherit MEX4.

Which means that for the 2023 CCL, Pachuca or Tigres will be the team everyone wants to avoid in Pot 2... and neither is a slouch like León, so MLS beware :cautious:

Atlas held on to win their semifinal against Tigres 5-4 on aggregate... and to stop there would be perhaps the greatest injustice done to tonight's game.

The second half ended with 16 minutes of injury time punctuated by a VAR review, Tigres' goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán delaying the Atlas penalty with crying, and then Guzmán throwing a second ball on the field for reasons and getting sent off :ROFLMAO:

    Meanwhile, further south...

Gotta appreciate when the local press does our job for us :D

Águila has reached the Salvadoran Clausura Final... and they finished second in the full-year table only behind Apertura champs Alianza. The other Clausura semifinal (currently in progress) happens to be between Apertura finalists Alianza and Platense, So El Salvador's Concacaf League contingent is set.

Atlético Vega Real overcame Waterhouse on penalties after a 1-1 draw to guarantee their debut on the continental stage; the last Caribbean CL berth will come down to a one-off between Waterhouse and Bayamón.

And the Salvadoran Final is now set:

In spite of playing 100 minutes down a man, Violette held on for a 0-0 draw against the hosts Cibao, before ending the penalty kicks with two goalkeeper saves to take the Caribbean title! @JFoot23

Over in Guatemala, Comunicaciones returning to the Final (taking on archrivals Muncipal) sorts out our chapín representation as well.

And in Panama, the Final will pit Alianza against Sporting San Miguelito...

...although I have no idea if that means the latter has already qualified.

Finally, Pachuca put the straight beats on América 3-0  and based on Mexico's hand-me-down rules to date, Atlas' extra berth will now fall down to Tigres.

The Caribbean circuit wrapped up today with the Championship 4th place/Shield winner playoff... and for the first time, the higher seed won! Waterhouse rode a late scoring spree to see off Bayamón 4-0.

And on another note: yes, I completely forgot to remark that Costa Rica's full-year table guaranteed Alajuelense another continental appearance, out of spite :ROFLMAO:

Now, the only missing teams on the Concacaf League guest list are one each from Panama and Costa Rica... mind you, the latter won't be determined until after the WC intercontinental playoffs, as the Costa Rican league is on hiatus.

I would've come here with a Central American roundup, but Jon Arnold's already out here doing the Lord's work (subscription required), so...

Worth noting that the Concacaf League draw will take place on June 8, by which time the last qualifier will still be a mystery.

And kudos to the Panamanian league for sharing a run-down of not only their own qualified teams...

    ...but the full field!

A quick update on the last qualifier...

It's still up in the air

Cartaginés will need to win the Final of these Clausura Round 2 playoffs, and then the Gran Final against Round 1 winner Alajuelense, in order to pip Saprissa to the last berth...

The Voyageurs' Cup Final is set:

Meanwhile, Alajuelense disposed of Saprissa 3-1 (AET) to advance to the Clausura Final... and now the morados face the Catch-22 of needing their archrival to win another league title for their continental aspirations to remain intact.

The distribution of berths is clarified: if the Clausura winner is...

"La Liga" --> Alajuelense as CRC1, Herediano as CRC2 and Saprissa as CRC3

Cartago --> Herediano as CRC1, Cartaginés as CRC2 and Alajuelense as CRC3

Huh - didn't know that away goals counted in the Round 2 Final... but nothing's decided yet, as Alajuelense and Cartaginés will have another go in the Gran Final to decide the Clausura title!

    :eek::eek::eek:

The US Open Cup semifinals wrapped up tonight, giving us a historic Final on multiple fronts:

    1. As far as I can tell, this is the first time the Open Cup Final will happen in Florida. You already know...

    2. On September 7, this match will pit Orlando City against Sacramento Republic, the first non-MLS team to get this far since Charleston Battery in 2008.

    3. Most importantly for our purposes, the winner will be a debutant in the next CCL!

Alajuelense punched their ticket to the CL semifinals and the CCL itself by taking all six points off of an ultimately hapless Alianza (the lack of regular league play in El Salvador certainly didn't help). Not that the albos are entirely out of it, though: from the Round of 16 on, they have 6 points to 5 for Tauro and 4 each for Herediano and Diriangén, so two of them losing this week would seal Alianza's return to the big stage.

Meanwhile, if we aren't yet able to declare a new qualifier out of the US, it's because Montreal and Austin refuse to bow out of the race: the former's victory over Chicago tonight means that both can still catch their respective conference leaders, Philadelphia and LAFC.

"But Montreal can't qualify through MLS!"

You're right (for the last time, mind - berths will now be given to leagues rather than specific countries starting next season), but a berth occupied by Montreal would get passed down the Supporters' Shield table rather than being reserved for another Eastern Conference team, so Philly doesn't have said berth in the bag just yet.

Austin did their part as well, beating RSL to keep the race for MLS's regular-season CCL berths alive and well.

Meanwhile, Motagua's Concacaf League legend Rougier saved the last penalty in an otherwise-perfect shootout to seal their CCL return... and set up a potential barnburner of a CL semi against archrivals Olimpia

As for the best losing quarterfinalists race:

    - Both Tauro and Alianza finished on 6 points... but Alianza has the superior goal differential (+3 to Tauro's +1).

    - Tonight's favorites, Real España and Olimpia, both have more points (9 and 7, respectively), so it would be disastrous for the others if either Honduran side failed to advance.

    - OTOH, Herediano are only on 3 points so far, so they have no choice but to win the series if they want to reach the CCL. As for Diriangén, if CL survival is likely a bridge too far, any win tonight would get them into the Champions League on 7 points, so there's plenty of incentive for them to have a go.

Herediano bowed out of contention, finishing the Concacaf League with a paltry 4 points, guaranteeing Alianza passage to the big dance.

EDIT: And even if they managed a mind-boggling collapse tonight, Olimpia are still guaranteed CCL participation thanks to their 7 points.

Kudos to Diriangén: they understood the assignment, actually held the lead going into halftime, and went out with their heads held high, giving Olimpia's defense fits until the last.

However, they couldn't hold on to the 3 points, so their departure allows Tauro to grab the last berth out of Central America.

So all we have left to fill out are the remaining U.S. berths, which we might start doing as soon as this weekend...
