Yeah i meant besides the Italy final. Is Israel the only friendly we have confirmed? Kinda pointless, imo
Senegal is the most likely opponent. The game would take place in France, but it requires FIFA approval because Brazil is already scheduled to play South Korea and Japan in Asia, and FIFA does not allow friendlies in the same international window to be played in two different continents. Mexico X Brazil in September is going to happen. San Francisco was once listed as the most likely venue, but this is pending confirmation.
will Iran play another friendly in Vancouver aswell?, they could invite Honduras or El Salvador as they are free between June7 to June 14th
CBF confirmed today there will be no third match for Brazil. According to reports the company that organizes friendlies for Brazil made some attempts but the coaching staff decided that the logistics were just not going to work and they decided to release players after the June 6 match in Japan instead of trying to play a third match. Considering the AFCON qualifying schedule this could have worked in theory and it's pretty disappointing it didn't, at least for fans. The coaching staff sounds like they're done with all this effort to get good friendlies failing due to whatever obstacles pop up every time.
There hasn't been any indication they'll schedule a friendly then, just that they would spend time in Europe training rather than traveling immediately to Qatar, but it's certainly possible.
I have read Iran wants to play a 2nd friendly but not in Vancouver (artificial turf at BC Place). The reports I have read suggest Iran wants to play Albania in Toronto, but as @Kamtedrejt has mentioned that doesn't appear feasible for Albania. Perhaps the opponent will instead be a side like Honduras or El Salvador...
That means I predict Iran vs Curacao friendly (Canada vs Curacao concacaf nations league is on June 9th)
Are Honduras/El Salvador unwilling to play in Canada for some reason? In the meantime, Iran will not be playing New Zealand in Qatar. In an interview given today, a spokesman for the IFF said that Skocic didn't find that friendly useful and the IFF is looking to find another opponent for Iran to play in Qatar.
Brazil and Senegal did already play a friendly in this cycle actually. Senegal proved their worth drawing the five time champs 1:1 somewhere in Asia. I watched it.
They chosed for Israel as a lucky charming. When Argentina won in it all in 1986 they played Israel as one of their warm-up friendlies.
Can someone make a list of the confirmed friendlies end May and June with the teams who are going to Qatar. So I can make the list complet with the already known Nations League games and AFCON qualifiers.
Yes I remember, saw it as well. Nigeria also tied them a few days later. Would have been nice to see a rematch, and it would help Senegal to play again a team of that caliber.
As a Luso Canadian I'm excited that Canada booked a friendly with Iran. I knew Canada would book a couple friendlies with nations from other confederations, but was terrified they would book it with poor to mediocre teams. Glad they are playing against stronger opposition to help give us fans a more clear vision for a team we are finally excited about.
Gotta love IFF officials gaslighting IRN fans. NZL does not have time to play IRN in June. Interconfed play-off in Qatar, after a friendly in Spain. NZL does not plan to front-load its schedule prior to a key qualification match. June schedules for HON and SLV are booked full. Curacao's visas should forbid them to stay in Canada, outside of their NL schedule. So, Curacao should be out of the question too.
Iran has not mentioned who will be the other opponent they want to play in Canada, except in the latest comments, the opponent was said to be from "that region".
Canadian visas are tough to get on a whim. IRN is stuck with playing 1 match in Canada, mainly because CAN is the only team willing to play with IRN at this juncture.
