    From the Troyes fans forum
It's still a really good performance, it must be said! Even if I too am skeptical about Irles (in fact I hate honeyed people like him), it must be said that:
    1) Using Palmer-Brown, who had only played a little for LB [the previous coach], is a real good pick. . . .

    The '+' . . .
    - Palmer Brown who confirms to be a top player (incredible that he has not played more)

Palmer Brown, who we haven't seen since the start of the season, is finally discovering himself,

I don't understand why Palmer-Brown wasn't playing under Battles. Impressive.

Palmer-Brown is really the find of Irles, another very good game from him.

the [new] way of using the players and using them at all (Palmer, Domingues, Camara - who casually was not far from scoring) changes things for us.
Leet me stress that this is a representative selection. I simply couldn't find a single negative remark anywhere. The worst people had to say about his performance was variations on "he's a useful option".

coaches ignore some of their better players all the time.

    it really happens quite often.

funny how a new manager can so drastically change a player's fortunes.

Man, it would be great if this kid could put together a string of fine starting performances. He has paid his dues quietly over so many years. Rooting hard for him.

Me too. I've been sceptical of him down the years but, when it comes to a player's development, I'm always happy to be proved wrong

I still remember his first appearance (or was it a start?) for KC in MLS…he was 16….he got red carded early in game and booted. Haha. Good times!

Didn’t watch the games but he does look good in the snippets/highlights portion. Rooting for him as well!

with the recently passed fifa regualtions against loan armies..hopefully epb and miazga will be the last examples of derailed careers at the hands of disinterested mega clubs in the usmnt player pool.

I really think all this player needs is a chance

Two penalties for Angers in the first half, conceded by the right back and the other centerback.

Guess EPB is going to be our representative for the relegation battle in Ligue 1.

This is 3 starts in a row and if he starts the next 2 games, we can take it that he's a first-choice for the new guy. The fan forums are again very complimentary of EPB (as well as the GK).though deeply pessimistic about their attack.

If he is going to be the Yanks Abroad representative in the Ligue 1 relegation battle, it looks like he's coming out of it with a lot of credit. With his contract expiring in June, that's all that matters

As it was at Wien, at least according to @mschofield, the Troyes fanbase is rapidly developing a serious man-crush on EPB. e.g.
Palmer 7: very good game, clean no errors no faults really incomprehensible that he was not playing under Battles.

The best central defense is Rami - Palmer. Palmer, out of the closet, is a surprise and what to say, he is very good....

another big match from Palmer Brown.

Fortunately we can count on Chavalerin and especially Palmer. They are the only ones that give hope for staying up

The Palmer Brown case is symptomatic of a break between the coach and the FO. The player is good but since he is stamped City group he was blacklisted [until now]..
What is really interesting is that while the fans are by no means sold on the new coach and his methods and still harbour a lot of affection for the previous guy, even his biggest admirers are becoming harshly critical of his failure to play EPB.

Allegedly, neither the closeness of Troyes' tie-up with City nor the players that the FO recruited from did not sit well with him at all. One player (Issa Kaboré) was an ever-present before Christmas but the other 3 were benched permanently or not even making the squad. Of those, Sandler has already gone back to Manchester and Patrick Roberts has moved to Sunderland on an option deal, leaving EPB as the only survivor. Meanwhile, Kaboré has been dropped from the squad entirely and may be headed back to Manchester as well.

I don't see why people don't see the immense talent with this guy. It's probably been subdued a bit but it's still quite apparent.

Always been a big fan of his. Looked the part every time I’ve seen him. Hope Berhalter decides to give him a chance, along with CCV.

When the French talk about "out of the closet," this is the first thing that comes to mind:

Well, if you spend 2 full seasons at a mid-table side (Wien) in a backwater league (Austrian BL) your talent may not be hard to notice but it's going to be too easy to contextualise away.

That's why this half-season is so important. He has a chance to nail down a starting slot in Ligue 1, one of Europe's best development leagues, ahead of his contract expring in June. If he keeps playing as he is now, he will get offers in Ligue 1 or better and if Troyes stay up he should look carefully at what they offer: if the coach stays and if the buyout clause is not too high, sign up and wait for the bids to come while staying in the shop window.

That was my thought as well, but while I can, sort of, read French and follow a line of argument, I have zero understanding of idioms, sayings, or even tertiary meanings of individual words. All I can do is use Google Translate and then tidy things up with a dictionary so I have no idea whether I should have posted it as "Palmer, 'out of the closet,' [i.e. similar to a homosexual coming out] is a surprise and what to say, he is very good....", or as "Palmer, out of the [storage] closet, is a surprise and what to say, he is very good....".

Given the origins of the word - older French for a small enclosed room with a door on it - it could mean that EPB was a skeleton in the closet or he'd been closeted away to work on his deficiencies, etc.

In any case, since he's playing pretty well and the coach is obviously a fan of his, it's a) all good, b) time I got back to work and c) time anyone reading my BS on BS got back to work too! :p

Similar meanings, though. In both cases, revealing one's true self..
It's odd though. I admit, many decades since I lived in France, but as a kid, we didn't have closets. Much like in Germany, where closets are a bit of a rarity. Here the equivalent would be out of the wardrobe, which brings up a different sort of expectations, talking lions and such.
