Fairly open attacking game for Lille so far... Weah has gotten on the ball dribbling at speed towards goal but has squandered a couple of opportunities... one with a poor touch and another with a poor weight of pass... he also got on the end of a cross but scuffed it trying to take it first time with his left... He generally is looking good... very quick but the final ball is missing. Weah playing a LM/LW kind of hybrid role it appears. '24 minute.
Monaco dominating the early part of the second half. Lille probably going to the bench soon, and Weah may be one of the guys to take off, just to change things up and get fresher.
Lille get a little bit of a counter, Weah making the run up the left wing. David’s pass is behind Weah, but he collects and tries an Antonio-distance shot that someone deflects on the way through, slowing it down to make it a trivial keeper play that may not technically count as a save.
Biases on for Yazici, a defensive sub. May mean this is a 4-5-1 now. Yazici had just gotten a yellow tracking back.
Weak yellow card on Weah, just jumping for a loose ball. Defender flailed, probably earning the card.
Weah shot off a cross deflected out for a corner. Argument for handball, not called, probably the right decision.
Awesome run sets up Yilmaz for a look at a game winner, but he shoots at the keeper. He made have had a better pass to Weah available, open inside the box. Last play of the game is a Lille corner with djalo’s header saved on the line by the keeper.
Sounds like a great developmental exercise. Rest up over the weekend, then Champions League on Tuesday.
I thought so as well at first. But watching slow-mo he throws a nasty dark-arts elbow. Didn’t note he had that in him. (73 min for those watching replay)
Into injury time still tied... Lille with a bit of frantic stupid defending but finally get the ball into attacking half.
Yep. He may not start (probably SHOULD not at this point to be safe for him and for the team overall), but he will make a great sub option in every game.
Anchors a Weah, my boys, anchors a Weah Farewell to foreign shores, Tim sails on Saturday Through his last Ligue 1 game, drink to his health Until he plays for us, here's wishing Tim a happy voyage home
He's already played 35 minutes and will likely play against his weekend. He should be ready to start the second qualifier if not the first.
Unless I missed something, he played about 25 minutes today, including stoppage time, after sitting out 6 weeks with a hamstring injury. Flying him across to the US and starting him in freezing cold weather (read: bad for hamstrings) because he got 50 or 60 minutes in 2 games after that 6-week shelving due to injury is a risky and (in my opinion) bad idea. He needs to be treated with a bit more care and used strategically in these games. Pulisic, Aaronson and Morris (who seemed to be fine except for stamina in mid-December) can handle the heavy lifting in this window.
