i'd love to see nelson be the 4th option in the RW/LW slots with pepe being sold off*. there will be enough games with european play and FA cup and smith-rowe being the alternative at no 10. *even if we aren't getting but 15-20. he needs to be moved now since he's coming up on 2 years remaining. if we don't make the move now, it'll just be another year of stupid awkward questions the year after.
Pretty sure Raiola has underlings, etc., and that those agreements for payment still hold. And that's for starters before you get to what his estate would still be owed.
Well, people can try to litigate over anything, but if he had good estate and/or business attorneys, those sorts of agreements are usually difficult to successfully contest.
probably. maybe this will end those links... 🚨 Raheem Sterling will discuss future after England camp in June. New deal possible but only if central to Man City plans. If 27yo goes he expects to join 1 of Europe’s most decorated clubs - Tottenham & Arsenal not currently in frame @TheAthleticUK #MCFC https://t.co/sPyoYmlkJz— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) May 12, 2022
I don't want to sign Sterling because he is 27, plays the same role as Saka, makes 300k a week and would want a raise.
A Brazilian media outlet (globo) is claiming that we are close to a deal for 19yo RW/ST Marquinhos from Sao Paulo. This is the only video I could find on him... https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x82u175
In his 7 years at City, Sterling has averaged 0.7 goals plus assists per 90 minutes. Last season the only one in the last 5 that he fell below that number, he averaged 0.6 goals plus assists per 90 minutes. This season no one at Arsenal has matched Sterling’s down year. Arsenal could use that type of inconsistency.
He scored in one league game from January to April. It was a hat-trick, mind you, but he went scoreless in his other 10 league appearances and that period, and didn't come off the bench in 3 others. His numbers get there in the end, but how they get there is an adventure.
Well that and he is an elite talent and peak age who would never move to a second tier club from one of the best teams ever seen in the EPL
It was similar when Sane left. Another elite player who got unsettled. Arsenal can dream of players at that level. It does amuse me that anyone would think he isn't up to standards.
City typically have 3 quality wingers at all times, which is why Sane left - he wanted to be the main man so he went to Bayern. With Haaland arriving, and Foden becoming so important, it's not clear Sterling would make City's best side.
Goal scorers can be notoriously streaky. Arsenal have been strongly linked to Gabrial, who between scoring against Arsenal in the third game of the season and scoring against Liverpool on April 10 had one league goal. They have also been linked to Osimhen who from October 24 to March 6 had two league goals and DCL who scored 3 in 3 league games in October and hasn’t scored in 10 league games since. Kane had one league goal before mid December, Salah only has three league goals in the last 11 league games and two of those came against United.. There are a limited number of forwards in the top 5 leagues that don’t go more than 3 or 4 games without scoring. Arsenal probably aren’t getting any of them. Lewandowski and Benzema are too old for the project and wouldn’t come anyway. Arsenal missed on Vlahovic in January and Haaland is headed to City. Their Club presidents have said Nkunku and Schick aren’t for sale, which means it would take a massive offer to pry them away from Leipzig and Leverkusen, respectively. Maybe Arsenal could get Abraham from Roma, but it would take a big number to pry him away from Roma too. So if Arsenal are looking for a “consistent” goal scorer they probably have to shop in a non top 5 league, i.e., Nunez and Gakpo, though Nunez will also be very expensive, and you are never sure how their form will translate to the premier league.
Sure, but we're talking about reasons for Arsenal to not want Sterling. Sterling not wanting Arsenal is rational.
Exactly. I'd take Sterling, of course. He's quite good. But I don't think going after him, given our other needs, is a good allocation of resources.
Just me, but there's a difference between considering a player not up to standard vs not feeling he's the right fit for your team. Sterling is a solid player but I don't think he would have comparable impact on a team that is less talented than Citeh (allowing defenses to manage him differently) and possibly able to find wiser investment elsewhere on the pitch. So while I think Jesus would be a decent fit for the price I'm less convinced about Sterling, though I know the latter's record is just as credible. But that's just me.
Yeah Sterling is too good and expensive but he’s not the right purchase for us we need players In other areas first and foremost
That's basically what I was saying. Having casually watched him over his career (Liverpool & City), I've formed the impression he's a bit streaky, has had quite a few extended fallow periods. But I suppose stats might be used to counter that impression... Setting the bar as "This season no one at Arsenal has matched Sterling's worst year at City" seems a bit low. We've had sucky/missing "strikers" this year. And before. I'd like to raise that bar. Sticking with your stat of choice (goals+assists per 90) who in the EPL (or beyond) is currently coming in better than 0.6? And what are their numbers? This is a sincere question. I'd like to get a sense for where Sterling sits compared to others who are more elite, dare I say dependable, at goals+assists per 90?
