HOLY SHIT IS RIGHT ! Have you ever seen an ending like that? Five minutes left, it was over, RM was done, Man City was celebrating in the bench, and out of nowhere, just nowhere........ Matches like this makes me go crazy with love for this game. Well said @Kaka10725 . VJ missed a couple of clear goals showing immaturity, but let me tell you, his drive, his heart, his aggression, his speed, his energy, his dribbles, his passing and vision and his focus is undeniable. Curious to see if Tite will be starting him. VJ is now a fixed starter on the RM team. Rodrygo, jus wow. All Brazilians are playing just awesome. Can't wait until the final.
Looks like the call-up will be more than one week earlier than I estimated: https://www.cbf.com.br/selecao-bras...convocada-no-dia-11-de-maio-para-amistosos-de 10am local time on Wednesday next week, which is more than 3 weeks before the first match. I wonder if there is a particular reason the call-up is being done so early (bigger call-up? I hope so!). Reminder that the matches are: May 2 @ South Korea May 6 @ Japan May 11 vs. Argentina (in Australia)
Now that the call-up has been confirmed, some news from globo esporte: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...nvocados-e-avalia-recuperacao-de-antony.ghtml Antony is still injured and under observation. (Based on the estimates when he was first injured, I think he will be called in.) Gabriel Jesus should be back, considering his form and how the coaching staff like him. Call-up should be 26 players.
No major matches between now and the call-up. Fiorentina plays tomorrow (Arthur Cabral) and there are some Spanish and English matches Tuesday as the season comes to a close. Portuguese title race is over, and there are only 3 matches left in England. The biggest injury concern is whether Antony is ready. With the friendlies still 4 weeks away, I believe he'll be called up. Here's my guess at this call-up (3 extra players highlighted for 26): Alisson, Éderson, Wéverton; Alex Sandro, Arana, Danilo, Dani Alves; Éder Militão, Gabriel, Marquinho, Thiago Silva; Bruno Guimarães, Casemiro, Fabinho, Fred; Gérson, Lucas Paquetá, Phillipe Coutinho; Antony, Gabriel Jesus, Matheus Cunha, Neymar, Raphinha, Richarlison, Rodrygo, Vini Jr.; I would love to see Émerson/Lodi for tests, but I think they are behind the ones above and Tite doesn't really call more players than expected. (Similarly an extra defender and mid, just because, why not?) Gérson could be Veiga or a third forward, wouldn't be surprised at a number of names there. Call-up is 10am Wednesday.
I can't imagine Jorge Jesus coaching the national team. Feels like a disaster waiting to happen to me. Globo Esporte published their preview of the call-up this morning: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...de-tite-antes-da-copa-do-mundo-do-catar.ghtml Some notes for a TLDR: They seem to be betting on 9 forwards (all 3 extra spots up front). They see a small chance Veiga could be called up (probably in Coutinho's spot if 9 forwards are called) because his name has been talked about a lot by the coaching staff. They list Felipe as having a shot on defense. Other than that most of the listed players beyond the expected names are the outside shots, names that probably won't make it now or later this year unless there's an injury. So, again, don't expect any surprises, except maybe, just maybe a Veiga call-up, but even that is just a guess on their part.
Fabinho injured today. We'll have to see how bad it is. Since it's his hamstring, he's probably out of the FA Cup final, but not out long term. I expect he'll be in the call-up tomorrow unless there's news that the injury is worse. I suppose Douglas Luiz could be a replacement, or Bruno Guimarães could be used in that position and a replacement could be called up in a more advanced position (like Gérson for Fred). It's a result of Liverpool's long season and the fact that they are still in every competition. After today they have FA Cup (Sat), PL (Tue), PL (Sun), CL (Sat) to close out the season. Fabinho will definitely need the rest after that. Let's hope he doesn't aggravate the injury.
The June match with Argentina is canceled. Juninho and CBF are working on a new opponent for the June 11 friendly date. Here's the call-up: Alisson, Éderson, Wéverton; Dani Alves, Danilo, Alex Sandro, Alex Telles, Arana; Éder Militão, Gabriel, Marquinho, Thiago Silva; Bruno Guimarães, Casemiro, Danilo (Palmeiras), Fabinho, Fred, Lucas Paquetá, Phillipe Coutinho; Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Matheus Cunha, Neymar, Raphinha, Richarlison, Rodrygo, Vini Jr.; Quick notes: Danilo (Palmeiras) called up for the first time, no Veiga Antony out due to injury 3 left-backs called up, for a total of 27 players
1) Why did the game against Argentina was canceled? Tite seems extremely pissed about it. 2) In regards to the squad list: Seems like there will be a good fight among the atacantes - Antony will probably be there in the WC, so maybe Martinelli will be out if nothing super crazy happens by December. I feel like Tite should have 3 RB’s and not LB’s, considering that Dani Alves can’t play 90 minutes.
The only thing they noted is that Argentina informed Pitch. So the reason is basically that Argentina don't want to play it (at least not in June). It remains to be seen if this means Pitch will continue to try and schedule it this year or if they will postpone it, or try to penalize Argentina for breach of contract or what. Personally I don't care about Pitch getting their matches in every year but for all we know we could have Brazil x Argentina on December 31 with local players just to fulfill a contractual obligation. 100% agree. It sounds like Jesus is in, the way they are praising him right now for his recent physical form as well as form in general. With Antony back Martinelli would be out, it just remains to be seen what happens in the first months of the next season. I also would have liked to see a 3rd right-back. Dani Alves turned 39 this past week. Also, Tite just confirmed the 3 extra spots will be used for offensive/creative roles in the final call-up, so no extra full-back is likely in the WC. He also directly addressed a question about calling 4 goalkeepers. I don't know why some Brazilian journalists made up the idea that 4 goalkeepers would be called, but that was never on the table and just a waste of time that someone asked it.
Good call-up. Re: the cancellation of the match vs. Argentina, I'm fine with it in the sense we won't be playing them given the WCQ match FIFA wants re-played is set for September (date to be determined), but CBF had a major logistical effort going so this is going to cost CBF. I hope Pitch is contractually obligated to reimburse CBF.
I read nothing but UOL on this, so is it absolutely known that the cancellation took place because of AFA backing out?
No, that's just what Juninho said. You ask a good question about what happens with the Brazil/Pitch side of the contract. Brazil was preparing based on Pitch saying the match would go ahead but obviously AFA had yet to confirm, so does Pitch owe Brazil anything if planning incurred costs at this point?
Honestly , I am with Argentina on this …. Why have 2 games in the space of a few months . It’s pointless . We already have to play them in the WCQ make up game . Find another opponent .
Maybe next time CBF should try asking the opponents beforehand if they want to play and, if they do want, where and when.
CBF doesn't organize the friendly with Argentina. Seriously, between this post and the one in the replies to my post in the Argentina forum I wonder if you guys bother reading or just go on auto-pilot when a Brazilian says something.
I know that the organizer is the company but didn't they bother asking "and has the opponent confirmed this?" before announcing it through all their social media. Pitch is not FIFA after all. There were widespread news that Argentina did not want to play this since like a month ago and no one at CBF lifted a phone.
Good Lord !!! It's like they just saw your name and didn't even read your post ... Literally blinders on ... SMH
Sure, but there's still the contract. CBF deals with Pitch and AFA deals with Pitch. CBF could call AFA but then Pitch would say "yeah but they have a contract and haven't officially pulled out yet so they have to play." CBF is also under co tract so if the organizing party is saying the game is happening then it doesn't matter what anyone else is saying. Now that Pitch has confirmed, CBF can move on.
It was signed by Grondona over 10 years ago and, I think, Del Nero for Brazil. If not for COVID it would already have expired.
