For their model, qualifying consistently to CL is brilliant. You see their performance against the other Seria A sides with so much more depth it's amazing. He is a huge part of that so I could see the lure of wanting to retire there. But 5-6m a year to triple his salary a few years and how could you blame him. If he goes, it's because they go with silly money to Atalanta and he can't turn away the shot at the money but I don't think it's anywhere near as serious a project and not a positive move career wise - but he is already at a real high vs. what any of us would have expected. All that said, Newcastle is trying to be cute and came with a loan deal and conditional option if they stay up so they aren't gambling either. You can see why Atalanta told them to pound sand.
I read the price their asking for isn't really far off of what was offered. If they are serious about him im pretty sure they'll get him.
Key is what was guaranteed. They offered five million for a loan and only if they stay up another twenty five would trigger. For Atalanta, if they let Duvan go they need to replace him asap as they would only have two strikers left on roster plus an aging Ilicic. They can't replace him on five million for the short window even if they recoup him end of semester. They want > 40M now because they need to go shopping immediately and they don't have the deep pockets some of their rivals do.
All they gotta do is get one of these guys, shouldn't be a problem seems like Haaland and Mbappe are ready to move. Couldn't blame Duvan for taking the money, but its a downgrade from a sporting project overall, but sure he'd be in a tougher league. Atalanta would probably do business in the summer, but they aren't gonna let him go this window unless Duvan throws a fit and/or they get heaps of cash with a replacement already lined up.
the sad part of Newcastle of not getting relegated would most likely mean Watford gets relegated. I don't think its going to be easy for Atalanta to replace Duvan if he leaves. They have a veteran team. By the time a new striker gets up to speed, the rest of the team will need to be upgraded. And sadly, Muriel isn't durable enough to be their main striker. But money talks. If the offer is good enough, they might just want to go for it.
1. Zapata before atalanta never scored more than 11 goals in a season..... 2. Muriel have been the top scorer by season over zspata sinve his arrival....dont see how inst durabñe enough but duvan does 3. As they lose papu gomez a year ago and get achievements...this year without duvan they can.....is a matter if they do a good scouting job.....also the gasperini system beneficiated forwards than before were mediocre like muriel and duvan.
Atalanta is a feeder club that wants to make Europe every year. They are just making Champions because inter, Milan , Roma, Napoli and Lazio have been such shit. They have 0 chance or ambition to win the Italian league even without Zapata they are making at least the euro league. With him. Juve will leap frog them still by the end of the season. to me Atalanta doesn’t have anything to lose. as for Zapata if they do get demoted he will go to another team the following. Season. No way they are going to pay his wages in the 2nd divison. If he and his agent are smart they’ll put a demotion close in his contract.
This dont make sense....atalanta have qualified to the last 3 champions with inter lazio and milan.... Have been one of the most scoring teams of europe.....nothing to do with level of other teand. Ps: juve isnt italian champion and this year wont be neither....and atalanta have qualified with them always as well with inter....
Conversely: 1. He's scored over 15 the past three seasons in league alone and had 9 already halfway thru this season. So he is proven in their system - despite the perception it's a system driven effect Atalanta hasnt rushed to flip him or Muriel the past two seasons when they could have cashed in. 2. Gasperini has consistently used him as a starter ahead of Muriel (despite Muriel's efficiency) - so he is the preferred choice of his gaffer (irrespective of any of our decisions). 3. Atalanta already had three guys on the books that could play for Papu if he left. They would have to sign someone in next ten days and believe Gasperini can integrate fast enough to make it work. However, this is a business decision for Atalanta and him. The reality is that financially a move would have made a lot of sense for Duvan AND Atalanta last summer as he has earned a big pay day and the team should extract value from the development of the player - and if they were going to do so they should have done so when they had time to effectively restore the side and depth. They didn't - and remember, Duvan wanted a move last summer exactly because he knew the attractiveness to Atalanta of a move would reduce if he didn't get it. If Newcastle comes in now with an upfront deal (rather than a loan) and Atalanta have someone lined up to come in, it could totally happen. But it's Jan 20 and given the need to trigger a signing coming the other way I don't think it makes sense for Atalanta to play this to the last minute.
my point is that he never had this level before atalanta and gasperini....to think that they need a player with his same numbers is arrogant....when even zapata never had before atalants. Colombia not are the heore and only good players of their team..... atalanta juste scored 6 goals to udinese without duvan irrepleaceable zapata....
Their initial bid didn't even try to take Duvan permanently because of the wage risk. I think that's the key question - if they come in and meet the asking price upfront, I'd agree with Pep, it probably happens. It's a gamble for Duvan on the level of team he ends up with if things go pear shaped for Newcastle, and for Atalanta on having a sub transfer prepared to restore talent - but given Atalanta's finances a major fee for 30 year old striker would be tough to pass up if they have a plan.
If they believed his goals were easily replaceable they would have moved him this past summer when they could have had a broader range of options to replace him with. They didn't. That Udinese game is a serious aberration, Udinese was without many players due to a Covid outbreak. Going into the game it was understood they would win going away. Anyway - if Newcastle is willing to gamble this kind of money on a Jan transfer (vs. a loan) and Atalanta have a replacement plan, I agree it will happen. I guess the difference in opinion here is over how trivial those assumptions are.
udinese played with their resular starters like deolofeu, nahuel molina, nahuel perez, beto, wallace, succes, rodrigo.... not so calamity....yeah they have missing players....as atalanta was missing some key players too atalanta in the last two years have made these type of matches...

That makes sense, it's easy arbitrage for them given the wage rate in Premier League - any move there would have increased his wages. At 30 years old, I couldn't blame Duvan, he's earned that money with his performance and he was frustrated last summer when they didnt move him or raise his wages.

can care less how he develops in England. I want him to develop for Colombia. 30 years old and we are still waiting for him and Muriel to take Falcao place. 10 years of waiting on the Colombian fat Ronaldo. fact Rueda trust a Colombian league striker over both these guys is alarming
Not so true, Zapata is the one that have recived more chances by rueda..still waiting for goal or assist
Gerard Moreno won't be sold for less then 80m and Dzeko is the main striker on the Serie A leader and isn't moving so ya just about as probable they get those 2 as Haaland and Mbappe. Everybody is missing the point, only looking at goals sure Muriel scores more but Muriel can't do the things that Duvan does holding up the ball and playing others in, there is a very thin window of players who can play central score goals, hold the ball and create for others and those players are highly coveted for a reason. Gasperini finds diamonds in the rough and helps to get the best out of them, when they let Papu go he had a ready made player in Malinovski who didn't come out of thin air, he was a baller before he went to Atalanta and was waiting to step up which he has. There isn't many players with the ability to drift wide, hold up play, win balls in the air, score goals, create goals and go 90 minutes 2-3 times in a week and have that consistency and understand the system over multiple years. When you find those players you keep them or sell them for a lot of money because everyone is desperate for that profile aside from most Colombian soccer fans apparently. Players have failed at Atalanta all the time, they don't just show up and the water makes them play at the level they do, case in point was Mojica, he's a limited player that doesn't have the range of skills and intelligence to play in that system and he was moved on super quickly because he didn't have the talent, Duvan, Muriel, Ilicic and Papu are really talented players that created and allowed this team to get where it is, there are only so many players that can produce the numbers they have and people are strongly disrespecting the level of those players over the last 4-5 years.
duvan have a lot of virtues, but neither isnt the most consistent and his impact in attack is not what elite teams want in their main striker......you can say that goals isnt the only meausre.....but is an important factor that classify the elite forwards, good forwrds, and averages........he is strong and dangerous......but dont have the resources of vlahovic, the definition of immobile, the sprintof lukaku, muriel dribbiling..... Yeah you can love him and rated him....but even gasperini have bench him some important matches
