Besides being Iran's only confirmed friendly, I am quite excited (despite reservations about the travel time, venue, and artificial turf) because it will give us some insights into how both Iran and Canada look against teams outside their own region.
We will see, although the visa issue you allude to also complicates Iran's travel to Canada. Because Iran and Canada don't have diplomatic relations, Iran's team is scheduled to first fly to Turkey and spend a few days there for visas before flying all the way to Canada.
Hey, that's the price to pay when no one else wants to play with you. If it makes you feel any better, IRN is doing better at signing June friendlies, when compared to some teams in Conmebol and Concacaf.
Iran plans another friendly match in Toronto https://www.farsnews.ir/news/140102...رکاتی-تیم-ملی-در-تورنتو-خواهد-بود-انتشار-مبلغ
Well, Argentina is looking for a 3rd opponent after Italy and Israel so I think they wouldn't mind keep going east? Would love to play Iran away for example but being realistic we'll end up playing something like Qatar or UAE for money.
There have been rumors that Iran is trying to arrange a friendly with either Brazil or Argentina in Qatar, but our federation is broke (its funds are kept in blocked accounts due to US sanctions) and I think a friendly with either will require $$.
I didn't realize you read Farsi. Are you of Iranian background? As for IFF's hopes of arranging another friendly in Canada in Toronto, maybe it will be Curacao as you had speculated before. Until rather recently, I had never heard of them much less their football team. But if they are in league A in Concacaf, I assume they aren't without some merit and ability? Among teams which Iran is reportedly seeking to arrange friendlies with later (in September etc), Senegal and/or Ghana appear the most likely opponents. Argentina or Brazil might happen if the IFF receives financial support from the government,. Among other Conmebol teams, there has been rumors and speculation mentioning Uruguay, Ecuador and Peru in the recent past. I personally like to see Iran play Australia as well, but I haven't heard any plans to do so. Among AFC teams, a friendly with Qatar seems somewhat likely.
No CAF team in September as they have qualifiers. So Iran will have to play either Conmebol or another concacaf team
In order to keep track of scheduled friedlies I recommend to check the followig site. http://www.theroonba.com/football/men/fixtures.html It's the best site I know for checking future fixtures.
Not really. Ticketmaster pre-sale recently closed. Sale to the general public will open today, in less than 4 hours. https://www.ticketmaster.ca/canada-...sh-columbia-06-05-2022/event/11005CA6EECC85F0 @vancity eagle might want to keep an eye open.
The report I read must have been wrong then. The report is in Farsi (Persian} but if you use google translate it says:
Yeah, trying to hype up the match with: *special codes*, *special space*, rounded-off ticket numbers. BC place is not allocating stadium sections for *away fans*. It is just a friendly match after all.
Where is the Israel game? Argentina would not be allowed to enter Iran with a recent (6 months) Israeli passport stamp.
Do you know what is the status of ticket sales? The ticketmaster link you gave basically hangs up for me after with a flashing message saying something like "ticket quantity chosen is unavailable" even before choosing the quantity or getting the chance to really enter the page to navigate it.
Make sure that you accept cookies for that site, and that adblocker/scriptblocker is turned off. Plenty of tickets are still available, in both lower and upper decks. I suggest purchasing the "Canadian MNT 2 Match Pack", to get seats in the lower deck: https://www.ticketmaster.ca/canadian-mnt-2-match-pack/event/11005CAB38177B33?refArtist=K8vZ917GDRf Obviously, the 2-match pack costs more because it includes a ticket for Nations League match CAN vs CUW. You might want to ask in Team Melli football forum for more details.
The identity of the team Iran was trying to arrange a friendly in Toronto has been revealed: El Salvador. It seems the two sides had agreed on the match, but unfortunately there were no available stadiums not booked or willing to host the match. So in all likelihood, Iran will play just one match in Canada.
I imagine Iran will try to play someone in Qatar in June, maybe Qatar itself. But so far only the Canada match is confirmed.
How can they agree to a match when SLV is fully booked with NL matches in June? Is this the same source claiming that the CAN vs IRN match was sold out? Thousands of tickets are still available, even in the lower deck.
