Cole Bassett assist. Passing to Luis Sinisterra is always a good idea. pic.twitter.com/OlP1Y3j0NL— Daniel (@DanielSmith1022) April 24, 2022
Thanks! Hey, it‘s positive. Cole is one of those guys who always seems to be around good things. Great the coach threw him out there. I prefer guys like Cole and Brendan to start at places like this over bottom Top 5 teams. Sometimes you don‘t have a choice, need the cash, etc. Cole had choices and made a real good one IMO.
I think the thing to remember with Cole as well is he was clearly brought in with an eye towards the future.
Cole made the smart move after the pass to the back line, which drew the direct defender to cover that passing lane for Sinisterra, which enabled Luis to make the move to the right.
Astute. His run actually made two defenders focus on him, and at that critical moment the striker danced between them to get clear. Coaches will love that.
I think he will be. I‘m OK with slow and steady in a case like his TBH. He has so many real solid player intangibles. He isn‘t a flashy star type, which is why he doesn‘t get as much attention, but he is gonna be a good pro at good level. Pretty safe bet IMO. He is getting some love now in critical match positions and doing more than OK. I have pretty solid expectations for playing time next year.
Hate to be "that guy", but what is the defender here actually doing? He's not covering space, he's not closing down. The space he should occupy is where the attacker turns and attacks. If he doubles the guy with the ball he cuts off that lane; the defender on the ball can slide out to cover the pass if the attacker makes it. If he does try that dribble, the defender is actually in position to stop him in his tracks. Pretty shoddy defending.
Well, 95% of goals are scored on defensive breakdowns. Over 90 minutes it‘s gonna happen. To a tired D late it‘s definitely gonna happen. Just part and parcel of the game. That‘s why the cream rises to the crop, coaches and players, they can do it super consistently at a high level.
Two things. First it's the 96th minute after a typical Feyenoord match in which the opponent is worn down by being chased and forced to chase the ball in possession of Feyenoord. The bloke is gassed. Second he couldnot do much without the risk to foul Sinisterra in the penalty box.
Prioritizing "don't commit a penalty" over "stop this dude who already has another dude trying to stop him." Your criticism is fair, but it's simply a sub-optimal play, not much more.

Bassett would have an easy, simple tap-in around the 82nd minute but Geertruida who was sitting on a brace decided he wanted the glory of a hat trick and skied a difficult shot over the bar. The easy play was square it to Bassett for a goal. Can’t necessarily blame Geertruida for trying for the hat trick up 3-1 but man…. I wanted that goal for Cole.
Also just had a nice run and thru ball leading to a shot off the post which would have been his second assist in as many games.
Maybe Geertruida watched the vid of Cole with all the shots on the bar and the posts and thought: "nah, I'll try my luck for the hattrick"
Hard to tell yet, but it seems he's fitting in with his team mates well. I guess he shows enough progress in training to have coach Slot give him time on the pitch to learn under pressure from an opponent.
