    Qatar 2022 groups:

Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Netherlands, Senegal

Group B: England, Iran, USA, Scotland/Wales/Ukraine

Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland

Group D: France, UAE/Australia/Peru, Denmark, Tunisia

Group E: Spain, Costa Rica/New Zealand, Germany, Japan

Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia

Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon

Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea

USA to face the winner of that runoff, maybe Scotland? Hard to imagine Ukraine fielding much of a team at this point, very sadly. USA maybe defeats Iran, maybe Scotland, to advance? no way does USA beat England imo.

With two of the three national teams that I follow and root for participating in this FIFA World Cup, there should be enough games for me to watch in this tourney.

(Yes, I understand why they were banned from this World Cup, so I won't be arguing that part of it.)

While I was born and raised in (and obviously still live in) [IMG], both my parents were born and raised in, as well as met each other and got married in, [IMG].

But heritage/ancestry-wise, my father was [IMG] (though one of his grandmothers was [IMG]) while my mother was [IMG].

I hope that explains why I follow and root for the national teams that I do.

How about you? Which teams do you root for and follow? :)

As someone who was born in England but spent 90% of my life in the USA (in CA since ‘83)...I will be cheering for a USA win over England. Dream scenario would be England and USA advancing.

Sorry Italy aren’t in there, they will be missed. Historically they’ve brought flair and some exciting football to the tournament.

    Yeah no big,

Italy scored one goal in 3 games and they don't deserve to go.

Groups "E" and "H" could well be considered the Groups of Death.

In comparison we drew really well. Mexico, on the other hand, got a free pass to the next round.

The Underdogs! One favorite that comes to mind was Uruguay in the 2006(?) World Cup when they played Germany for 3rd place. I believe they ultimately lost, but, half the German team dropped to the ground, exhausted, after the final whistle blew! Hell of a game.

And I had a soft spot in my heart for Peru during the last Cup.

    GO USA!

My heritage is Lebanese, but I never really have to worry about them qualifying!

It would be cool to see an underdog emerge from Africa, or North or South America. Like @vamanoshasta I'm a softie for underdogs.

Probably longer than you think. ;)

While one of those countries ([IMG]) will have to wait another four years, the other one no longer exists as such but is now two separate countries ([IMG] and [IMG]).

I do not believe England have ever beaten the US in World Cup competition, so there's that...

Interesting story about the guy who scored the winner. Angelo Schiavio was a forward with Bologna. Luisito Monti was an Italo-Argentine who played in the 1930 World Cup Final for Argentina in a 2-4 loss to Uruguay.

After that tournament he went to Italy to play for Juventus and he switched allegiances so he could play for Italy.

In a league match between Juve and Bologna, Monti broke Angelo Schiavio’s ankle. In the locker room after the match, he was furious and told him he would get his revenge.

When the 1934 World Cup tournament rolled around Italy was host and the manager Vittorio Pozzo knowing the bad blood the two had for each other decided to pair up Schiavio and Monti as bunk mates. Neither one liked each other but they decided to make peace for the tournament.

Schiavio then said, “allies yes but friends never”!

I've only ever lived in USA so I root for USA.

My second favorite is Brazil because I like the way they play.

I watch every game that I can regardless of who's playing.

I always root for an underdog and whichever team had the best uniforms. Since the US is in, of course I'll root for them.

    I wouldn't count out Ukraine!
