I don't know for sure, but given the historical and traditional flux of the Lira, I'd bet most non-Turkish players get paid in Euros. I just imagine that's not standard by now, but someone will have a better idea. (Nice time to buy a Fethiye area beach house, however.)
Barcelona -> Munich -> Manchester -> New York -> Istanbul. Pretty fun path through your 40s and 50s if you ask me.

Word out of Turkey is Galatasaray has agreed to a small buyout of DeAndre Yedlin's contract, which would pave the way for a move to #MLSInter Miami currently holds top allocation order spot & Miami's Chris Henderson signed Yedlin to his 1st pro deal in Seattle. With Gala as a sinking ship and Turkey in dire financial straits, once (if) the money hits his account, he should take the next water taxi out of there.
Back to the bench for their match against top of the table Trabzonspor. Yedeklerimiz: İsmail, Yedlin, van Aanholt, Babel, Moruţan, Luyindama, Barış Alper, Bartuğ, Arda, Feghouli #GSvTS— Galatasaray SK (@GalatasaraySK) January 23, 2022 Highlights from midweek:
Yedlin subbed on in the 88th minute, straight up sub for Boey shortly after they conceded an equalizer for 1-1.
Just an incredibly bad turonver in the buildout by Antalyah - blind pass right to Visca, who blasts it home in the 90th minute into the upper corner. Great comeback win for Trabzonspor in the title race, while Galatasaray continues to be having a nightmare.
Last gasp chance for Galatasaray - Yedlin overlapping run, receives the pass, crosses to Babel at the back post, who heads it down. Huge diving save by Cakir to preserve the loss for Galatasaray. At least Yedlin made a nice play in his only real chance of the match.
Now a free agent: 🇺🇸 Can confirm reports in Turkey that DeAndre Yedlin is now a free agent after having his contract with Galatasaray terminated. Interest from England and MLS so far.— Roger Gonzalez (@RGonzalezCBS) January 24, 2022 🇺🇸 DeAndre Yedlin has already been in contact with one English team, and it is Hull City, sources tell CBS Sports. Yedlin spoke with sporting director Tan Kesler of Hull City this morning. Lots of MLS teams also interested.— Roger Gonzalez (@RGonzalezCBS) January 24, 2022
Interesting I'm assuming this has more to do with the economic situation in Turney than soccer? It seemed like he had been playing pretty well.
Termination of the contract seems a dramatic move for a guy who didn't seem to be either overpaid or dramatically underperforming or a locker room disruptor? It must have been a mutual decision it seems to me. Either way, a nice situation for a guy with DeAndre's experience and talent. If he is not injured, be should be a good signing for the right club. I wonder what impact though this might have on his national team playing. Without a long term contract, I would be hesitant to risk a major injury playing in an NT game.
Turkeys currency is collapsing due to inflation so if Yedlin is paid in dollars/euros/pounds which is likely he has gotten a lot more expensive recently.
He's the second choice right back, they're closer to the relegation zone than Europe, and the team is likely headed for a major shakeup where he's not likely to be the long-term solution even though he's not that old. If he doesn't love or is tired of Turkiye, wants to be the #1 RB for a club, or doesn't see the need to be in Turkey if he's not on a championship contender, it could make sense for him to look back to England or MLS. For Galatasaray, their budget may be screwed from a lack of European play next year, Boey is back as the starter, and maybe they can try to fill Yedlin's minutes with someone cheaper without losing a game-breaking amount of quality. It's not as if he's been dominant there.
Not a great climate in Europe right now with multiple countries experiencing massive inflation, and the Russians on the doorstep of Ukraine, which is likely to send fuel prices in mid-Europe through the roof if they actually move in. If I'm DY, I might consider it a good time to move trans-Atlantic.
Profile: https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-...-about-mls-return-after-seven-years-in-europe But Yedlin didn't leave his apartment on this night, not even to take his baby daughter for a stroll. His team, Galatasaray, was coming off a discouraging loss to Sivasspor. It hardly mattered that Yedlin performed well; until the club won again, it wouldn't be prudent for him to be seen in public.
This article really buries the lede about where Yedlin is going next: “When Yedlin's contract was terminated on Sunday so he could sign a four-year deal with MLS's Inter Miami -- a move that will be finalized by the league as early as Friday -- the 22-time Super Lig champions stood only six points clear of relegation.” Unless everyone knew that already?
Yes, he has. Then again, since every player is paid in dollars or Euros, everyone has got more expensive too so that's not the reason. He didn't have much time left on his contract IIRC, and he'd have had very little resale value anyway. He joined from an EPL side, which means he's got high wages for Turkey and he's not a starter either. Better to get his wages off the payroll and bring someone cheaper in As for why Yedlin agreed, he probably has a couple of options on the boil and, even if none of them pan out, he'll be one of the more attractive free agents out there. There will be a few clubs who couldn't get a new RB/RWB over the line before the window closes tonight. They may be haggling now, but won't be in the morning.
Miami's not a done deal yet. Because he's a free agent now, the transfer windows don't really apply. Yedlin still likely to move to Miami but also considering Israel.Yedlin, who is a Jewish-American, is confronting what many of us confront at the end of our careers… Miami or Tel Aviv? https://t.co/URGu5xbmJ2— Twigs (@TLsTDs) February 1, 2022
Tel Aviv would be dope. A very beautiful albeit expensive city. Doubt he gets anywhere near his $2million from Gala there, nor would it go nearly as far compared to Istanbul. But knowing the type of guy he is, it would be very intriguing for him.
He was not bad with Gala, from what I saw, but he was not particularly good. Considering the rules in Turkey, to sign another foreign player they had to get rid of one of the foreigners they already had, and Yedlin seemed a good option (easily replaceable 2nd RB). As for their economy collapsing, I'd take the reports from the Western media with a grain of salt.
