With Barcelona men not achieving as they should I’m thinking people be flocking to women’s side more.

I’m reading right now that 70k tickets have been sold for the Barca-Real Madrid game!

Congrats to Barça, and also ... ... Barça's ticketing staff.

Thanks @soccersubjectively, too. Got a couple more - Patrick Brennan researched several women's clubs in the north of England in World War I and the interwar era - only scratching the surface, really. Probably dozens of other big matches are forgotten and sitting in news archives.

1917-1939: these are those clubs' reported 5-figure attendances, starting during WWI:

1917-12-01 Armstrong-Whitworth Newcastle 2 Vickers Barrow 1 Played at St James' Park, Newcastle, before 14,000 spectators

1918-12-26 Tyneside Munitionettes 3 Whitehaven Munitionettes 0 Played at St. James' Park, Newcastle, before 18,000 spectators.

1918-03-09 - Blyth Spartans 2 - Armstrong Whitworths 57 Shop Munitionettes 1 - Munition Girls' Cup semi-final played at St James' Park before 10,000 spectators

1918-03-30 Bolckow, Vaughan Ladies 0 Blyth Spartans 0 Munitionettes' Cup Final played at St James' Park; "a crowd of about 15,000 persons assembled"

1918-05-18 Bolckow, Vaughan Ladies 0 Blyth Spartans 5 Munitionettes' Cup Final (replay) played at Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough, in aid of Teesside Medical Charities; "22,000 spectators turned up to witness the showdown"
(also mentioned by Prof Esther Johnson in her article about striker Bella Reay)

1921-03-25 [Huddersfield] Atalanta 1 Bath Ladies 0 Atalanta's first competitive match, played at Leeds Road, Huddersfield, before 15,246 spectators

1921-05-04 Dick Kerr 4 [Huddersfield] Atalanta 0 Played at Hillsborough, Sheffield, before 25,000 spectators

Most surprising, at an annual game between workplace and factory women's teams, played during the English FA ban:

1936-04-10 [Darlington] Quaker Girls 3 Terry's Girls 2 Played at Hundens Lane, Darlington, before 10,000 spectators, in aid of the N.U.R. Orphans' Fund.
    - (Match information from donmouth.co.uk, Patrick Brennan)

Not to mention the rest of England – Scotland, France, Belgium and Spain also had regular women's football then, so could be hiding something, but it'd take more research. Dick, Kerr's weren't the only good or popular team, but the media are so simplistic on the history, other clubs get precious little publicity.

The new record was set today, on 30th of March 2022 and it's not just the most attended women's club match: it's the most attended women's football match in history including all National Teams's clashes, even at the World Cups.

UEFA Women's Champions' League's quarter-final between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou in Barcelona had an attendance of 91.553. The final of WWC 1999 between USA and China had 90.185.:eek::eek:

Europe WoSo rising, this should be very interesting if SA can get their act together.

Europe vs US (+Canada) with a side of two SA teams will be great to watch.

Crazy to think Barcelona will get a chance to break their own record in the semi-final. I get Braça vs Real Madrid is a classico but playing semi in CL is a huge deal and the team is flying high at the moment.

Camp Nou current capacity is 99,354! So let's hope Barça dismantling of Real Madrid will get fans to fill up the stadium for the next match.

This makes me think that I am not up to date with the biggest stadium in the world right now (or the biggest ones anyway). Are there a lot of them that exceed 100.000 capacity? :cautious:

Camp Nou is the biggest in Europe.
There are several college football stadiums in the US that go over 100k, but only 8 of them.
Finally, among traditional stadiums, there are two stadiums in Asia bigger than 100k - India's main cricket stadium and North Korea's football stadium.
There are some bigger "venues" in the world, particularly for motor sports, but IMO those are iffy to consider.

Camp nou is the biggest in Europe. But North Korea is currently the biggest with a stated capacity of 114,000. The Michigan stadium (multi sports) and Melbourne Cricket ground have 100K + capacity.

Maracanã used to be the biggest by far. 199,854 souls saw Uruguay spoil Brazil's party at 1950 WC final. 2018 WC renovation reduced its capacity to a tiny 78,838.

*Rose Bow have a capacity of 90k+

There used to be a bunch of stadiums in Europe with capacity way over 100K before the new all-seater era arrived. The Camp Nou took 120K back in the 1980s.

Don't wanna burst anyone's bubbles, but
    ...it isn't.

From the 1st post of the Barça-Real thread:

"The world record of 110,000 in Mexico is suppressed by Fifa as much as it can, because it makes Fifa look bad, as reality tends to do."

1971 may be the jurassic era of Fifa, but it isn't ancient history. Colour film existed then too.

    Mexico 0 - 3 Denmark - (Augustesen 26', 52', 62') - (World Cup final 1971)

...And Denmark's team were all from Boldklubben Femina, so it's also the highest club attendance. :) (No, nobody is claiming that)

You have to remember, gigantic stadiums were more common in the 20th century, the Azteca had much greater capacity than now, and apparently a bunch of randoms could arrange a larger women's football crowd than any Fifa affiliate ever has. Tragic, really.

@sbahnhof! o_O Why you have to be such a buzz kill! LOL :p

I was perfectly fine thinking this was a watershed moment for women club soccer; such crowd surely is making headlines around the soccer world, clubs must be taking notice and potential revenue of WoSo is clear to anyone to see. Europe is finally rising (as I being saying for the past 4 years).

Still a club game record. Also, was the 110K paying public or oficial competition?

I think what is significant along with th new format of having the quarter-finals follow a group stage along with a broad internet exposure on DAZN, ATA Football, Paramount plus, etc. all is helping to drive up attendance as well.

They have steadily been growing. This week we also saw in the other 2nd stage games crowds of 27,000 + at PSG and at Lyon where they had over 20,000.

Now we have the Semi’s so will we see it grow even more.

On the fist day when tickets were made available for the Barcelona vs Wolfsburg semi final match, 50,000 were quickly grabbed up. Could we be looking at them beating the record they set in the quarters?

    Updated! Thank you!

I've got 89 matches over 20k now, but I think whenever we hit 100 matches, I'll just keep the top 100, as I think 20k is going to become more and more common.
