    See the luck comment again, massive deflection takes it past the keeper.

    While I would agree with you.....almost every weekend we play teams who we have the same financial upper hand against and never seem to do this to them

    I agree with you but it's not at this level. They are crushing teams in the English league by the same score line. I wish they form a super league and leave the champions league for the other clubs. It's really unfair.

    Oh I agree 100%. Same shit for PSV. But if you're expecting a corrupt organization like UEFA to balance the scales, then keep waiting because it seems like money is the only thing they care about and the Arabs have shit tons of it.

    0-4 Bernardo double

    Are we really surprised? Man city is running away with the premier league, even compared to Liverpool, Chelsea etc they're on another level.

    Amorim was right when he said in Portugal its grade 1 while out here it's University level.

    Beyond the obvious difference in quality, it's also the difference in tactical knowledge.

    Just gotta regroup, we've done well to get this far and get the prize money, I just hope this doesn't go 12-1 like 2009 vs. Bayern

    Exactly. This team is toothless. Tactically inept. Players not making the right runs into space, players not making the right passes, Pote being a bum who can't trap a ball and pass it off, Inacio being overrated as f*ck, Amorim constantly playing Esgaio when he's proven time and time again that he's a terrible player who has no business even being on the bench.

    I hope they will form a super league. Eventually, this type of domination is just going to destroy the sport.

    No it won't. You've got a bunch of clueless idiots in Asia, Africa, the US, etc. that will support that garbage because they have no concept of what the sport is actually about and because their nations have no footballing identity. It's all about glory-hunting.

    Sarabia’s probably our only player who doesn’t look completely out of place on that field today. Runners up to Porro, Palhinha and Matheus.

    I think portugal will be one of the Last to abandon the fan ownership model but eventually its going to happen, at some point some investors will come in, it's inevitable.

    Look at Ajax though they're doing things right and managing to compete in Europe in recent years. Portuguese teams need to learn from that, stop signing washed players, focus on youth development, establish a specific game model from the seniors to the u10s so when graduates reach the 1st team they can play with their eyes closed.

    Also this is what happens in a championship in which the first place team has 3 or 4 draws, minutes and minutes are spent analyzing var, the referees whistling for everything and nothing. The level is awful compared to the best teams in the world

    For context

    Weekly Salaries
    KDB + John Stones = 450k (250 + 200)
    Sporting's 30 Man Squad (including Sarabia 88, Vinagre 33, TT 9 & Jovane 14) = 493k

    So take out out the 2 loanees and thats 28 players 372k.........28 players vs less than 2 players

    I remember the 1980s when a team like Widzew Łódź could make the European Cup Semi-Finals.,

    I'm sure they are Manchester City fans who miss the old days. I know it sounds crazy, but the new team have no soul.

    They are piling on, I guarantee they won't be lifting the cup in May. You will see Bernardo Silva on his knees crying like a baby. Would be nice to see him show this type of passion for Portugal

    Game over. Tbh went to watch the other game for a bit and disconnected from our game

    But we move. Collect our prize money and qualify again for the UCL. Lots to Learn from our mistakes and try to improve.

    Pretty clear Vinagre has no future if he won't feature and we prefer to play Esgaio there.

    Hopefully this also means Amorim stays and some of the rumours of him leaving die down. He's done a fantastic job with us but even he admits that he's a bit stubborn and we needed to play with a different lineup and setup, we can't play with 2 midfielders, we needed to play closer together and narrow things and we needed to be more concentrated and aggressive. But even then it's incredibly hard and we'd still lose, the difference in quality and intensity is just abysmal

    This is a big thing to remember, I was in second year Uni last time we made the R16, now I'm turning 33 (guh)

    We have made the R16 twice and played two teams that were top of their game, look at how many teams there are that didn't make it.......heck Barcelona, Sevilla, Napoli, Atalanta...........Porto All in the Europa League.

    We have a long way to go, but we're on our way to stability if we can stick around for a while.

    My biggest hope is that Amorim turns this into something that makes us hungrier back in the Portuguese competitions rather than lets it dictate our season

    Guardiola with some nice words, saying his team was incredibly efficient and praised Matheus Nunes as being already one of the best midfielders in the world. Wonder if we'll be able to hold him for next season.

    Sporting Starting XI:
    Adán;
    Coates, Gonçalo Inácio, Neto;
    Porro, Ugarte, Tabata, Matheus Reis;
    Sarabia, Slimani, Paulinho

    Guardiola complained that he had only 14 players and had to play reserves today vs. Sporting.

    Also Guardiola's starting XI:

    Ederson
    Egan-Riley, Stones, Laporte, Zinchenko
    Fernandinho, Gundogan, Bernardo
    Sterling, Foden, Jesus
