musta played well then. the williams bros have been ballin' out lately for Bilbao, so a clean sheet is great
can we just put the "hes not good enough to play in a top 4 league" narrative to bed already? last couple of years in this thread a lot of posters have said championship/belgium/netherlands is his max level.....which, for me, has been total BS....I've always thought he was good enough to play well in a top 4 league and hes done nothing but that this year in spain. https://www.fotmob.com/match/3629284/matchfacts/deportivo-alaves-vs-athletic-club 7th highest rated player out of 27 that saw the field in this match https://www.sofascore.com/tournament/football/spain/laliga/8 here only 5 players had a higher rating than he did https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1...ga-2021-2022-Deportivo-Alaves-Athletic-Bilbao roughly similar here as well He's good enough, people....just admit it!!!!!!
I’ve always thought Miazga was good enough to play in a top 5 league. But for whatever reason he’s on a roller coaster. He’ll have these 5-6 match stretches where it’s clear as day he belongs in a Top 5 league. Then Miazga makes a bone headed mistake or has a dog shit match and he’s on the bench. It’s been a vicious cycle with every club and every manager. For me, that’s not by coincidence. That doesn’t scream being singled out as an American. It’s a result of something, that he’s on a short leash and/or finds himself in and out the doghouse. I just can’t cannot put a finger on what that “something” is.
I don't think it's ever been that he *can't* play in a top 4-5 league. He's shown more than once he can. It's more that he has yet to show he's valuable enough to a top-4-5 league team, considering the alternatives, that they have to keep him (or are willing to pay the money to keep him.) And like MVann, I'm not 100% sure why that is. At Vitesse he beat out some very decent, experienced competition and they clearly preferred him on the field most of the time. Be great if he can do that in the La Liga. A good number of minutes this season a Alaves would be helpful to set him up well for the inevitable transfer away from Chelsea, whenever it comes.
Right, and to your point, if memory serves he has immigrant parents? And spoke Polish at home? After the 5 or 6 years he's had living in every country in Europe he pretty a-typical for your average Joe Six-Pack American
Miazga looked fairly poor in the matches and highlights of late last season's Belgian action. He has looked much better in the matches I've seen this season. His raw numbers and performance metrics have also been good.
are you saying he was poor in belgium? i dont think that was what was reported. didnt watch the highlights of him in belgium...its interesting if he had a late-season swoon. he was an almost every game starter for vincent kompany who gave him a lot of compliments throughout the season. im assuming the reason they gave - that hes too expensive for them - is the reason he didnt stay there. maybe he has a pattern of late season slumps for some reason...maybe its when he finds out hes going to yet another team soon and not staying where hes at.
He’s bounced around a ton of teams in a ton of leagues. If he was really good enough to consistently start for a decent team in a top 5 league, SOMEBODY would’ve stepped up and bought him for 8-12 million dollars. It’s not just Alaves or Anderlecht or Reading. The other teams in those leagues are surely scouting their opponents’ players as potential acquisitions as well. and I don’t mean that to be harsh on Miazga. He’s capable of playing well, but consistency has been his issue, both for club and country. at this moment, Chris Richards is a solid starter for a mid-level Bundesliga team. I realize they’re 3rd in the table now, but the season isn’t over, and the Bundesliga is crowded with a bunch of decent teams this year. The point is that Richards is what a solid mid-level starter should look like. And he’s a lot better than Miazga. A lot of guys, including guys like Ream and Sargent can play for relegation battlers in top 5 leagues, but that doesn’t mean they’re any good at that level.
I don't profess to know much of anything, but I see from transfermarkt that Alavés' top transfer fee paid is $4.4M. They've got quite a few transfers in the last 5 years over $2M, but somewhere between $2M and $3M seems to be what they're willing to pay. Now, if they'd be willing to pay that for Miazga, if they see him as a backup or would project him as a starter, I don't have the slightest idea. Chelsea paid $5M for him, and his current market value (also per transfermarkt) is $2.75M. Seems well within the range of possibility. I don't think Chelsea will ever get all their money back, anyway.
I think he has shown enough everywhere, except maybe France, that he is a good enough player. Just not good enough to force a transfer fee out of anyone. A player coaches would like to have on their squad, but not worth a fee. Maybe Matt and EPB will start together somewhere one day when their clubs stop paying them.
I can see Miazga being willing to come back to MLS if the likes of Atlanta, LAFC or Seattle make him a DP or a TA player but I cannot imagine a scenario where he agrees to play in the USL for USL money. So no, him and EPB are not going to start for the same club side. Ever.

I hope he gets in off the bench to square up to Miazga.
Home awaiting a CoVid test result so I get to watch a YA play! (at least the first half before Juventus begin.
Matt is just not consistent. Matt just isn’t Top 5 league reliable/regular material. I’m not even counting the poor pass. I have watched enough of him through the years, and he just can’t/hasn’t elevated past a certain level.
